Mina
A mixture of a strong scent of alcohol and cigarettes offended my nostrils as soon as I get inside of Chaeyoung's car. I examined the whole vehicle and saw numbers of empty liquor bottles along with some empty packs of cigarettes
My face automatically formed a disgusted look and began rummaging my bag for something to cover my nose until I found a hanky. This is better than nothing else
I rolled my eyes as soon as Chaeyoung nested on the driver's seat with a smirk on her face not until her phone rang. Her smirk was replaced by a smile, a weak and sad one. For a minute, I forgot that her stinky car annoyed me a moment ago. Her smile suddenly distracted me even when I know it's not meant for me
The call wasn't that long but it's enough for me to examine her and her current state
She's paler and I think, she's even skinnier than the usual. Her lips were not even red nor pinkish, it's actually a bit lighter like it's almost colorless. Her dull eyes were surrounded by dark circles with an obvious reason— sleeplessness, or maybe something more, stress perhaps
I don't know what happened to her. I don't even know when did she turned out like this. Seeing her in this state broke my heart. I once witnessed her turned out like this and it's when I cheated on her with Eunha before but this is even worse
She really looked like a mess, a big mess just like her stinky car does
After the phone call, her mood suddenly changed. She became timid and she looks like she's about to cry any moment. I ignored her and looked outside the window not until she spoke and notice that I'm covering my nose with a hanky
"I'm sorry 'bout the mess. I'm just too busy to even clean my car and—"
"Let's just go and get this all done"
I cut her off not because I hate her but because I wanted to get this all done. My wall that I decided to create earlier was slowly melting after seeing her almost crying.
"S-Sure"
As soon as she began driving, I secretly continued examining her again. She's too focused driving on the road not even realizing that I am now obviously staring at her
"Chaeyoung?"
Her eyes were still deeply fixed on the road. I called for her name numbers of time but she didn't even budge a little so I decided to tap her arm and call her name again, much louder this time
"Chaeyoung!"
The car suddenly halted out of the blue which almost knocked my head on the glove compartment of her car. She just looked at me blankly which even surprised me even more. I almost knocked myself but she's obviously oblivious about it and it angers me
"Are you out of your mind, Son Chaeyoung?! Why would you even stopped the car in that drastic way all of a sudden? What if there's a car behind us? Can you even imagine what the hell might happen?!"
"Huh?"
"Oh my God! You're unbelievable Chaeyoung. Do you want to kill us?! Fuck you! if you wanted to die, then kill yourself alone and don't involve me in your shits!"
I was so surprised by the sudden outburst of my emotions. I don't know why I acted that way and just frustratedly yell at her. I closed my eyes and expected her to yell back at me until I realized that she's not going to do anything
I opened my eyes and there I saw Chaeyoung with tears on her face
"I-I'm sorry, M-Mina.. I am really sorry.."
Her sudden apology doesn't only surprised me, it broke me. It broke my heart. I always wanted her to apologize to me sincerely but now that she suddenly did, I kind of regret wishing for it
"Chaeyoung—"
"I'm sorry, Mina. I'm really sorry about everything I've done"
I'm confused.
She was all sarcastic and rude earlier but now, she suddenly became fragile and broken. Her tears and sincere words were going straight to my heart which melted my wall that I decided to build
I wanted to hug her but there's something that stops me—perhaps, it's my pride
"Chaeyoung, let's go. We're literally in the middle of the road. We need to—"
"We need to end everything now between us, Mina.. "
My hear once again, shattered to bits. Does she hate me that much for her to cry so hard while saying those things? Damn, She's slowly annoying me
"Chaeyoung, atleast park the car somewhere safe. Please.."
"Right, I-I'm sorry"
Chaeyoung drive a bit until we saw a park nearby. It's a children's park but the place wasn't crowded yet. I am about to unbuckled my seatbelt when Chaeyoung refrained me grom doing so
"Let's just talk here, Mina"
"Fine, but can you please open down the window? I'm slowly getting dizzy inhaling this stinky smell of your car to be honest"
"Oh, I'm sorry.."
