winter of peril

A white blanket of snow

that continues to grow and grow

as the blizzard never abates,

leaving us in this freezing perilous state.

The flurry of snow,

the frost on my window,

the thick winter clouds,

the slush piling on the ground.

Winter hides every hint of sunshine,

every ray of daylight.

on top of that it casts

piercing winds your way

paralyzing you to your bed,

numbing every nerve in your body,

as you shiver helplessly

in a corner,

unable to move.

everyday is frigid and bitter.

everyday is the same.

i cannot win in this perilous game

so all i do is wait

for the snowstorm to abate

for time to show mercy

and take pity on me.

when this winter of peril is done,

i can finally wake up

to the comforting warmth

of spring's sun.
