"Hey." Queenie exhales as soon as the FaceTime connects and Lando's face appears on her phone screen.
Lando send her an easy-going grin as he pulls his backpack's straps over his shoulders. "Hi, Queenie."
He grabs a few things from his car, the motion being shaken and blurry on Queenie's screen as he struggles to balance a box in one hand and his phone in the other. Queenie squints as she tries to work out what she's seeing.
"What'cha doing?" She asks with a slight chuckle.
Lando raises his phone slightly so that Queenie can see his car in the background as he locks it and pockets his keys. "I'm on my way into the MTC."
"You're working?" Queenie questions, her tone is surprised but not at the fact that Lando works outside of race weekends but instead at the thought of why Lando had decided to FaceTime her on his way into work. To be honest, she's confused why he's even FaceTiming her at all in general.
Lando squints at his phone screen playfully. "Should I be taking offence to the amount of shock I just heard in your voice when you said that?"
Queenie lets out a loud laugh before clamping her mouth shut once she notices everyone sharing the staff room with her turn to look in her direction. She mumbles quick apologies and digs into her bag for her AirPods.
"Oh, definitely," She teases, once she finally has her earphones in her ears and connected to her phone. "Are you feeling ready for this weekend?"
This weekend is the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Hungaroring track isn't one of Queenie's personal favourites but she still enjoys watching it each year.
"I think so," Lando nods, finally stepping into the MTC and being thankful that the building has automatic doors at its entrance. "We've not been doing too bad lately."
"You've been amazing!" Queenie compliments, resting her phone against her lunch box while she reaches to unscrew the cap on her bottle of Coke. "Didn't I read something the other day about some guy called Lando Norris holding the record for the most consecutive point finishes for a McLaren Formula 1 driver?"
"Fifteen races, baby!" Lando quips and Queenie has to force herself not to choke on her drink at the use of the word 'baby'.
"Fifteen races?" Queenie repeats, a teasing smile making its way onto her glossed lips. Lando takes this moment to memorise the way the dimples on her cheeks appear when she smiles wide enough. "You may as well just go back home now and then just show up in Hungary on Sunday. No practice or quali needed."
Lando chuckles as he steps into the elevator, pressing the button for the first floor. "Sounds like a... unique strategy."
"But a strategy no less." Queenie grins. She puts her drink back on the table in front of her and grabs her phone, pulling it closer to her face.
"How's work going?" Lando asks, stepping out of the elevator and making his way across the infamous balcony-type corridor towards the meeting room he was due to be in five minutes ago.
Queenie pulls a face at that and Lando laughs. "It's OK," The twenty-one-year-old shrugs. "I just have a load of admin work to do today so the time's going by really slow."
Lando cringes at the thought of how complex and boring Queenie's job must be. "I bet."
"Wait there," Queenie says. "Smile for me."
Lando follows her instruction and gives her a quick tight-lipped smile, rolling his eyes once he sees her screen flash a white reflection against her face. "Did you just screenshot that?"
"Who's a clever boy?" Queenie coo's jokingly.
"Piss off," Lando grunts but his smile lets Queenie know he's amused by her teasing. "Listen, I have to go because I'm already late to this meeting but I'll text you later when I'm out."
"Sounds good," Queenie agrees. "Have fun in your meeting, try suggesting my strategy."
"I'll do that," Lando chuckles. "Bye, Queenie."
"See you later, Lando Norris."
