His gruff father rips the door open, he wipes his mouth, "Viv, what brings you here?" He looks shocked, I can smell the toxic alcohol in his breath. It reaches out like hands and pinches my pores.
"Just seeing if Ian's around, Beth and I want to do something, we might bring Ky along," I explain and step backward to avoid is aura of distasteful smells.
"Ian's not around," he quickly says, and begins to shut the door.
Beth jams a toe in the doorway, "Do you know when he'll be back?"
"Don't know, probably not soon," He casually says, "That bastard, 'fore he left, took my damn money. If you find him, tell him he owes me lots!" He shoves his hand into his pocket, I've never liked Ian's dad.
Beth tugs at my sleeve, "Viv, let's go," she whispers and drops a stair down their porch.
"No," I whisper to Beth, I turn to his dad, "Did you hit Ian, again?"
He turns red, "Get the fuck off my porch, never come back! Ian is never coming back!" He swings his arm, he hits Beth, birds fly away from their trees.
I pull Beth into the safety of her Chevy and dab a napkin at her dripping lips.
