Summer is a blessing to some, while it is a curse to others. Summer meant school was out, the cold of winter was swept away, and sunny days were upon us. But summer also meant the beginning of killer heat, feeling sweaty 24/7, and insects were out and about after months of being inactive.
For you and Jinsoul, the two of you fell in the second camp. The hot weather was unbearable, but summer was inevitable and both of you knew it.
"Ughhhhhhhhh..." Jinsoul's voice rang through the quiet confines of the apartment the two of you shared. Once high school was over, you and Jinsoul moved to a small apartment fit for two in downtown Seoul for university and as exciting as it was, the summer heat was only amplified in the busy city. It also didn't help that the air conditioner in the apartment decided it was the perfect time to break. "(y/n)... ice cream..."
You sluggishly made your way into the living room where you found your girlfriend lying on the hardwood floors, facing up towards the ceiling and spread out like a starfish. Sweat was beading on her face as she struggled with the heat. Seeing as it seemed like it was cooler on the floor than your bed, you found yourself doing the same.
"Ice cream..." Jinsoul muttered as she saw you from the corner of her eye you lying down beside her.
"You're closer to the fridge though."
Defeated and not wanting to waste the little energy she had, Jinsoul resigned to her ice cream-less fate.
There was only the sound of cars outside of the windows that were present as the two of you remained on the floor for hours on end, not wanting to do anything in fear of sweating more than you already were. "Less movement equals less heat" was the motto here.
"Imagine if we could just remove summer from the year." Jinsoul eventually broke the silence as she rolled over to her side to look at you. "Like if the year could just be spring, fall, and winter."
"But how would that work. Farmers need summers to grow crops and if there's no summer, than food shortages would be an issue."
"Maybe like if we could time travel and just skip summer. Then we could skip the heat while farmers and whatnot could still grow food."
"But your birthday is in June. Then we'd miss your birthday."
Jinsoul thought for a moment. "Or maybe instead of changing the world, we just change ourselves. Like what if we could photosynthesize and then summers would be helpful for us too? Then we wouldn't miss my birthday and summers wouldn't completely suck."
"That'll save us a lot of money on food, that's for sure."
Now that Jinsoul was thinking, you knew there was no stopping her. She was a creative mind and once the idea was in her head, she could talk for hours on end about ideas and thoughts that would come up in her amazing and beautiful mind. You didn't mind though. It was better than sitting in a muggy room in silence.
"What if your parents were a minotaur and a mermaid and you were born with the lower half of a minotaur and the top half of a mermaid."
The thought made you chuckle. "Yeah. Wouldn't that be weird. But what if it was backwards and you got the top of a minotaur and a lower half of a mermaid."
"So you'd have a ox's head and a fish body?"
"Mhm."
"I think I'd still love you."
"You're so cheesy."
"But you love it."

The conversation went on for a while, touching on being a part of royalty in foreign countries, time travel, and so on. The summer heat was definitely getting to both of your heads and it might've caused a bit of delirium, but it was fun nonetheless.
Silence was once again upon the two of you as the conversation died down, mainly because it was getting too hot to talk. The room was starting to feel like less of a sauna and more like the surface of the sun. Even the hardwood floors underneath you were starting to feel far more like hot asphalt on the sidewalks outside.
"Babe?" Jinsoul's voice once again cut through the silence.
"Hm?"
"Don't we have a fan?"
You weakly pointed in a general direction. "The closet with the vacuum, I think."
"Can you get it."
"You're closer."

After a short battle of attrition, Jinsoul finally cracked and brought out the fan. Like an oasis in the desert, the fan became a sacred monument in the apartment. The fan was only circulating the hot, muggy air of the room, but it was active air nonetheless and it was better than nothing.
It was soon after that both you and Jinsoul were sat in front of the fan as its head swung back and forth, giving each of you the pleasure of moving air against your face.
Jinsoul stood up, now revitalized by the fan, and strolled over to the fridge. "Do you want some ice cream too?"
You nodded and took advantage of your girlfriend's carelessness to subtly slide over, taking most of the fan's range of motion for yourself. As Jinsoul made her way back and took a seat beside you, she knew what you had done.
"I bring you back ice cream and this is how you repay me?" She whined as she handed you your ice cream.
"Survival of the fittest, love."
Jinsoul raised a brow as she formulated a plan in her head. You knew the gears were turning as she fell into a silence. A part of you feared for your life, mainly because Jinsoul's plans usually went downhill rather fast, like the time she convinced you that the best path out of a house party gone awry was to climb over a 15 foot fence only to wake up at home not remembering much after the fact.
Instead, unlike you had envisioned, Jinsoul simply sat in front of you, blocking the airflow, and raising the hem of her shirt to let the fan blow air onto her stomach, something you wished you had thought of before her.
"That's not fair." You complained as you wrapped your arms around your girlfriend from behind.
Jinsoul whined back as she felt the heat radiating from your body. "Babe, it's way too hot for cuddles. I love you, but now's not the time."
"But you're taking up the fan."
"You did it first."

Eventually, the fan was once again split evenly between the two of you. It seemed like lying on the floor while the fan did its job was the perfect way to fight the heat of summer. The silence was starting to creep up again, but as usual, Jinsoul fought back.
"But think about it. What if you went back in time to see ancient Rome or something and found out our history lessons were all wrong? Wouldn't you want to come back and show them proof that the stuff they're teaching in schools is wrong?" She was back to the weird conversations from not too long ago. Maybe it wasn't the summer heat that was messing with her after all.
"I think it'll be hard to convince someone that you've gone back in time and saw history unfold." You reasoned.
Jinsoul thought for a moment before an imaginary lightbulb lit up in her head. "Oh! Then what if we messed around with history to make it so modern history classes get it right? Like we go back in time to when the first notes on the Romans were being written and we fix it so they get it right. Then that information would be passed through time until the modern day?"
"That sounds like a paradox waiting to happen. If I did that, I might stop existing or something."
"Oh... that wouldn't be nice. Then I'd never meet you." Jinsoul frowned. " Man, time travel is scary stuff. Paradoxes and time loops are too confusing."
You nodded. "I think we should leave that stuff to the professionals."
"Yeah." From the corner of your eye, you could still see Jinsoul thinking to herself with a pensive look on her face. "But wouldn't it be crazy if either of us created time travel and then we go to the past and write a book or something?"
"Wouldn't that be crazy..."
Along with Jinsoul, your mind also started to drift towards the thoughts of time travel, but before it could get too far, Jinsoul's phone vibrated against the hardwood floor. A text came through. Your girlfriend sluggishly picked up the phone that sat beside her.
"Who is it?" You asked.
"It's Jungeun."
You watched as Jinsoul's expressions changed a thousand times before she turned to you with a confused look.
"What?"
She slid her phone along the floor and when you picked up the phone to see a photo Jungeun took in a bookstore just down the street, you shared Jinsoul's sentiment. You looked over to your girlfriend and with a dumbfounded expression, four words fell out of your mouth.
"Wouldn't that be crazy..."

A/N
It's been a while since I've written more than like 50 words in a day. This was done within a two hours and the idea came from lying down on the floor basically doing the same thing as in the story bc 34 degrees with 100% humidity and no wind absolutely sucks.
I also absolutely love Jinsoul's steel blue hair but coconut Jinsoul superiority.
I'm going to try to finish a one-shot request sometime this or next week since I have nothing to do for a bit.
