"...And with one twist, he took my hand and swallowed it whole. And I saw the look on his face: I was delicious. He must have passed the word because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg." You and Hiccup had made it a while ago, luckily no one found it suspicious that you two arrived late.
Once you showed up you realized there was only one more seat. Hiccup instructed that you sit down, and you did. The boy sat down on the ground beside you, he seemed to be half-heartedly listening to the conversation.
Fishlegs spoke up, "Isn't it weird to think that your hand was inside a dragon? Like if your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from the inside by... crushing his heart, or something." Everyone looked at him confused.
"I swear, I'm so angry right now! I'll avenge your beautiful hand and your beautiful foot. I'll chop off the legs of every dragon I fight. With my face!" Snotlout growled, talking specifically to Gobber.
Gobber shook his head, "Un-unh. It's the wings and the tails you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. A downed dragon is a dead dragon." You felt a tap on your leg and glanced down, Hiccup gestured to the stairs.
"Go to the forge." He whispered before getting up and sneaking down the stairs. You let out a sigh.
Gobber spoke up again, "Alright. I'm off to bed. You should be, too. Tomorrow we get to the big boys. Slowly but surely making our way up to the Monstrous Nightmare. But who'll win the honor of killing it?"
Everyone started arguing over who would kill it, but Astrid getting up caught your eye. She made her way over to the stairs and looked down them before turning to you.
"Where is he going?" She asked.
You shrugged, "I think the forge."
Astrid nodded, luckily the answer wasn't suspicious he was going to the forge, "Oh ok, um... Be careful around him (Y/N), he's been acting weird."
"Thank you, Astrid, but it's okay." You said, standing up carefully, "I've got everything under control." You spun around, making your way over to the stairs before letting out a silent groan, these stairs were gonna take forever.
You slowly walked down the stairs making sure that you didn't put pressure on your broken leg. You were so happy that tonight there was a full moon, or else you wouldn't be able to see any of the steps.
You felt relief as you made it to a flat wooden surface, that was until you looked down and saw another flight of stairs. You let out a groan, continuing down the stairs, silently cursing Hiccup under your breath.
After making your way down you finally took a breath and began walking towards the forge, you wondered what was so important that he should skip dinner with the trainees.
You opened the door of the small wooden shack, finding Hiccup sitting at his desk crouched over his journal. You stepped over to him, looking over his shoulder. He was scribbling another tail flap on the dragon.
"How are you gonna make that happen?" You asked, startling Hiccup.
"Gods." He breathed, "You scared me." He paused before remembering that you asked him a question, "Oh, well... I'm gonna make it!" You let out a sigh, sitting down in the chair next to his desk.
You leaned your elbows against the desk, "Wake me up when you are done... I am so gonna get yelled at by my mom." You mumbled the last part under your breath, apparently not quiet enough.
"I- I don't have to... I can just take you home if you want?" Hiccup said. You looked up at the boy, seeing his soft but concerned expression.
You waved it off, "No. No, it's fine. We can stay, just don't be too long."
"Okay!" Hiccup agreed before sketching down some blueprints. You sat in silence, watching the boy as he worked. His determination was admirable, if even half of the Vikings on the island had his determination then maybe they would have already found the next. Hiccup moved around a lot, he was constantly grabbing materials and looking at sketches. Hiccup grabbed one of the sketches and brought it over to the anvil. He put a large piece of metal in the oven and waited for a bit.
After a couple of minutes, he pulled it back out with some tongs and began hammering it down. You laid your head down on the table, watching as the boy worked. Something about being here made you feel safe, but you couldn't place what it was. Your eyes drooped and you let sleep overcome you.

"And done!" You heard someone exclaim, waking you up. Your eyes shot open and you looked over to see Hiccup holding what looked like a tail fin of the Night Fury. The boy looked at you confused.
You stood up at quickly as you could from your seat before wobbling and falling back into the chair, "I needed to be home last night! My mom is gonna kill me!" You slumped down in the chair before letting out a sigh, "Well, maybe if I change the wrap before going home she would be less mad."
"Sorry..." Hiccup started, "I didn't mean to keep you out that late."
You waved him off, pulling a roll of leather strips and cloth from your pocket, you kept it on you so you could change the wrap. You leaned down before wincing, a sharp pain came from your leg.
Hiccup kneeled in front of you, "Let me help!" He said.
"No." You growled, "I don't need your help." You said, struggling to reach your leg. The boy grabbed your hands, stopping you from reaching down anymore.
"It's the least I can do." He said before taking the leather and cloth from your hand. He unwrapped the current wrap carefully. He looked at your injured leg before beginning to wrap the cloth around, his fingertips lightly brushing against your skin. You glanced down at his focused face, a slight blush on your face before brushing it off.
You let out a sigh, "I don't need your help Hiccup." You crossed your arms.
"Yeah, I know." He said, wrapping the leather around the cloth to keep it in place, "But I feel bad for keeping you out all night so this is my way to make it up to you..." He paused before looking up at you, "Can I walk you home? Maybe if your mom sees you with someone else she would be a little less worried."
You thought about it for a second, thinking about the possibilities of what could happen, and how she could react, "Yeah." You let out a sigh, "That would be nice- I mean, she would probably be less angry." Hiccup nodded before turning and wrapping up the fake tail flap he just made. He then shoved it under the desk and turned towards you, brushing off his hands on his shirt.
"Alright, time to endure your mom's wrath." He said, jokingly. You chuckled slightly and grabbed onto your crutch, before hobbling out the door with Hiccup on your tail. The two of you slowly made your way over to your house.
As soon as you raised your hand to knock on the door, it swung open revealing your mom standing in the doorway looking worried. She grabbed your shoulders and shook you back and forth lightly.
"Where were you! I was so worried about you!" She sent a skeptical look at Hiccup.
You steadied yourself on your crutch, "Sorry, I lost track of time and fell asleep while Hiccup was making something in the forge." You noticed a flash of nervousness flash across the boy's face before he composed himself, "Yeah, the academy was low on some weapons." Your mother looked slightly relieved.
Her hand was placed on your shoulder, "It's okay. I was just worried for you. I'm glad to hear that you had someone with you." She then turned to Hiccup and pointed a finger in his face, "Keep an eye on my daughter, if anything happened to her... I don't know what I'd do." She then let out another sigh, "Come in for breakfast you two. I know you have a long day ahead of you." You and Hiccup shared a look before following her inside.
