In the storm

Nathan was sitting on the edge of the plush leather sofa in the dimly-lit security room, carefully watching the movements of Kris on the large adjusted monitors that took up a whole wall.

He thought to himself how her movements resembled that of a Panther, graceful, smooth and unnnoticed. Well unnoticed from her perception, he watched how gracefully and adroitly she had passed the ultra security laser beams, as if she had been practicing it for quite some time. He had been thinking back to all her movements throughout her period of working here, each little movement gave him a hint , a hint he was guilty of not picking up earlier as in than two nights ago, when suddenly he was interrupted by a voice.

"She's getting to the main room. Can we send the people now?" Rob questioned Nathan, voice laced with impatience.

"Send the people, tell them to get her alive." Nathan responded in a monotonous and calm tone, even though the sensation of betrayal, stinging him strenuously was making it hard for him to keep his calm. He felt like an ocean in a storm, far from calm. Everything inside of him screaming, raging and blaming him for what if she would have divulged their sensitive data before anyone of them had noticed it.

He sat on the sofa and saw the team take her down. They gave her chloroform to prevent her from fighting back and so in less than a minute, she was unconscious and in their hold. He spoke up "Take her to Room 139."

He said it ever so calmly that anyone could have mistaken him for not being bothered by everything that has happened but people around him knew it better to not interrupt him right now. He got up from the sofa , feeling stuffed in a room as large as a hall to host balls. He knew this feeling, the stinging sensation was not going away so easily, not until he had a talk with Kristina, he turned around before retiring from the room and asseverated "Tie her up and call me when she gains consciousness. Place the code black security in room 139."

John, the head of security department nodded and went back to checking each footage with a tinge of fear. The fear from Nathan's supercilious tone of voice and thinking of consequences if she would have succeeded.

Nathan left the room and walked to the elevator noticing everyone shifting or squirming under his gaze, but he didn't care now to keep the calm look. He felt the storm within him rage and he only wished that no one got in his way because it would be his last wish to dump his ire on someone who didn't deserve it as much as Kristina.

He stepped into elevator, contemplating if he should go home or continue his work like nothing had happened. When the elevator door dinged open, he stepped out, his car was standing with his chauffeur in front of the building, he decided on going back to home.

It was raining outside, each raindrop looking like an antidote for his inner storm, it made him wish to just stand in the rain, but of course his bodyguard decided to bring an umbrella before he could step out. That's when it hit him that he couldn't get drenched here, it's his workplace he needs to behave, especially when he's the partial boss here, he decided that he needed to get to his place for as soon as he could and then maybe take a long shower. He stepped outside, thinking back to the mission they were supposed to send Kris, the girl who made him drip with rage. Rage was the ultimate result of betrayal.

He got in his ergonomic car in a swift motion, as the car started moving ahead, he felt a sensation of phlegm washing over him, of course a storm doesn't calm in a minute, especially one in your conscience, but the pelting rain drops on his car window helped a bit. Just as he took out his phone, he got a message and he groaned seeing it was from Adam. He knew exactly why Adam would have texted him, it was about the mission Kris was supposed to be sent to because now they had no one to take her place. The last thing he wanted right now would be to think or talk about would be anything related to Kris.

This was when he decided he would just ignore the message, bact like he didn't see it, but that was not him,he could never ignore his job, be it for whatever reason. He had to think of a professional, who wouldn't require much training but could do their job.

The problem was that he had to find someone who had never in any way have been associated to his agency. Of course it was a secretive agency, but the people they were supposed to trick for these missions had their ways, they got their deal of information for people who had been working with Nathan.

Even Kris had joined the agency nearly six months ago, they had trained her for two months but she was a natural, that was what they thought, this again made him think how he never paid attention to how swift her movements were, everything seemed to make sense now, she had already been trained by the people who had sent her here.

His phone started ringing loudly, pulling him back from his thoughts. He noticed the caller ID, it was his mom. He decided she would have already got the information for whatever had happened at the agency, as both his parents even though were partial boss, they always got every piece of information prior to anyone else.

He picked up the phone. His mom spoke up from the other side "Son". He simply responded with a "Yes mum". He heard her sigh from the other end, he could tell she was stressed. She spoke up again "I heard what happened with the Kris girl, the next mission is so close, Nate, so what have you thought about the mission, do you have someone in your mind who can replace that girl?".

"Well, mum you can stop stressing out yourself, you guys are supposed to be on a peaceful vacation, I know you are going to tell me, you guys are still half involved but hey, don't stress out or anything, I already told you that you can own the whole agency but just give yourselves, a bit of peace. I will see something about the mission, although no one's currently on my mind." Nathan answered with concern in his voice.

"Honey, I'm not stressing out, I'm just simply trying to help you. And oh, I do have someone in my mind, I'll just text you or Gemma about it, yeah?" Nathan was thinking if Gemma got involved in this mission again, Gemma being his stubborn sister, she had left the whole thing, when Kris started befriending Nathan, the only explanation he got from her was that 'Kris is a bitch, I don't work with bitches'.

"Yeah sure, mum"was all he responded."Take care Nate, sarah's calling me, I gotta go. Bye". Nathan smiled thinking about his moms and replied with a "yeah, bye mum." before he hung up.

He got back to thinking of the mission, and who could his mom be probably talking about. As his car was passing by the Brick Avenue, he saw a man with brown feathery hair, bdrenched wet holding a bottle of, what looked like beer, drinking it and walking in the rain like he had no care in the world, the guy turned around as if trying to enjoy himself in the rain and that's when Nathan saw his ass.

'Definitely could compete with the Kardashians' he thought to himself and chuckled lightly. The driver passed by the guy, and Nathan heard him slurryily say "I hate love." it sounded as if he was half crying.

Nathan suddenly became pensive, thinking about how delicately and intriguingly, the drunk unnamed stranger had, in a drunk state of mind, had announced to the empty streets and the dark rumbling skies, that he abhorred the most pulchritudinous feeling he had ever thought of. How could this guy comprehend that his love was right, right enough to deem the whole concept with a word as strong as hate? Is there anything such as right love?

Nathan hadn't experienced love, he had met people, travelled the world, liked people but love, that sweet and sour, that pain and pleasure, that longing someone when not holding them close to your heart feeling, he had never felt that. He reminded himself how it was not important for him right now, how he had work, a responsibility. No time for love, he told himself, but it stung in his heart, which he decided were to be shunned. Nathan pushed his mind back to the usual work stuff as he passed the street to his home.
