Hayle's POV

Swimming through open water always helps clear my mind off of things when I was feeling truly troubled by certain thing in my life, today was a special reason, though one that had been bothering me for a very long time. I was coming to my nineteenth cycle of life and I had yet to find my other half, my song, my Suri. My thoughts dwindled to close friends who had found their own Suri many cycles before myself and they now had children of their own to keep their attention instead of adventuring outside of the city.

I clenched my fists, a small spark of anger boiling inside my being, I hated being alone. That thought made me pause and look down at my hand, small sparks were dancing around my fingers, mixed with the ripples and bubbles from the air I conjured along with it. It was very rare for us to be able to conjure more than one Element of the Goddess, usually only the Royal family on occasion is able to do it, but not many can. No one had royal had been seen with this gift in a great many cycles.

Shaking my head I smiled, "ridiculous thoughts." I felt the Elements leave my hand, as I continued, I was never alone, my family had always been supportive of all that I did, I had close ties with other Royal Children from around the seas, some were odd to say the least, but I didn't see them often enough to speculate much on their personalities.

After some time   I had realized that I had swam quite a ways away from the entrance of the city, and that I had actually wandered very near the humans world, my gaze followed the earth as it rose upwards and out of the Goddess' domain. As I stared I noticed that the light of their world had gone to make way for the evening, and the way the water moved told me that a storm was taking place. I turned to leave and go back to my home when I heard a loud splash, as if something had fallen in. I sank down to the sea floor and hid behind a mound of sand and scanned the area, one thing my mother had always said was to be cautious of Humans should i ever come  across them. My eyes fell on a body floating down to the base of the mountain, bubbles slowly rising back to where they came from. a human boy, most likely around my age floated there almost as if in shock, did he not throw himself into the ocean on purpose? i did know of humans who occasionally swam in the ocean for a time.

turning to leave him to his business i suddenly stopped. I should have swam away, I should have left the human to his fate, but something stopped me, curiosity was never something I pursued, I was careful, like most of my people and for good reason, for a millennium we had been hunted and murdered by humans, so we hid, not of our own choice, the goddess had spoken to one of our priestesses foretelling our future should we fight back, she had said that she would rather us hide away and continue to live our lives to the extent she wanted instead of embracing them in the afterlife before their true time to cross into her spiritual domain.

As I got closer I saw an outline of a body, I still very cautious as I approached. Circling slowly making sure that it couldn't see me I got closer and as I did the more I saw, it was a human male, he looked about my age and he had the most perfect features I had ever seen, full pink lips, high cheek bones and a squared defiant jawline, and a pained look on his face, that look did something to me, it made something click. That was when I realized that he needed air, I pulled water in through the gills that were behind my ears and leaned down placing my lips on his gently and released the oxygen into his mouth, he squirmed around slightly, and then opened his eyes that almost glowed and were the color of kelp at the peak of harvest, and they widened as they saw me, but he did not try to swim away from me. I found that curious because that rare human who have seen us have all tried to swim, run away, and even fight us. Our various color bodies, double lidded eyes, and I think our ears tend to set the whole fish man look off. My ears were giant fanlike fins that grew from the sides of my head that were a shade of Grey edged with a blue coloring that made the two colors accent themselves beautifully.

'What are you?' I heard a voice in my head, and I smiled, this was truly a special one, instead of opening his mouth to speak as most humans do he sent his thoughts out into the ocean, possibly not knowing what he was doing, another ability that most of my people had was they sometimes acquire the attributes of whatever sea creature their tails imitate, mine was a bottlenose dolphin tail, sleek, grey, and quite strong, I was very proud of it.

It gave me the ability to essentially be able to communicate with others telepathically, I never did know how the receiving party could hear my thoughts back, but I never questioned the Goddess' gifts. Though not as easily as most would think usually most were just certain feeling pushed off by others that I had trained myself to ignore, but this man's thoughts flowed into my mind so easily I knew instantly why I came to his aid.

'I am yours.' I whispered into his thoughts and closed the space between us and kissed him slowly pumping air in his lungs as we did. I moved away from and smiled at him.

I held out my hand to him, 'will you come?' I asked.

He looked like he was thinking about it, then finally said, or thought 'where would we go?' he asked, and he had this look on his face that told me to never make him feel the way he does ever again.

I grabbed his hand and pulled him with me all the while he was staring at my tail, still never fighting me as I lead him away towards the depths.

I smiled and watched where I was going, 'would it be terrible to say just to trust me and that I will make sure no harm comes to you?'

he thought about it again, his lips pouting out a bit she did that made my stomach flip slightly at how adorable it was, he thought for a much longer time which concerned me, but he looked at me with a small smile, 'sounds like fun.'

Derik's POV

After a few seconds I thought everything was over, the shadow of the shark was circling and slowly almost like it was inspecting me, but I didn't care I just closed my eyes ready to die, that's what Aaron wanted, and why would I want to live with my family gone? I accepted my fate, my life had no more meaning so why shouldn't I just die?

Then the most unexpected thing happened, I felt something soft on my lips, I squirmed around a bit, then opened my eyes to see the most beautiful blue gems I had ever seen. I felt air fill my lungs and the gems moved back to reveal a face, a pale white face and those two sapphires that I now saw were his eyes, they were almost purely blue and glowed slightly in the dim light, but the most shocking thing was where his ears were supposed to be, two giant grey fins tinged blue on the ends fanned out of the side of his head.

'what are you?' I thought my eyes going wide, since I didn't want to waste my breathe trying to talk underwater.

The handsome fish boy smiled at me like if he heard me, and then a voice whispered in my head 'I am yours.'

I was about to freak until his lips pressed gently onto mine and I felt sparks fly as we kissed, I felt like had nothing in the world mattered anymore not really like I had thought earlier though, more like nothing in this world mattered except for him. He pulled back and held out his hand to me, 'will you come?' He asked.

I thought about it, I had no family now, my sister was gone and I know by now Aaron has probably ran away after thinking that he murdered me. So I was going to take the chance, I took his hand, 'Sounds fun.' I said with a smile.

And for a second I was really depressed, but then I thought that my sister wouldn't have wanted me to stay in a place like this anymore when Aaron knew where I was, I would have been running away for the rest of my life, but who would ever think to look in the ocean for someone?

I looked up to see the fish boy staring at me, I wonder what he was thinking about.

'What is your name?' he asked in my head, as he pulled me along with him, I was riding alongside a the biggest dolphin tail I had ever seen, he saw me staring and smiled before turning back and concentrating on swimming, I decided to answer his question, 'my name is Derik Grey.'

'that is a beautiful name,' he thought back still without turning back, 'my name is Hayle Fai.'

The sound of his voice in my head made me shiver, it sounded deep, rough, and very commanding. I wondered if I would ever be able to hear his voice outside of my head. Or my voice for that matter, will I be able to speak ever again? Will I be able to sleep without drowning? Will I have to always rely on him for air?

What on earth have I gotten into?

now i know a bit of it was changed drastically in some points, but it was the only way for me to give my characters a little more depth, let me know what you all think! i also got rid of the second part due to the fact that it was too short and i couldnt figure out what to do without being just a bunch of random filler crap that i could use in future stories.
