I awake to the sound of Tony and a low and husky yet unidentifiable voice arguing from outside my door.

God, why does Tony always have to get into fights.

I glance down at my golden wristwatch to see that the time was approaching 7am, very much too early to be dealing with Mr Stark and the by-products of his painfully childish behaviour. Not caring for my rather insubstantial sleepwear, I peel myself from the warm covers of my bed and head to check the commotion.

"Tony will you please shut u-" I speak as I open my door, only to be greeted with a knife thrown towards my face - however upon instinct I catch it - with my magic, glancing down at a nail that I noticed to be chipped as I moved my hand.

"Would you look at that." I mutter to myself, blissfully ignorant to the two men standing in front of me, sensing their confusion and surprisal - well only Tony's confusion, which immediately catches my attention. I could not sense the presence or the emotions of the other man, so instinctively my eyes begin to travel up his other-worldly attire - a dark green and golden armour, fit for a king, my first thought. His perfectly slicked-back, raven hair barely brushing his heavily plated shoulders.

As my eyes meet his alarmingly vacant green ones, I cannot help but feel intimidated. A knowing smirk forms on his lips, subtle to anyone but me, who he could tell was currently studying his every crease profusely. Though I avert my eyes almost as quickly as I caught the knife, the feeling of not sensing another still settled horribly within me, the rarest of occurrences that I had never experienced before.

"I - erm, excuse me." I stutter out, running a hand through my loose and messy curls as I walk past the two, not looking back. Not even feeling his eyes on me as I walk around the corner, a silence consuming the part of me that never stops, painfully intriguing in its manner. His manner. I shake my head, biting my lower lip as I smile toward Steve and Nat who had obviously just finished with a morning training session.

"Good mornin' Y/n," Steve says as he wipes his face with a crisp white towel, then handing it to Nat who shoves it back in his face scoffing. I can't help the little giggle at their actions, earning a smile from the both of them.

"Good morning guys!" I smirk. The residents here knew how I enjoyed morning formalities for they remind me of home. A place we all missed even though it seemed, for the most of us, home was either severely dysfunctional or far too long for us to remember. Mine being neither, though. Forever embedded in my memory, and perhaps too perfectly functioning. But I've never been one for perfection.

Nat smiles, "Sleep well?" she asks.

"Amazing until I woke up to a knife thrown in my face." I roll my eyes. I sense both of their shock, but immediately it is overtaken by inquisition. "Tony and some man, never seen him before though. Long dark hair, sort of ridiculous armour for the sake of the US."

They both look at each other at the same time.

"Loki's back, it seems." Tony says from behind me. His voice heavily irritated.

"Who's Loki?" I question, reading the contempt that fills the air with curiosity. Yet I am met only with silence for a minute or two. "Erm? Earth to Avengers?"

"Oh, yea sorry Y/n." Tony says as he types away on one of his gadgets.

"Loki is Thor's psycho brother. Tried to take over New York a few years ago."

"Nope, does not ring a bell." I respond.

"Sometimes I forget you've literally been living under a rock all your life Y/n." Tony says as he puts his hand on my shoulder.

"Do try your best to remember." I say with sarcasm, patting the hand on my shoulder, still annoyed at his earlier actions that almost resulted in a knife through my eye.

"Why's he here?" Steve says, his tone stressed. "We've made it pretty clear to Thor that we don't want responsibility for hi-"

"Hey, hey calm down granddad, it was me, I called him here." Tony says waving his arms about.

"You did what? Why?" Nat exclaims, her hands on her temples.

"Okay can everyone please take a deep breath. I'm having trouble shutting it all out today." I interrupt at the growing chaos, taking a step back to lean against the wall.

"Sorry Y/n." Tony says, "I thought he would be more - compliant."

"You were wrong, apparently he threw a knife at Y/n's face." Nat says.

"Bruce Banner says breakfast is served." We hear FRIDAY speak, summoning us to the kitchen area.

"Saved by FRIDAY. Thank you FRIDAY." Tony chuckles, shaking his head.

"I need a minute alone." I mutter quietly, and Nat sends me a sympathetic smile, before I watch them head off into the lift.

My room is the only inhabited room on its floor, it tends to be deserted apart from when the gym is in use, but that does usually only consist of Steve and Nat in the early mornings, sometimes late evenings. Our training room is on a lower floor, which is mandatory in our schedule, as are Tony's classic movie nights every Tuesday.

I head back in the direction of my room, my eyes glued to the floor, and my thoughts rushing through my mind.

Distracted, I feel myself bump into rock hard metal, almost falling back upon its hard impact, but a hand strongly wraps around my waist, holding me in place.

"Watch where you are going, you mewling quim." He seethed, his grip still tight with his evident anger.

"I-Excuse me, What did you just call me?" I stammer, feeling pathetic at the fact that I could not even sense him walking down the corridor at the same time as I, and shocked at his obvious sexist insult.

He merely scoffs in response, shoving me to the side so I hit the wall, and strides back down the corridor towards the elevator.

Rude.

"Did your mother forget to teach you basic societal manners, mate?" I impulsively call out after him, a feeling of instant regret washing over me.

He whips around, his hair flicking as he turns.

"Did you just address me as your mate?" He steps towards me, slowly. "I am no mate of yours." He steps closer, shutting off the space between him and me, and me and the wall. I gasp slightly as my back comes into contact with it. "I am Loki of Asgard. I am a God. You dare disrespect me or even mention my mother-" I look up into his green eyes once more. "I will end you before you even have the chance to open your pathetic little mouth to call for help." I feel his words against my face, his lips so close to me.

And as fast as he came close, he disappeared back down the long corridor, I watch him walk. When he stands in the elevator, he turns to face me, and we hold eye contact until the doors close, and when they shut after what feels like an eternity, I let out a breath I was not aware I had been holding.

Good morning to you too.

I slam the door of my bedroom, kicking the dresser as I walk past it. I had no idea why he affected me this much, made me feel so irritated. Maybe the fact that he tried to kill me with a knife, or called me a mewling quim as if I wouldn't know what that means. But whatever quality he possesses, he sure does make it so that everyone feels it - when he enters the room, or his name even comes into conversation.
