The exact origin of Aurora, Greek Goddess of
the Stars, is unknown. Unlike other figures in Greek Mythology, reports of Aurora began emerging
towards the beginning of 289 BCE. Wildly
unpopular, she's most famous for the story of her
birth (or rebirth?) and the somewhat confusing but
intriguing way she actually became a Goddess.
Originally born as a human with an unknown name sometime between 750 BCE and 295 BCE, she lived
in Ancient Greece with her abusive father. She was
an avid worshipper of Artemis, the Goddess of the Moon as well as many other things. At the age of seventeen she died in an altercation with her father,
and Artemis, taking pity on the girl who spent all of
her life worshipping her, decided to fight for her.
With the support of her aunts, Athena, Hestia,
and Hera, Artemis was able to convince Zeus
and Hades to allow her to be reborn as a Goddess
on the condition that Artemis carried her. She was
then reborn as Aurora, Goddess of the Stars.
According to mythology she retained her memories
of her life as a human, and because Artemis had
carried her, she was considered to be Artemis'
one and only child. She was credited for natural phenomenons such as meteor showers and
comets, but for the most part, Aurora was known
for her role in the Hunters of Artemis. She was
thought to be Artemis' "right hand," and much like
her mother, hated all men. She was also celibate,
and because of that, joined the ranks of the other
Virgin Goddesses, Artemis, Athena, and Hestia.
