Atsushi stepped towards Dazai, holding his hand out to him. "D... Dazai?"

Dazai didn't respond, only crying into (Y/n) as she laid limp in his arms. Atsushi was unsure what to do – whether to comfort his superior, the one who had been helping and saving him time and time again, or to take care of Aimi, the one who had killed a detective of the Agency (a member who did the right thing and helped others no matter the cost).

Aimi let out a cackle. "You see! That's what it feels like! To have someone who love dearly ripped away from you in mere seconds. It's awful, isn't it?!"

"You need to shut up," Kunikida snapped, twisting her arm as to force her to let go of the gun. "You aren't in the position to make statements like that – not now or ever."

Tanizaki quickly took her other arm, attempting to pin it behind her back but was having more trouble than he initially thought he would. A mix of Aimi's harsh thrashing and unusual strength made it difficult to hold her back.

It eventually led the two agents to throw themselves into the backwall, falling down as it toppled over and broke. They were able to get Aimi on her stomach, pressing her against the ground as they were finally able to pin her arms behind her back.

Yosano and Kyoka soon came out after they heard the commotion. Kyoka slightly hid behind Yosano, who led a quick pace towards the scene. She gasped when she saw (Y/n)'s bloody, limp body, covering her mouth with her glove at the sight.

She quickly went over to (Y/n), leaving Kyoka to go to Atsushi – whose job was to now watch over her as the others worked the scene. Yosano grabbed (Y/n)'s wrist, pulling up her sleeve as she felt for a pulse.

"She's already gone..." Dazai muttered, looking up to Yosano with puffy red eyes. "All that's left is the shell of her soul..."

Kunikida looked over to Yosano and asked, "Is there anything you can do, Dr. Yosano? Anything at all."

"I'm afraid not, Kunikida," she responded, her voice calm and quiet. "(Y/n) is already dead, there is nothing I can do now."

She stood back up, straightening up her skirt as she took a couple steps back. She rubbed her chin as she said, "How are we going to tell Ranpo? He loved (Y/n) more than any of us did, maybe even more than Dazai..."

"You'll tell him that she got what she deserved!" Aimi interjected with a gruff tone, only to be silenced again by Kunikida pressing his elbow into her back.

"You stay quiet," he hissed. He turned back to Yosano and said, "We'll just tell him and the President the truth."

"Tell us what truth?"

Everyone froze (excluding Aimi as she still attempted to free herself). The ones who could turned to look towards the agency's front door, finding Fukuzawa and Ranpo standing in the frame.

Ranpo, who had a bag of chips and a water bottle, walked over to the scene silently. He had nothing to say for once, only stepping over broken pieces of the wall and blood stains.

He stood in front of Dazai and (Y/n), beginning to uncap the water bottle. "Dazai, move your head out of (Y/n)'s chest for a moment."

He did as Ranpo asked, not bothering to look up at him as he kept his eyes on (Y/n)'s. He reached up, pressing his fingers on her eyelids and slowly closing them.

His moment was interrupted when he felt a slight splash of cold water, most of it hitting (Y/n). He shot his head back towards Ranpo and asked, "What was that for?"

"To activate her ability – duh." Ranpo threw his empty water bottle aside. "Now let go of her so she can heal."

Dazai looked back to (Y/n), scanning her body up and down before stopping at her knee. Memories of the bloody bandages from two years ago reentered his mind – prompting him to do as Ranpo instructed.

He laid (Y/n) on the ground gently, pulling himself to his feet as he revealed his partially blood-stained coat. Everyone stared at (Y/n), waiting for something to happen. Whether it had something to do with her ability or not, they waited for even a chance of her return.

Ten minutes passed and nothing happened.

Kunikida and Tanizaki managed to get a pair of cuffs on Aimi, pulling her to her feet as they prepared to involve the police to properly detain her. Despite everyone's sad expressions (excluding Aimi's satisfied one), Ranpo continued to wait patiently for something to happen. But everyone knew that he wouldn't remain patient for long.

Dazai let out a sigh, turning towards Atsushi as he said, "It looks like my plans have been ruined. I suppose I should start finding a way to contact (Y/n)'s relatives, if she has any left."

Atsushi nodded solemnly, beginning to turn to follow Dazai away from the scene. But he was stopped when a slight blue glow began to emanate from behind him. He grabbed Dazai's shoulder, stopping him as he turned towards the light.

"What's happening?" Tanizaki questioned as he used his hand to shield his eyes from the brightening light.

All were shielding their eyes from the light – eventually becoming blinded by the light as it filled the room. Dazai was the first to regain his sight, blinking a couple times as he looked towards the source: (Y/n).

His eyes widened as he watched her heal, her bullet wound healing as the bullet was laid neatly to the side. Her clothes were soaked and her hair stuck to the ground and the back of her neck. Blue markings covered her body, glowing where her skin was exposed. But they soon faded as some of the color began to return in her body.

"What just happened?" Kunikida questioned, blinking a couple times as he regained his sight.

No one was able to answer – until (Y/n) began coughing.

