The next day I was in the lounge. Talking to Bruce.
"Research is going really well. We've found some really interesting stuff." He said as I nodded.
"Oh stop boring her." Clint interjected, and I laughed. Bruce just smiled and shook his head.
"How are you dealing? With life as an avenger." Bruce questioned.
"Training is a lot. I've always been a moderately lazy person." We both chuckled.
Before he could reply my phone vibrated in my pocket. An unknown number displayed on the screen.
"Sorry." I said to Bruce and he held a hand out as I walked to the other end of the lounge and brought the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Is this y/n Rogers?" The voice asked.
"Yes." I replied politely.
"You might want to sit down."
At this moment in time, I froze.
"Okay."
I sat.
"Y/n I'm so sorry, it's James."

Lurched.
I didn't speak.
"His plane crashed, and sunk. It was the middle of the ocean y/n. We found him, but we were too late. We used CPR, until we found a tattoo. It instructed do not resuscitate. I'm so sorry. He's gone y/n."
The phone dropped to the floor.
My knees hit wood.
Breathing became difficult.
In 10 seconds, a persons life can change forever. A newspaper article, a tv report,
A phone call.
No one ever sees the end of everything coming. It's not something you can predict.
And I wasn't prepared
