ALINA
"Roara?" I gasped in surprise, staring at the girl in front of me.
Steve stopped in his tracks beside me. "Bucky?"
"Alina?!" Roara yelled. She was stood in the doorway, an arm out with flames licking up her wrist, the other tightly around someone who was helping to keep her upright.
"Steve?" The man who was half carrying her asked.
"How are you-"
"How did you-"
"Why are you-"
"WHAT?!" Roara's voice rose above all our questions. "WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE?"
Steve and I looked at each other. "They sent us a video. Of you." I replied.
"We were able to locate you by tracking one of the men in the video, the man who kept electrifying you. Nat and Clint turned up at his home and... well you know how terrifying they can be. He told us everything he knew." Steve explained, taking the other side of Roara's shoulders.
"I can heal you." I told Roara, leading the way, "but it'll take a bit of time. We need to find somewhere safe to do it." Together we walked down the hallway, but Roara was definitely slowing us down.
"Wait." Bucky said from behind me. We stopped. Roara was panting, sweat pouring off her forehead. "I need my arm. If I have it I can carry her and shoot. Steve needs both hands for his shield."
"Shit." I muttered. I pressed my earpiece. "Any word on that stupid arm?"
"Nope." Sam replied.
"Not here." Came Thor's voice.
"Wish I knew." Clint came through. "Nat can't see it either."
"Goddamn it. Loki come in."
"Loki's here?" Roara asked, unable to keep the excitement out of her voice.
I turned to face her. "Yeah. He is so mad. Never seen someone that crazy and I once spilt one of Tony's really expensive whiskeys."
"Where is he?" Roara asked. "I've got to find him. He needs to know something."
"I'm sure we'll-" Gun shots came down the hallway. I blasted two beams of light and then pulled Roara's pain and shot it at one of the men down the hall. He collapsed beside his partners. I looked back at Roara who was sighing in relief.
"Do that again." She told me.
"I've got to find someone who I can pass it into. If I hold it for too long it gets painful and it can spill out to anyone." I explained. "Come on." We were slightly faster now, with Roara's pain slightly lifted.
"Alina!" Steve shouted, jumping in front of me, shield covering us as bullets hit it. I spun round and pulled more of Roara's pain shooting it into two armed oncoming guards, one of whom shrieked with pain and passed out as soon as the beam hit him.
"Bucky let go. I think I can walk now." Roara said, limping alone down the corridor.
"That girl is crazy." Steve shook his head.
I saw Bucky smirk. "She sure is."
"Where are we?" Roara called to us as she turned a corner.
I ran to catch up with her. "Not too far from the construction site. We're on the coast though. Basically on a cliff."
"Great." She said, blasting open a door in front of her with a ball of fire. "Who else is here?"
"The whole team."
"Oh is spidey boy here? He was sweet." She elbowed a man in the throat before he could call out to more guards.
"He is." Steve said from behind us. He'd given Bucky a handgun, and had his shield buckled into his left arm.
"Someone radio and tell him I said hi." She stormed down the corridor. "Now where the hell is Loki?"
"Right here." We all looked to our left. Down the end of the corridor stood Loki, a knife in one hand, blood splattering his green and black leathers.
The look that passed between him and Roara was electric. And then she was running to him, her left leg almost being dragged by her right before she was swept up into his arms. He lifted her off the ground. And then he was falling, forwards, his arms letting her go as he went. Behind him, her platinum hair practically glowing in the florescent light, was Axel.
Roara pulled herself up, the war markings on her face appearing as though they'd never left. I stormed down the hall to stand beside her. Next to my feet Loki was gasping for air and shuddering.
Axel pouted and tilted her head. "Did I ruin the moment?"
I screamed and threw forwards a ball of light, sending her off her feet. "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" I cried storming forwards and grabbing her throat with both hands, smashing her against the wall. She was about to open her mouth before her eyes widened.
"Yeah." I snarled. "Not lying this time am I?"
