I frowned while staring into the mirror, I wasn't sure if I liked my outfit. It was a Yellow button-down cami from Chloe and a pair of black shorts from Dolce and Gabbana. My dad had bought the outfit for me, the clothing was nice but I wasn't sure if I could totally pull off yellow.
I was temporarily distracted when my phone chimed. I picked it up to see a text from Julien with a picture of a gold brooch that had green and red jewels in it
J: For your approval!!
M: You wore that to the Kinsley and now it's everywhere.
L: Melt it down
J: What do you think Cat?
C: It'll be out of season soon, I wouldn't suggest wearing it again
I quickly changed into a small black dress also from Dolce and Gabbana before putting my black heels on. Black was way more my color than yellow. Audrey usually weighed in on outfit questions so I wondered what she was doing. I was excited for the first day of school, we had been in quarantine for a year and finally, we would be back in the real world.

"Lune?" I sat on the steps to our school with JC, Luna, and Monet, Audrey still hadn't shown up and it was definitely odd
"The brick will wash her out," Monet said looking at our surroundings, JC was ordering a dress from Alice + Olivia
"Up and to the left" I instructed, Julien turned her head and I applied her highlighter
"Where's that from?" Julien asked looking at the brush
"No clue" I shrugged
"Ew, go" Monet exclaimed looking at two teachers who were in our space "don't they have their own entrance or something, I'm standing here, you see me don't you?"
"Ok, come on let's do this" Julien stood up and held her phone out for Monet to take, we were doing her first day of school Instagram photo
"Arrival, first day, junior year, back up a little bit, a little more" Julien backed up so much I was afraid that she was going to tumble down the stairs. She held her Louis Vuitton bag out to the side
"Ok, show me the bag," I told her, she raised the bag and one of our stupid teachers crashed into her and she spilled her coffee
"Sorry, Mrs.Keller I didn't see you there," Julien said in a sickeningly sweet tone
"It wasn't your fault" I spoke up "she almost destroyed your bag, it would take her whole month's salary to replace it" I put my hand on my hip and stared at Mrs.Keller
"Rayon gives me nose bleeds," Luna said looking at Mrs. Keller's clothes "could you move?"
"Is that Zara?" I scoffed eyeing her shirt and jacket, Luna sniggered
"Kate" another teacher walked up, she gave us a slightly scared look, "I thought we were meeting inside" the two teachers walked away quickly
"Ugh, we should have a - no Zara rule at school" Luna sniffed "Zara, east of lex only"
"Come on guys" I waved them over to a table and we sat down. Julien began to scroll through Instagram like always
"Hey hey" Monet scowled at two people who were taking pictures of us "keep it moving, please, and thank you" I laughed as the two ran inside, our friend group was feared to say the least "ooh the sun has arrived" the clouds had parted and a few rays of sunshine were now visible
"Yes he has" I looked over to see my favorite person in the whole entire world walking up the steps
"Maxi" I squealed running up to give him a huge hug
"Catherine, don't run in those shoes, you'll ruin them" Luna scoffed, I ignored her
"I missed you," I told him
"You face timed me every day"
"Whatever" we went back to the table and sat down, Obie showed up a few seconds later
"Obie!" Julien stood up and gave her boyfriend a kiss "you're rumpled and sweaty" she commented
"That suddenly bothers you why?" he asked with a small smile
"You said you'd do my story," she told him
"Shit, I forgot" he looked away a bit embarrassed "I was bringing breakfast to the Navy Yard strike line but I saved you one, Fan Fans, your favorite" Julien ran her fingers through his hair, they made an adorable couple in my opinion
"And you owe me one hundred dollars" I smirked at Max
"No" he wrinkled is nose
"A deals a deal, I won the bet"
"Hang on" Obie looked at us "did you bet on me forgetting JC's story?"
"Possibly" Max sniggered
"Julien, Cat" I turned again to see Audrey coming forward, I jumped up and gave her a hug
"Audrey!!!" I smiled Aki was behind her as usual, he was her boyfriend and also one of Max's best friends
"Well if it isn't the whole gang back together again" Aki gave Max a high five
"You can change the group chat name all you want, it's not sticking" Obie shook his head laughing at Aki
"You'll get Kurosawa one day," Aki told him, he then looked over at Max "is that what your face looks like without a mask?"
"Hope, it's been a few" Max greeted her
"Since when do you turn up on time for the first day of school?" she asked
"I was wondering the same thing" I laughed
"I guess all those months away gave me a renewed interest in the student body" he wrapped his arm around my shoulder "yours included Cat"
"Stop" I pushed his smirking face away
"The gram can wait ladies" Audrey snapped at Luna and Monet "she's looking for her sister" JC's sister had just moved to New York and she would be going to Constance
"She's not my sister"
"A DNA test would disagree," I told her
"She's just half"
"You have a sister?" Max asked leaning forward
"where have you been?" I asked
"You promised never to mention her" Jc snapped
"It's a big deal" Audrey looked very serious "we should not pretend otherwise, she enrolled and moved here like some stalker and if it wasn't for Headmistress Burton who gave JC a heads up, we wouldn't have even known"
"Their dad's hate each other" I commented taking a sip of my coffee
"Oh, I remember, she's from when your mom ran off from you and your dad?" Max asked
"Yeah, and if my dad knew Zoya was here he would pull me out of school, or the hemisphere, that's how angry he still is" JC rubbed her temples "guys it's ok, she and I don't owe each other anything, besides, I have everyone I need right here live and in-person" she touched all of us kindly
"Family drama is so not my thing" Max sighed "I'm more of a medical procedure kind of guy" he pulled out a bottle of pills "two addys to get me through calc and a benzo to slumber through Vicki Fic"
"Gimmie one" I held out my hand as he popped a pill into his mouth, he quickly grabbed my face and pushed the Addy into my mouth with his tongue disguising it as a kiss
"Ew Max" I pushed him away but I couldn't lie, that was kinda hot, I noticed that JC's attention had been averted, she was staring at a girl with long black hair and Adidas shoes
"Is that your sister?" I asked with a small smirk, she was pretty but her style hurt my soul
"Should we throw our Lattes on her?" Monet asked "Tumeric stains forever"
"I don't know what you're talking about, I can't see freshmen" Luna stuck her nose in the air
"I like her shoes" JC smiled. I rolled my eyes and turned back to my friends, I was so happy to be seeing them in person with no masks and no social distancing.
