I used to be a heroine. The moment I landed in this part of the universe, I thought saving it from evil would be one of my greatest missions in life. Imagine na galing ka sa isang lugar na winasak ng ibang nilalang, and all you wanted was a peaceful life and a new beginning in a harmonious land. Pagkatapos bigla kang pinasabak sa isa pang giyera.

Hindi madaling maging mabuti, especially if you were surrounded by people with bad intentions.

After my retirement as a war veteran, Hidden Sparks became the place I badly wanted to protect. But the unlucky part of my city life was the truth that we were governed by evil ones wearing the mask of a good and humble servant. And I couldn't be a heroine when the main requirement of being one was to be a government's underdog.

We are powerful beings. We are gods. We are immortals. We are invincible.

Bullshit.

As if he hasn't had the ability to wipe the whole Hidden Sparks in just a snap.

I knew that sounded so evil, but threat is a must-have kung nakikipag-deal kami sa mga halimaw ng gobyerno.

I had a peaceful sleep last night kaya hindi rin joke ang sinabi ko kay Izan na aagahan ko ang pagpunta sa city council. The city hall was located in the middle of the city at tanghali na para sa mga taga-Hidden Sparks ang alas-otso ng umaga.

Hero Syndrome is really a headache for me.

The front of the city hall was a fully-occupied parking lot. Expensive cars on the left and bikes were neatly locked on the far right end.

"Good morning, Mystic," she greeted in her usual soprano voice. "Second floor."

"Thanks."

Every time na may meeting sa city council, hindi ako pumupunta as Chillie. I needed to be in my villainess mode kasi haharangin ako sa front desk kapag ordinaryong citizen lang ako. And Chillie is way far different from Mystic.

The red cape added an accent to my whole figure aside from my body-fit, spandex-like uniform. My hair became fiery red every time I transformed, and so were my eyes and lips. Red is a hero color pero wala akong pakialam. I love red. May black belt akong suot na may letter M sa buckle. And my face looked like I was ready to slap some stupid ass in front of me at nagre-reflect ang itsura ko sa glass chandelier and glass doors sa hallway.

Nasa second floor ang office ng vice mayor, and using the elevator was not so Mystic that was why flying in front of the city hall employees was not a surprising view for everyone.

I loved the sound of my heels clicking on the tiled floor bago pa ako makalapit sa office ni Vinnie, the vice mayor. I loved the sound of power and superiority I was producing in this cursed building. I visit the city council.

I don't do knocking, so I opened the door and found the man in his mid-forties, sitting on his cushioned swivel chair and doing some paperwork.

"You can knock, Mystic," he said, less than a greeting and more than a sarcastic remark. "You're supposedly my 1 p.m."

"News?"

I cringed upon hearing that.

"So what's the 'bad' news?" I asked, keeping an eye on his serious, busy face. I noticed his thin golden-framed eyeglasses.

"And what about you?"

At last, his eyes—a victim of mild astigmatism—landed on mine.

I rolled my eyes at that fact. Vinnie is a hell-raised demon. Well, not literally. And I was a part of that truth.

"What about Mister Beckman?"

"Kakausapin ko siya later."

"Mawawalan na rin ba siya ng trabaho?"

"Is that even your business?"

"He is my business as Mystic.

I was expecting for an answer pero nginitian lang ako ni Vinnie. Personally, wala akong pakialam kung mabakante ako as a part-time city villainess dahil hindi iyon malaking bagay sa buhay ko, pero sigurado akong malaking bagay iyon for Izan.

"My rate is ten times higher than him. Wala na rin siya sa Finnigan's. You can't just leave him without any pay," I informed, telling the "head" of the city council about the social and financial status of their so-called hero.

He's Mister Beckman. He can do other jobs aside from being a city hero."

I wanted to punch Vinnie straight to his surprisingly good-looking face kaso napapaisip din ako kung bakit ko gagawin iyon.

He was right. Mister Beckman's business was not fully my business after all bilang Chillie.

"You may go now, Mystic. Kapag may emergency, just call me."

"If I need a job, will you give me one?" I asked.

"Malamang. Depende sa trabaho."

"If I will destroy the Meronna Bank to steal money because I'm broke, what will you do?"

His eyes were full of questions as if I said something worthy of his information-eliciting glares.

"Come on, Mystic.

"I agreed to be the city villainess kasi roon lang kami nagkakaroon ng trabaho ni Mister Beckman bilang kung ano talaga kami. Begging is not my thing so please, huwag sana tayong umabot sa puntong paninindigan ko na kung ano ba talaga ako sa Hidden Sparks." "Let me remind you, Vinnie: I was a war veteran and I was trained to kill, and so is Sergeant 11."
