Trial Day
Malaya
Today was the day of the trial and everyone was in the court room. I felt like I was more nervous than anything.
"Okay we have the United States vs Cameron Price, Kamiya Price, Anthony Price, Mikah Price and Anthony Price." The judge said
"Mr. Tim Young?" The judge asked
"Yes your honor." Tim said
"And Mr. Evans?" The judge said
"Yes your honor." Evans said
"You may begin." The judge said
"Your honor we have reasons to believe that this family has been running a drug ring for years now." Evans said
"Okay. Mr. Evans bring in your first witness."The judge said
"I would like to call Yolonda Parks to the stand." Evans said
I small middle aged woman walked in the court room and sat in the witness stand. I leaned over to Cameron and he leaned back to me.
"Who is that?" I whispered
"I don't know." He said
"Mrs. Parks on July 23 of 2019 can you tell us what you witnessed?" Evans asked
"Me and my 2 daughter were walking home from the store and we heard someone getting beat up. It sounded like they were really getting hurt so I told my girls to wait on the sidewalk while I went to check it out. When I looked around the corner I saw that man beating up some guy." She said
"Can you point out who you're referring to?" Evans asked
"That man." She said pointing to Cameron
"Anything else you witnessed?" Evans asked
"Well I didn't see it with my own eyes but when I was walking away I heard 3 gun shots." She said
"And was anyone else present at the time?" Evans asked
"No just him and the guy." She said
"No further questions." Evans said
He walked back to his table and looked over and us and winked.
"Mr. Smith would you like to cross examine?" The judge asked Tim.
"Yes your honor." Tim said as he got up and walked over to the witness.
"Proceed." The judge said
"Mrs. Parks on the day in question your said you saw my client assaulting another person correct?" Tim asked
"Yes." She said
"You also said you went to check it out because you were concerned that someone was getting hurt?" Tim asked
"Yes." She said
"Right, so if you were so concerned why didn't you contact the police?" He asked
"I didn't think it was necessary at the time." She said
"You didn't think it was necessary to call the police but you thought it was necessary to leave your 2 daughters on the street at 11pm to check out someone getting beat up?" He asked
"I um..."
"After you heard not 1 not 2 but 3 shots you still decided to not contact the police?" He asked
"I know I should have but i was just in shock." She said
"Oh I completely understand that. But let me ask you one more thing how can you be 2 places at once?" He asked
"Excuse me?" She said
"You see I did a little research of my own. I saw that on July 23 of 2019 your daughters post that they were in Europe. So how were they in Europe and walked down the street with you at 11pm?" Tim asked
"Those we're old photos they just reposted." She said
"Is there a reason they're now deleted?" He asked
"Your honor relevance?" Evans said
"Ill allow it." The judge said
"Well I'm not sure." Parks said
"You honor I would like the show the jury some evidence while Mrs. Parks is on the stand." Tim said
"Go ahead." The judge said
Tim looked over at the screen and pressed a button on the remote. A video of the beach popped up and then me and Cameron appeared on the camera. I realized it was when we went to Cancun in July of 2019.
"Oh we definitely bout to go home." Anthony whispered to me
"Now if we can all read the date in this top corner." Tim pointed to the date.
"July 24th of 2019." The judge read
"Your honor as you can see there is no way my client could have committed this crime if he was in a different country." Tim said
"Your honor who knows when these pictures were actually taken?" Evans stood up
"I thought you might say that." Tim said while walking back to his table. He picked up 2 pictures and walked back to the judge with them.
"These are the pictures my client took on their vacation. The dates are stamped on the back. One for the 23rd which is when this crime supposedly happened and the 24th." Tim said
"Mrs. Parks are you telling the truth?" The judge asked her
The witness just kept looking at Evans who had a worried look on his face.
"I...um maybe I didn't see him." She said
"Excuse me?" The judge looked shocked
"I would like to remind the witness that lying under oath in a federal case is illegal and that if found guilty the witness can be sentenced up to 5 years in federal prison?" Tim said
"Is that true?" Mrs. Parks asked Evans
"Your honor can we have a word in your chambers?" Evans said
"Is what he saying true?!" Parks got a little louder and stood up
"Your honor!" Evans said
"HE MADE ME SAY IT! IVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THESE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE!" Parks said
"Mrs Parks Sit down!" The judge said
"My chambers now."
Tim and Evans walked with the judge through a door.
"Was this apart of the plan?" I whispered to Cameron
"No." He said
After about 15 minutes the all came back. Tim had a satisfied look on his face.
"Evans." The judge said
"I... I will um. We would like to drop all charges against all of them." He said
"That's the best time you've done today. Charges dropped. You all are free to go." The judge said before banging the gavel.
"What the fuck?" Mikah said
"Ain't that bout a bitch." Cameron said
"You all will be taken back to be processed out. Good luck." The judge said
I looked over at my kids and saw that they were happy. I gave Malaya a look and she just nodded her head.
"You've corrupted my child." I said to Mr. Price
"She didn't tell me about this." He whispered
We were escorted back to the bus and were on our way to freedom.
Malaya
"Malaya what the fuck?" Lori said as we got into the car.
"How did you know he would say that?" Keisha turned and looked back at me
"I have to keep it to myself so nobody else gets in trouble." I said
"Malaya what did you do?" Malaysia asked
"I got our family out of prison." I said
"We did all that hard work. I've held a gun to people heads just for you to do that?" Lori said
"Lori what if those people flipped on us? What if they got into the jury room and somebody started talking about being threatened?" I said
"Then they would have known we were serious." She said
"Doesn't matter now." I looked out the window and saw that we were arriving at the jail.
We all got out of the car and waited for them to be released. I saw Anthony walk out first then my dad and then the rest followed. I looked at my moms face hoping she would be happy but looking at her I knew she was pissed.
"Ma can we just celebrate that y'all are free?" I said before she could start
"Malaya come here." She said grabbing my arm and pulled me away from everyone.
"What did you do?" She whispered
"I got y'all out of a prison sentence." I said
"Malaya I swear to god if you broke into a federal prosecutor's office I'm going to break your neck." She said
"I didn't. Malaysia calling you." I said
"CAMERON!" She yelled
My dad walked over and I mentally rolled my eyes.
"I know what you think and me and pops talked about it. Let's just go home and we'll talk about it another day." He said
"You're not worried that our daughter might-"
"I am but I wanna go home and take a shower first." He said
"We gone talk about this later." My mom said
We all go back in the cars and drove home. We were celebrating everyones freedom and my mom eventually forgot about what I did or she just didn't bring it up anymore. I didn't care though. I was just happy my family was home.
The End of this book and series. I enjoyed writing this but it had ran its course.