Silence surrounded the two of us. No one dared to talk and break the silence between us for few minutes. Our deep sighs were the only thing that can be heard inside the car until rain began pouring down
I watched as the rain slowly falls on the ground while thinking those happy days I've spent with the person sitting beside me that it made me think so many questions about us
"Chaeyoung, what happened to us? When did we even start falling apart? When did things between us even started to go wrong?"
"Please, Mina don't make it even harder for us. Just sign this divorce paper and set each others free—"
Chaeyoung handed me a folder which probably contained the divorce papers
"What if I don't want to sign that, Chaeyoung? What will you do? Will you force me?"
"Mina, please. We both need this—"
"No, I don't.. Chaeyoung, all I need is you. All I need is you to be with me because I love you. I love you more than our misunderstandings, more than our countless fights and struggles. I love you more than anything, Chaeyoung"
"But Mina, we can't do this anymore. I can't do this anymore.."
"But why—"
"Because I don't love you anymore, Mina!"
Her words stunned me.
It's as if the world suddenly stopped. I can't feel anything but pain. Pain that once again, Chaeyoung has given unto me
"C-chaeyoung, you're lying right? I mean, you're just saying that because you're mad at me, right? Chaeyoung—"
"Mina,please..let's stop this already. Let me be free and let me live my life once again. Please, sign this papers and let us both grow. Let us be happy again—"
"Happy? Do you really think signing that piece of shit would make me happy? Chaeyoung, eversince I vowed infront of you and everyone else, I can't already see myself living my life without you by my side. I had already promised myself to live with you every single day of my life. In sickness and in health.. through ups and downs.. but that's not just a vow or a promise. Chaeyoung, it's my dream not only for me but for us.."
"Mina, I'm sorry but I can't see the rest of my life living with you anymore.. I'm so sorry.."
"You're so unfair, Chaeyoung. How can you even say that. Can you even remember your vows, Chaeyoung? You told me you're not going to vow or promise because You told me you're ready. You're ready to live your life without me but what is this? Chaeyoung, what is this? Why are you telling me now that you can't see yourself living the rest of your life with me anymore? Why, Chaeyoung?"
"Mina—"
"Chaeyoung, I tried my best to understand you even you're actions were slowly killing me. I let you cheat on me thinking that maybe you're just doing that to take a revenge. I let it all slide. I accepted all your lies, all your painful words and cold treatments because I am waiting. I am waiting for you to see that no matter how many times you'll hurt me, I'll still choose you. I'll still choose you over your mistakes, over our arguments and over anything else because I love you. I love you so much, Chaeyoung.."
"Mina, please. Stop hurting yourself even more and sign this. It'll be over after this, I promise.."
"No, Chaeyoung—"
"Mina, can you just stop being so selfish and sign these papers? Please, set me free—"
"I am not tge selfish one here, Chaeyoung. I love you so much, so much that it kills me. It kills me hearing that the person I love wants to walk away and leave me. It kills me most especially when you told me you don't love me anymore. Chaeyoung, i love you so much and you know that,right? But am I not enough? Tell me, Chaeyoung.. Am I really not enough?"
"I'm sorry, Mina—"
I closed my eyes and heave a deep sigh. I remembered Jihyo unnie's words which somehow made me think clearer but I don't want to loose her completely
"I love you so damn much, Chaeyoung. So much that I can even let you go now that you're asking me to. Chaeyoung, I can set you free and I will but I'm sorry, I can't sign that papers. I can't and I won't. Being tied with you even just on that piece of paper was the only thing that's left for me so I'm begging you, please..let me atleast have that. Let me still be your wife even just on a piece of paper.."
"Mina—"
"Please, Chaeyoung. I want to be your wife even just on this piece of paper so please let me, let me atleast be your wife until the rest of my life even without you by my side.."
"But—"
"Chaeyoung, please.. I won't ask you for anything else other than that. I'll set you free just like what you wanted but please let me still be your wife for the rest of my life"
"Fine, Mina. If that's really what you want. I won't force this matter to you anymore in exchage of my freedom. Mina, everything between us ends here. We are now two different person with a same past.. Goodbye, Mina"
God, Is this really the end of us? Is this really our last goodbye?
"G-goodbye, Chaeyoung. I hope and wish for your happiness"
"Goodbye, Mina and I hope not to see you again.."
