It all started with a smile
way back in first grade
we sat together one day
we've now been friends for a while.
The two of us had a bond
around others I was soundless
but with you, our chats were endless
our link was simply strong.
We would walk side by side
arm in arm, to the playground
we followed each other around
until our cars arrived.
You, me, and the other boys
shared notes, food, and other things
teased and laughed until we started aching
every day was filled with new joys.
Remember when we would play
suffering sandwich and torture chamber
and other games designed to hurt
what pain we felt, we laughed away.
Our journey had its ups and downs
We'd do things the other didn't like
We'd lash out and make each other cry
but we'd stop, forgive, and move on.
All our mistakes we kept in the past
learning from them was what mattered
focused only on the present and future
that was what made us last.
How I wish more people were like you
not afraid to be brutal and honest
instead of keeping things in their chest
and letting bitter feelings brew.
But look at us, we're still good friends
through thick and thin and highs and lows
we stuck together and didn't let go
so cheers to a bond that shall never end.
