PICSART !

• okay this is gonna be rly quick because i don't like using picsart much, but it's quick. downside is that you cannot layer these very well, especially if you're going to make more than one cover
• so you can do this after you import any picture/sticker/text. see the bottom row i highlighted that has the added effects like a border around the character (like how i made it green around her) and then an adjustable shadow
• and then you can do overlays p quickly with the blend mode. you can scroll through them depending on what overlay you're using and you can also adjust the opacity accordingly if it's too strong
• if picsart has clipping then that would be very, very helpful but idk if they do
• OKAY that one was lazy let's get to ibis :)

how i do mine :3
• my new wattpad theme (new depending on the time ur reading this. i haven't posted this theme yet at the time i'm writing LOL) i was working on had a lot of overlays, especially color ones
• before we start tho, let me address that i'm going to be focusing more on overlays and coloring for this because i don't do shadows very often. however, i recommend doing shadows by making a new layer UNDER the render, and then clicking the "shadow" filter in effects, then set the effect to the layer above. this way you can adjust the shadow if it comes out wrong, and you can edit the render without affecting the shadow

• as you can see below every character has been colorized and textured the same way for the theme
• how i made each of the characters have a slight glowing aura is a liiiiitle too complicated rn but i'll just say: i added a border and a slight outer glow to the characters. then i merged it all with the characters, so that the overlays above would also after the border + outer glow. if you understood this mass of text then i greatly applaud you and i am so sorry
• moving on, these are the overlays i basically had for each character (as you can see they are all clipped to the main body. i may just be the dumbest person on the planet and made it more complicated than it needed to be :') but hey i still made it work.

• to explain each of the layers (in ascending order; from layer 8 to 11; from bottom to top):
i made layer 8 darken the original photo using blue tones, as well as increase the contrast of those darker areas
layer 9 puts in that chrome texture. the blending mode "overlay" is really good with that. use it often for textures :3
i think layer 10 is me being a dumbass, my bad HAHA. i could've just adjusted the lower 2 layers but eh. it's basically the same as the base layer so it can return some of it's look
and layer 11 is to add some color. it's a tritone version of the base layer with shadows = blue, midtones = pink, and highlights = white. if you check the apps tab of this book i think i mentioned that i have no idea how to achieve that tritone effect outside of After Effects and the website i gave for it
• i don't do this too often (tho maybe i should), but full color or gradient overlays over everything is nice, too
• this one is really subtle, but it's before and after (left to right) putting on a final color wash. just the bring the colors more together
[blending mode: soft light; opacity: 30%]
• this one is another good example of coloring, bc as you can see below, nanami would not be green without the green overlay
• this goes for masks as well! like that plastic wrap everyone uses (see resources tab)
• when you import it, it looks like this
• set the blending mode of the layer to lighten or screen and it should work perfectly :) adjust the opacity accordingly
