"Hi EJ!", I yelled down to him from my perch. I was high up inside the oak tree that was held in my backyard.
"How the hell did you even get up there?!", he shouted, moving his mask away from his face so I could hear him better.
"I climbed up here, of course.", I stared at him, unphased from the height I was sitting at. It's a good thing that my parents just went to go pick my little brother up from school, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes to do.
"Can you even get down?"
"I don't think so...I'd probably fall if I tried."
"Hold on I'm gonna get you down."
"Okay!"
EJ's POV
I steadily climbed the oak tree, being carful of the thinner and dead branches that are likely to break under my weight. I looked up to see (Y/n) staring down at me with a pleasant and heartwarming smile plastered on her face. She's so kind and caring, it's amazing to see people that actually care and don't freak out about me.
I finally reached the branch she was sitting on and sat down beside her. I let out a sigh of exhaustion and looked down to see that we were about 40 or 50 feet in the air.
"How did you manage to climb this high?"
"I was watching a praying mantis and I followed it up here. This is da fren.", she softly stated, holding out her hand that had a small, brown mantis on it.
She carefully sat it down in the tree and we watched as it crawled away. It was so peaceful and calm sitting with her. It's almost as if she has more than one side to her. One side is crazy and energetic as well as one that's calm and collected. It's nice to be around her.
"Soooo... How are we gonna get down?", she asked unexpectedly.
"Oh yeah. I almost forgot about that. Here, just hold onto me, okay?", I said, holding my hand out to her.
She grabbed onto to my hand and I quickly yet carefully pulled her to me, holding her so I could carry her down. I put my arms around her waist to have a better grip in order to make sure I didn't drop her. She's surprisingly really soft and warm, yet she's somewhat tough and muscular. It's a bit strange, but it also seems right for her.
She wrapped her arms around me in return as I began to climb down the tall oak. When we finally reached the ground, we both let out a sigh of relief. She looked up at me with a stunning smile spread across her gentle features. I could feel a bit of heat rise to my face.
"Thank you, EJ. I'm glad you were here to help me down! I definitely would've fell and I have a feeling that wouldn't be fun."
"It's no problem, I'm just glad you're okay. Please don't climb that high up a tree though, alright?", I questioned while I grabbed my mask and put it back on to hide the blush on my cheeks.
"Alright! I'll see you later EJ!", she said as I began to walk away, back to the mansion.
"Bye, (Y/n)!", I called back, a slight smile growing on my face.
I'll always cherish the time I have with her, even if it's short.
