‘ OK girls let me see your costumes’ Abby yelled
Nia, Page , Brooke and I step out of the dressing room and headed to Abby. All the moms started talking about how good we looked on them.
‘Maddie. Come here’ Abby called
I approached as fast as I could and stand in fron of here.
‘Now listen to me, when you get out is you face that wins. Everybody here have flawless technique but nobody else have the Maddie’s face ‘I noded and went my way to my mom to finish my makeup.
When we were all done we went backstage to wait for our time to perform. Half of the cameras followed us and the other followed the moms and Abby.
I started running my number over and over again at one corner while Ben filmed me. All of the sudden we heard someone yelling from the other side of the stage. Inmediately the cameras dismissed and focuse on the yelling. It was some crazy mom from another studio who was ‘instructing’ her daughter. I was trying to look at that show when someone whispered in my ear.
‘Look who’s coming’ I turned to face Brooke smiling at me and behind her was Gino.
I stared at him for a second before my name was mentioned by the moderator. He then said something I didn’t heard. While walking to the stage I turned to face him one last time before my dance and I could read in his lips ´Good Luck’.
With that, I started my solo and I felt like time rushed. All of the sudden I was doing the final pose. I went out of the stage and there they were looking at me, Brooke, Gino and the camera men. I instantly hugged Brooke waiting for the camera men to dismiss. When they were gone I finally could stand next to Gino
‘You did amazing’ He said without taking a look at the stage.
‘Thanks’ I replaid without facing at him.
Next is number 19, Gino. They announced. I looked at him and wish him good look.
He did very good. All his turns were clean and the choreography was entertaining. I knew he could do better than with what Cathy gave him.
Our category was over so there was a break of 15 minutes before the next one.
We all run to our dressing rooms to prepare for the group dance.
Kelly and Christi were arguing like never before. There were yelling at each other like if they have never being friends. All the moms were there. Even Ben and the production crew were trying to calm them down. Even Miss Abby joined the fight which left Gia with all of us in the dressing.
‘ Ok girls lets run the dance one last time’ The music was played and we did the choreography as ordered.
We then sit there waiting to be called by the moderator. Paige and Nia were together talking about their duo. Kendall, Chloe and Kenzie were listening to some music. I was getting done with my make up to join them but Brooke sit next to me and started fixing my hair.
‘So???? How is it going?’ She asked immediately.
‘Great I guess. I need new eyeliner’ I said talking about my makeup.
‘C’mon! you know what I´m talking about’ At that point I had to throw her a “shut up” face cause she was practically yelling it.
‘Nothing. Nothing happened’ I walk up trying to avoid the conversation but she pull me.
‘YOU LIKE HIM!’ She said with the typical Brooke’s excited face.
‘What? NO’
‘You do! You are nervous. Your voice is thinner and you are opening your eyes like this’ She tried to imitate me.
‘You look like a weirdo doing that. Stop it’ I said trying not to laugh
‘First admit it’
I looked at myself in the mirror and then turned to face her without saying a word.
‘I…’ I couldn’t say another word cause Gia entered the room.
‘Time to go girls’ we all exit the room and walked backstage. The moms were already at the audience.
Dance attack Miami went first. They did pretty good, the dance was about the sea, or the galaxy? I don’t know but they have blue and black sparkly costume. Gino looked handsome on it.
Our dance looked great. We had to; I mean we were dressed with real money. Some bills fell onstage but not big deal.
At the ceremony awards they announced Gino as second runner up. He went to receive his award and stand at the line. I won overall which ment I was one person away from him at the line. I wanted to tell him a lot of things. A ¨hi¨or ¨congratulations¨, anything but the cameras where all in front. I couldn’t risk myself.
His group dance also won 3rd place while we won 1st so again we were kinda close. I could see Brooke making a bunch of faces to me.
The ceremony was over and we were all going to our respective dressing rooms when I heard my name from behind.
I turned and saw Gino asking me to come over. I took a brief look around in case any camera was there and approached.
‘Hi’ that was all I had to say
‘Congratulation on your win. You looked like a million dollar baby haha’ I could feel the blood running through my cheecks.
Don’t blush Maddie! Don’t blush.
I avoid his eyes and tried to think of something to say.
‘Well that was Ironic’ Really? Why did I just say that?
‘Uhm, you looked great too’ I continued trying to hide the fact that I was already a tomato. ‘I liked that last turn you did’.
‘Oh so you were looking’ I didn’t know how to respond to that. I could say ¨ OF COURSE I WAS LOOKING¨ I would sound creepy and stalky. So I just smiled.
‘Ehm. I wanted to give you something last week but I don’t know…I guess I forgot’ I hanged me a red envelope.
‘What is it? ´ I said while opening it. I didn’t have to wait for an answer. That heart shaped card inside spoke by itself.
‘Well, since this week was 14th … uhm my sister helped me choose it.’ I couldn’t take my eyes off the card.
What was that feeling inside my stomach? I wanted to puke but I didn’t want to get away from him. I wanted to hag him, I wanted to laugh, I wanted to cry. WHATS WRONG WITH ME?
‘It´s beautiful! Thank you.’
‘You liked it?’ He looked relief.
‘Yes, A lot!’ I felt the need to turn away and run to the dressing room. I felt vulnerable.
I got closer to him and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Then I did the most mature thing a 10 years old could do. I run away.
I entered the ALDC room and all the eyes stared at me and my red envelop.
‘Maddie, where were you?’ Miss Abby asked.
‘Bathroom’ I answered.
‘Whats that?’ All the girls asked pointing to the envelope.
‘It’s a card a…fan gave me’
‘What I said about fan mails and presents?’ Miss Abby asked waiting for me to give her the envelope.
‘No Miss Abby, please. It’s from a close friend’ I begged
‘Ok girls. Finish grabbing your thing. I’ll be in the bus’
We went to celebrate our win with ice creams. Then got to the hotel and went into our separate rooms.
Lights were off but I couldn’t sleep. I kept re reading Gino’s valentine’s card. “ Happy valentine’s to the most talented and beautiful girl in the world” Be mine?

I took my phone and texted the 5 words I would never thought my fingers would be typing.
I think… I like him.
