We were walking down 'Hall Road' along the small pavement. Hand in hand.
"These Jordans shor' look good on ya, Riri."
"Why, dey yours, Abraham?"
"No. Dey yours now."
"Ya'shor'?" He gave me a comforting smile.
"Dey don' fit me anyway." I hugged his arm.
We came across a reasonably big store. Candy, chips or milk. It's there. Abraham led me inside.
"Al-Amin store is the best store in town, Riri."
"Is it?" I gulped, looking at a big pack of spicy Cheetos.
"I could tell you is hungry from a mile away. Das why I brin' ya here." The shopkeeper gave both of us a dirty look from the corner of his eyes. He was a white man. A tag on his redshirt read 'Al-Amin'. The owner.
"The man, he keepin' on lookin'- " I hardly finished my sentence when I got cut off.
"Grab everythin' ya need, Riri." He shoved me to the snacks aisle a little. My hands aimed for the hot Cheetos. As soon as I did, the shopkeeper mumbled something loud.
"Huh?"
"He thinks we're teevs. Teevs robbin' his shop." My brother approached me and whispered.
"How do ya know?" I whispered back.
"I learn' Greek." I was amazed.
"Den tell him we ain' gone cause no trouble." He walked towards the shopkeeper, but Al-Amin ran to lock the doors. Then dialled a number and hurried away to talk.
"Wha's goin' on? Why he gone?" He sighed.
"No idea. But I know we in a big, big mess, Riri."
