Chapter 416

“Let him worry about that. Let’s head home.” (1)

Chen Yunping was, after all, an attentive woman. She smiled and quickly stepped in to neutralize the situation. “Oh, let’s stop with the exchange of pleasantries. Shishi, here’s your wedding gift from your uncle and I. We didn’t even learn of your wedding till a month after the event.

“Your uncle had this custom designed starting 2 months ago and was barely happy with the result a week ago after several revisions. We are finally able to bring this with us.”

Gu Shishi was surprised by that.

Two months ago?

That was before Mother Gu had her divorce.

Was she trying to tell her that her uncle had been planning on this for a while now and it was straightly meant to be a congratulatory gift for his niece and not something that he just brought along out of convenience when they were here to visit Mother Gu?

If that was the case.

She was indeed a little touched.

Knowing how much work he had put into it, Gu Shishi felt that she should not unwrap it on the spot.

It was also rude to unwrap a gift before the elders depart.

“Shishi, Uncle mainly wanted to meet with you and apologize for your mother to you.”

Zhang Sheng was not one to beat around the bush.

As soon as he finished saying that, Huo Sishen had a very obvious sarcastic look on him.

“Boss Zhang had travelled such distance. You shouldn’t have wasted time on something as minor as this.”

Huo Sishen rejected that with just one sentence.

The extent of an apology depended on the mistake that one had made.

Mother Gu’s attitude toward Shishi, all of her actions, her lack of stepping up to be a mother for Shishi was not something that could be undone by a mere apology.

By defining this as minor, Huo Sishen was denying Mother Gu’s identity as Gu Shishi’s birth mother.

As she had no expectations, she also would not hold her accountable for anything.

Zhang Sheng sighed.

“Young Master Huo is young and attractive. Today is the first time that we have met. It’s good that… Shishi is with you.”

Recovering from the awkwardness, Zhang Sheng couldn't help but placed his attention over on his nephew-in-law.

Even though the Zhang family was based out of the capital, but he had heard of the Huo family.

All the families within the circle were familiar with each other.

Young Master Huo had remained very lowkey the last few years and, with the rumor of being cursed, had also resigned from the stage of prominent families.

Some said that he had enough money to enjoy his life and had been living an unrestrained lifestyle.

Today, however, after their very limited exchanges in less than five minutes, Zhang Sheng had noticed from his mannerism that Gu Jiangxin, his little sister, or perhaps even their entire circle might have underestimated this young master.

His words were sharp and his retort concise and nailing accurately the other party’s weaknesses.

He certainly did not seem like someone who had been living an unrestrained life the past few years.

In fact, he looked to be much more accomplishing than Gu Jiangxin when he was young!

Zhang Sheng couldn't help but smiled bitterly to himself.

The b*stard Gu Jiangxin seemed to have done something good inadvertently.

That being said… he had also increased the difficulty in his communication with his niece right now.

“Let’s order. What would you like?”

Zhang Sheng flagged down the server and pushed the menu in front of them in a very considerate manner.

There was no point in trying to force the subject anymore.

He looked over at his niece at the same time.

Just like his wife had said, she was prettier than his third sister. And not just her look, but also her aura that made her stand out.

Unlike the sickly Gu Wushuang or his third sister with her hidden hint of arrogance and effemination between her brows, Gu Shishi was calm and poise. She has the softness and beauty of one from the southern region but also a stunning charm hiding within if one was to look at her closely.

“Americana still?”

Gu Shishi took the menu but asked the man next to her before she even flipped it open.

Huo Sishen acknowledged her.

Gu Shishi then started picking out what she would like to get.

“I’ll get a juice – coffee will keep me up all night.”