She immediately sat up, coughing some water up and onto the ground in front of her. She gripped her chest, running a hand through her soaking wet hair as she regained her senses.

"See!" Ranpo exclaimed, throwing his chip bag aside as he ran to envelop (Y/n) in a tight hug. "I told you she'd come back!"

"R-Ranpo," she wheezed out as she patted his back, "you're gonna kill me again if you keep squeezing me like this."

Aimi stared at (Y/n) wide-eyed, watching as Yosano and Dazai quickly helped her to her feet. Dazai kept his grip on her, allowing her to use him as a crutch.

"That's impossible," she muttered. "I killed you. I shot you point-blank in the forehead. This isn't possible."

"Believe me," (Y/n) retorted, "I know. I just had a conversation with an asshole of a dragon and nearly drowned coming back here. I don't think you get to tell me what's impossible."

"What the hell?!"

The police soon arrived to properly take Aimi away for her crime – though they were unsure to charge her with murder or attempted murder after the situation was explained to them by Kunikida and Fukuzawa. It was also a close call on whether they would actually take her, as Yosano was fully prepared to "take care" of Aimi herself.

Dazai held her close, but kept a gentle grip on her arms. He leaned down to her level and quietly asked, "Are you feeling alright, (Y/n)?"

"A little woozy, but otherwise fine," she answered, looking up to him. "I'm glad you're here."

"I could say the same about you."

Yosano came over to them. "(Y/n), you may need to come to my office so I can do a check-up on you. You lost a lot of blood so you may need a blood transfusion – luckily, I keep a lot of blood bags in my office."

"I understand." (Y/n) nodded, prompting Dazai to lead her towards her office.

(Y/n) laid in the bed, wearing a hospital gown Yosano provided for her. Her hair was a bit drier and more of the color returned in her face. A line was connected to her arm, transferring more blood into her system.

"You really are amazing, (Y/n)," Yosano stated, writing something down on her clipboard. "You've been able to heal major injuries almost instantly and have managed to return from the dead – how do you do it?"

"Not easily," (Y/n) chuckled in response.

Yosano returned the chuckle. "I suppose you're correct." She placed down the clipboard, sitting on the stool next to her bed. "Did you really talk to a dragon while you were deceased? Was it Ryuji?"

"Oh boy..." (Y/n) leaned back into her pillow. "Yeah, he's also a pretentious asshole. Man, he has no sense of humanity."

"Well, he is a dragon."

"Yeah, I suppose you're right..."

You have no idea, Yosano... No idea.

Dazai knocked on the door, soon walking in as he had changed into a fresh pair of clothes and changed bandages. "Am I missing girl talk? I've heard it's pretty fun."

(Y/n) giggled, a slight smile crossing her lips. "No, you haven't missed much."

Yosano looked between the two as a smirk came across her face. She stood from the stool and walked over to (Y/n). She disconnected the line connected to her arm. "That should be enough, you just need to rest now."

She walked back towards the door, passing Dazai. She whispered something into his ear before waving back to (Y/n), "I'll check on you in half-an-hour (Y/n). You should be feeling a bit better by then." She winked. "Have fun."

Dazai stepped aside and Yosano closed the door behind herself. With a slight click, the door was locked and it was only him and (Y/n). Alone.

"Do you remember what happened?" he asked, walking over to her. He sat on the edge of the bed, prompting her to scooch her legs over. "Before you returned to us—me?"

She looked down at her hands, which were resting in her lap. "I remember everything, Osamu. I saw your reaction after my death." She looked back up at him. "I don't want you to have to ever deal with that."

"Don't worry about me." He reached over, gently grabbing her hand. "But was Ryuji really a pretentious asshole?"

"Oh my god – yes! He was terrible. But," she tightened her grip on his hand, "he gave me a second and last chance. If I die again, that's it. He'll move onto another vessel and leave me in the realm of the gods for the rest of eternity."

"Sounds peaceful."

"It's lonely."

He pulled up her hand, pressing his lips against her knuckle. "Well you're no longer there, you're here with me. I promise you, that will never, ever happen again. I will never let anyone harm you again."

"That's a bit of a big promise, don't you think?"

"Not if you're my wife."

(Y/n) froze. "What did you call me?"

Dazai reached into his pocket, pulling out a small roll of bandages. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you – however long that is. You are the love of my life and you make me want to continue living. (Y/n) (L/n), will you marry me?"

Her lips grew into a smile. She softly responded, "Yes. I will marry you."

He quickly wrapped the bandages around her left ring finger, tying it on top to mimic the placement of the jewel. He kissed her hand, looking up to her slowly before pulling her towards him.

The two's lips connected, sharing a sweet kiss. (Y/n) wasn't sure why it was sweeter, but she just knew that something was different. The process wasn't the best, but it ended quite well.

It was perfect.

(a/n):

just a little side note, ya'll. technically, dazai and (y/n) have been together for over two years -- just without the proper title. so it's not like every disney princess movie ever lol.

i wanted to make that clear before the story continues. :)