I felt my legs to turn to jelly as Axel twisted her hands, controlling my muscles. And then the feelings returned to my legs. I looked around to see Roara twisting her hands, before looking back at Axel who's wrists were pinned to the wall with thick twisting vines.
"Do your thing." Roara told me.
"With pleasure." I pulled all of the pain I'd felt, all of the pain we'd all been submerged into, every cut and bruise, every time we'd been shot, or stabbed, or hurt, and I poured it all into her, ever last drop. She screamed. And I smiled.
She tried to phase out, turn invisible, but I smashed a hand of darkness into her chest forcing her body to reform. "Not this time." I snarled, pressing a ball of light into her eyes, permanently blinding her.
From behind me I heard a horrible scream. One hand still squeezing Axel's throat I looked behind me. Bucky and Steve were crouched down. Roara had Loki's head in her lap, her hands gently cupping his cheeks. His eyes were closed, a small trickle of blood falling from his slightly parted lips.
"YOU KILLED HIM!" Roara screamed, the wild look in her eyes mirroring the one I'd seen on Loki's face after he'd watched the video of her torture.
Axel smiled through her pain. "He was an easy target. It was fun." She laughed. I squeezed her throat tighter. I saw Wanda and Sam skid to a halt at the end of the doorway, Thor hot on their heels.
The roar that came out of Thor's mouth was deafening. "YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!" He yelled, hammer in hand, running forward. His feet lifted off the ground and he slammed into the floor next to me, pressing his hammer into Axel's chest.
"Alina!" Tony shouted from across the hall.
"NOT RIGHT NOW, KINDA BUSY!" I yelled back.
"We found the arm!" He called.
"GREAT, SHUT UP!" Bucky yelled to him.
"You will never win. We will destroy you, all of you, one by one. And when we are done I will laugh at your dead bodies." Axel panted, her voice strained from my grip and the weight of Mjolnir pressed against her chest.
I remembered what I'd promised Loki. I'd make her pay. Loki was difficult, problematic, but he was my friend.
I felt my eyes roll back into my chest, viewing the world in shades of grey. I saw her heart beating steadily under Thor's hammer.
"Move." I commanded him. He must have heard something in my voice because he removed the hammer. I plunged my hand inside her rib cage, feeling her organs, her veins, her lungs. I bellowed with the effort, pushing my hand in harder, feeling the thump of her heart against my fingers. I ripped it out of her chest. My eyes rolled back into place, and I stared at the heart in my hand, the blood and flesh between my fingers. Looking her in the eyes, I ripped it free. Her body went limp against my grip.
I staggered backwards, taking in what I'd just done. I dropped the heart, still warm from her body, onto the floor. I stared at my hands and fell to my knees, screaming. I'd killed her. I'd never killed anyone before. I'd watched the light drain from her eyes and known it was me who had caused it. Just like she'd said to Roara, only it was I who'd done it. It was me. She'd underestimated me. I had underestimated myself. And now I was covered in her blood and retching my guts out in horror at what I'd been able to do.
"Easy now." I looked up and saw Steve, a hand on my back. I fell back against the wall, shaking. I wiped my hand on my trousers, unable to look at Axel's body on the floor, a hole through her chest. I was sobbing uncontrollably. I'd just killed someone. She'd overseen my experiments, my torture, my pain. I knew all of that. She'd killed innocent people. She'd killed Loki.
Steve grabbed my face. "Look at me." He ordered. I looked up at him. "It's okay. You did what you needed to do. It's okay." He pulled me into him. I couldn't stop shaking.
But it wasn't over.
As Steve let go of me I saw Roara and Thor, together cradling Loki's body.
Roara looked up, and screamed. Really screamed. The floor began to vibrate. Thor let go of his brother's body and stood back. The walls were shaking now. Roara's body, Loki still in her arms, began to lift from the ground as she screamed in agony. Steve covered me with his shield as I saw blasts of light emanate from her body. Blue, green, red, and yellow. She burst into coloured light, the energy flowing through the corridor, making my head feel like it was about to burst. And then nothing. Steve lowered his shield. I looked around.
Both Loki and Roara had gone.
