I started school today and I must say, I'm already ready to drop out!! This might just be a new record 😍😍

But fr I want summer back, my sleep schedule is so fucked up and I don't have the energy to care (although I did have a nice 3 hour nap after dinner lmao

Previously...

"Alright, George. Sleep well, and I'll come get you at eight." Dream watched as George went across the hall to his room, offering up a shy wave before closing the door, leaving Dream still in the hallway.

George sighed, immediately collapsing on the bed. He was already wearing comfortable clothes, so he just closed his eyes and allowed sleep to overtake him.

{Dream}

3rd Person P.O.V.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Dream's alarm rang out, signalling to the blond that it was time to wake up. Yawning, Dream sat up, blinking sleepily, before swiping away the alarm.

There was a moment where confusion lay thick and heavy in the air, before realization set in. His first race was today! He needed to get ready. Dream hopped in the shower, doing a quick rinse and shaving everything. He didn't really need to do much else, except make sure he had everything for his big day.

So Dream patted himself dry, put on his bathing suit, grabbed his cap and goggles, then draped a dry towel over his shoulder. That would be enough, everything else was already at the swimming center.

Dream walked out of his room and across the hallway, knocking at George's door. There was nearly a minute of him just standing there awkwardly before George finally opened the door.

"Good morning George!" Dream greeted, smiling. The brunette nodded, yawning.

"Mhm. Gimme one sec." George closed the door, leaving Dream to wait in the hallway, but he didn't really mind. The boy had clearly just woken up. When he came to the door, George's hair was all ruffled and his voice was scratchy and maybe a bit lower than it would normally be.

Dream didn't want to admit it, but it was kinda hot.

He didn't have long to think about it, because George came back a few minutes later with a mini duffle bag and smoothed back hair. It was still a little wild, but Dream thought it was cute.

"Are we going to go or are you just gonna keep staring?" George deadpanned, looking mildly amused. Dream blushed, quickly turning away to try and hide it from George.

"Yeah, sorry, let's go. I'll drive." They walked out to the parking lot, George waiting for Dream before getting in the car.

"Thanks for this. I can't drive myself to any of the events, so this is nice," George remarked quietly. Dream glanced over at the gymnast, tilting his head.

"I should be the one thanking you, since you're coming to my race." George let out a chuckle, shaking his head.

"And you're coming to my second qualifiers. I think that's pretty even."

"Alright, fine. But just know, I'm happy to drive you anywhere you need to go. As long as I'm not swimming, just ask and I'll gladly drive," Dream offered.

"Simp," George giggled. Dream put a hand over his heart in mock offense, scoffing playfully.

"My dear Georgie, how could you say such a thing!" George rolled his eyes, gently pushing Dream back.

"Eyes on the road, idiot. You can't drive me places if we're dead."

"Feisty," Dream murmured, smiling at the playfulness of their interaction. The bond between them felt like years, rather than just a few days. It was nice.

Eventually, they arrived at the aquatics center, and Dream was all excitement and jitters. He bounced around on his heels, playing with the hem of his towel.

"Hey, relax. It'll be fine, I'm sure you'll do great." George grabbed onto Dream's arm, helping to ground the blond.

"Mhm!" Dream led George inside, reluctantly directing him to the stands before going his own way down to the pool.

There was a little bit of downtime before the race, which Dream spent either pacing back and forth or sitting and letting his leg bounce anxiously. When it was finally time for the race, he was still a bundle of nerves, but this time, with more adrenaline.

Dream took his place in lane 5, stepping up to the block. He balanced one foot on the back platform and hooked his other foot over the front edge.

This was it.

"Men's 400 meter freestyle, final. Take your mark..." There was a flash and a loud beep, and they were off. Dream kept his head steady, focusing on what he did best.

He came into the wall fast, flipping on his seventh lap. He couldn't really tell where anyone else was, so he was either ahead or everyone was so close he couldn't look far enough to the side to see. Either way, now was the time to take action, the last lap. It went fast, but Dream was faster... well, faster than some of the other athletes, anyway.

He came into the wall, looking up to see times and place.

Lane 5: 4:20:69, 4th place

He grinned, barely acknowledging the screaming and cheering coming from the stands. Sure, he didn't medal, but Dream was still elated over his time. And fourth place! Among all these top-notch athletes!

"Dream!" The blond looked over at the stands, seeing George grinning and waving wildly at him. Dream happily returned the gesture, waving back at the excited brunette.

After Dream had gotten cleaned up and dressed, he met up with George outside the building.

"Dream! That was amazing!" He exclaimed, waving his arms around excitedly. "You never told me you were good!" Dream chuckled, rolling his eyes.

"George, it's the Olympics."

"Yeah, yeah, but everyone is so fast!" George's eyes were wide as he spoke quickly. "How do you even do that!?" Dream shrugged, smiling.

"Practice, Georgie, practice."

"Right... right, no, I know that, but..." He shook his head, still in awe. "I don't usually watch swimming, it just seems like maybe..."

"It's cooler than you thought?" Dream finished for him, getting a nod in response. "Yeah. Speaking of, are you ready to go to qualifiers? We should probably go soon."

"Oh, yeah, I'm ready," George assured. Dream smiled, leading him back out to his car.

"Nervous?" George turns to look at him so fast, it's surprising he doesn't get whiplash.

"What? Do I seem nervous?" The brunette wonders, frowning.

"Well, I mean, it's kind of a big deal, I was just asking," Dream defended. "But it doesn't matter, you're gonna be great, I just know it." George smiled, climbing back into the passenger seat.

"Thanks, Dream," he murmured, staring out the window as the blond drove them to the gymnastics center, which luckily wasn't too far.

"Good luck!" Dream called, watching George walk into the athlete seating. The swimmer found himself a nice seat in the stands, with a nice view of the arena.

The next two or so hours were spent watching the gymnasts, and cheering especially loud whenever George had one of his events. Every once in a while, George would look up at Dream, smiling happily.

At the end of the qualifiers, George had- once again- come out as one of the top few competitors. He qualified in his three remaining events- uneven bars, vault, and floor- with a giddy smile on his face and stolen glances up at the stands.

They met up in the hallway after, and Dream started walking to the door when he felt a hand wrap around his arm.

"Wait." Dream stopped, turning to look at George questioningly.

"What? Did you forget something?"

"No, but... I was wondering... my friend Niki, I told you about her, she has her events up next... would you like to stay and watch them with me?" George asked, pausing before continuing with a little ramble. "You don't have to if you don't want to, I just thought it might be fun and-"

"George." Dream was smiling. "If you want to stay, let's stay! I won't leave if you want me here." George giggled, rolling his eyes playfully.

"A simple 'sure' would suffice, idiot." Dream gasped in mock offense, shaking his head.

"Wow, I'm hurt!" Dream turned up his nose dramatically, making George laugh harder.

"Calm down DiCaprio, let's just go get seats!" George dragged Dream by the arm, loosening his grip so his hand would slip closer to Dream's, until they were holding hands. Both of them were blushing just slightly, but George was too focused on finding good seats together to look at Dream.

"Here, this is good, let's sit," he decided, plopping down in a seat. Dream followed suit, sitting next to George. They were still holding hands, fingers intertwined. Neither brought attention to it, pretending to ignore the fact that they were holding hands with each other.

"Welcome to women's gymnastics qualifiers!"
