"You got me flowers?" George melted, his voice softer than cotton.
"Not for you, dumbass, for your parents."
George deflated, bright eyes dimming and his smile fading into an unimpressed frown. Chungha reached over to pinch his cheek before setting the flowers down at her feet. She couldn't help but feel quite bad, so she made a mental note to surprise her puppy-like-human with some flowers the next time they were due to see each other.
The long awaited day had finally come and George was introducing Chungha to his family. Whilst she had already passed the BTS test, she was now stepping into next level territory by meeting his parents and siblings. This was more nerve wracking than she had anticipated. George is a huge family guy and if they didn't like her- she didn't even want to imagine what that would end like.
"Why are you nervous? They don't bite- well actually that's a lie, Areum bites but that just means she's fond of you."
"I just really want them to like me."
"And they will. Namjoon has already put in a good word for you and they trust his judgement," George assured her.
His parents had called his leader when George confessed through text that he was seeing someone. And they immediately ran to call Namjoon to get his opinion on the new woman in their son's life. Of course, Namjoon spoke fondly of Chungha and assured them that George appears to be in good hands.
"I know how much your family means to you. Plus, you have only recently just got a good relationship with your step-mum and I don't want to put a barrier in between that if she happens to dislike me."
George kept his eyes on the road, but chose to acknowledge her with a squeeze to the thigh where his hand had been resting. She let out a breath after voicing her worries.
"I promise you, they will love you."
Chungha could only nod and place a hand over his own. She hoped he was right.
The second Kim Chungha stepped into the Lee household, she was whisked away by Dahae. He shook his head, amusement bubbling within him as his step mother gushed over having another 'young woman' in the family.
"Oh thank god. I need to pee, would you please watch your sister?" David didn't give his son anytime to respond before he was passing the youngest Lee over to the eldest.
"Nice to see you too, Dad. I've been great," George mumbled sarcastically to himself before settling his eyes on his baby sister who had some kind of icing around her mouth. "What have you been eating?"
"Ice cream," she replied to the best of her ability.
George chuckled and turned on his heel. He stepped into the kitchen where Dahae and Chungha were laughing together but she immediately stopped when she set eyes on the youngest Lee child in her boyfriend's arms. Instantly, her eyes softened and she covered her mouth.
With curious eyes, Areum studied the new woman before looking at her brother. She pointed over at Chungha. George was about to try and introduce the two when the twins came stumbling into the kitchen with their nerf guns, whilst Aera trudged behind them. All three stopped when they laid their eyes upon the newcomer.
Looking unsure, Aera grabbed onto Geonho's sleeve.
"Siblings I didn't want-"
"Geun," Dahae warned.
"This is Chungha. My girlfriend." He didn't know whether they would understand what that meant, but he was aware that his parents had explained that Chungha was special to him beforehand just to get them used to the idea of someone new joining their family.
Gwangmin grimaced. "Girlfriend? That means you kiss her!"
"Gwangmin don't be so rude!" Geonho scolded his twin brother before turning to Chungha and politely bowing. "Hello! It's lovely to meet you."
Chungha clasped a hand over her heart whilst George grinned smugly. "He's the favourite twin I was talking about."
Gwangmin shot a nerf bullet at his older brother.
Areum held her arms out, clearly wanting to get closer to the older woman. Chungha took her into her embrace quite quickly making George grin and turn to the other mini girl in his life; a very frowny Aera.
"Aera? What's the matter?" Dahae beat him to the question.
"She has anger issues," Gwangmin explained casually before shooting her with his nerf gun making the younger girl cry out. George turned and lifted her up off the ground.
"You're being evil today."
"He's always evil," Geonho spoke up.
Chungha chuckled. The twins looked so much like George, and as their father entered the room she couldn't help but nearly choke on air upon realizing that they were all a copy of their father.
"Oh. She's real?" David joked making George sarcastically laugh whilst Chungha smiled fondly- but nervously - at Mr Lee. "I see Areum has taken a liking. She hasn't tried to bite you yet, right? She does that often with strangers lately."
"Not yet, she's preoccupied with my rings."
The child was, in fact, distracted by the jewellery on Chungha's fingers. George watched, he looked like an epitome of a love sick puppy. David and Dahae shared a look, one that spoke a thousand silent words — mutual agreement that their son was smitten. They were so beyond proud.
The moment, however, was ruined by a jealous Aera, who slapped George's mouth in order to gain back his attention. Quickly, the eldest Lee child figured out the problem. She had never had to fight for his attention before, not even with her other siblings. But now, there was competition for his attention and the number one spot in his heart and Aera wasn't impressed.
"Don't slap, that's rude," he scolded her to which she replied with a pout.
"Noona! Can I show you my drawings?" Geonho asked with big puppy eyes that made Chungha's heart melt into a puddle of mush. Immediately, she nodded and gave George a smile as his younger sibling escorted her out of the room, his twin following closely behind.
With Chungha out of the room and Areum passed off to his dad, George could give Aera is complete focus. He placed her on top of the counter and poked her cheek.
"Why are you angry at me?" He asked.
Aera simply frowned. She was far too young to understand the concept of love, but she knew enough to know that the woman she had been introduced to was special to George. And her young brain correlated that to her older brother not loving her as much anymore.
"Chungha's nice, Aera. She wants to be your friend," Daehae stepped in.
"I don't like her. She's going to steal you away from me and you will never ever love me again." The younger girl played with the necklace around George's neck.
"That's not true. You're my sister. I don't have a choic-"
"Geun," Dahae warned.
George rolled his eyes playfully. "I love you, Aera. And I always will, no matter who comes along. You will always be my favourite little angel."
"What about Areum?"
"I love you and Areum equally. I love the twins a little less, Geonho a lot more than-"
"Geun Lee."
"Kidding! I love you all the same and I need you to be kind to Chungha. She really really really wants to play with you and be your friend. You're making her sad."
Aera let out a sigh, a sassy eye roll following. "I guess I'll be her friend if she wants it that bad."
George grinned and poked her cheek once more. "Thank you, you're the best."
It took Aera a little longer to warm up to the new woman in George's life, but she was trying and it was apparent by the way she inched closer and closer until she was pretty much sitting on top of Chungha's lap. Aera was a little quieter than usual, but she was adapting to the new situation and that's all George could ask for.
"I really like her, George," Dahae told her step son, eyes gleaming as if she was on the verge of tears.
"Me too, mama bear. Me too."
Though George was lying...he didn't like Chungha. He was beginning to think he loved her.
