~Lavender Evans POV~
It's the third day of break (I think) and not too much has happened so far.
Our parents left last night for their trip but they'll be back before we leave to go back to school.
It's a little before 10 AM. What else would I be doing other then reading on the living room couch?
Lily was upstairs showering and Petunia was in the kitchen deciding what she was gonna eat for breakfast. Pretty normal for us if I can say so myself.
Well, it was, til there was a knock on the door.
"Lav, do you mind getting that?" Tuney asked
"Yep" I said as I stood up and walked over to the door, slowly opening it.
"Ah, just the Evans I wanted to see" He said as I opened the door.
"What do you want Thompson?" I asked.
Yeah, Thompson. Well, his names actually Eric, but his last names Thompson.
He's sort of satans spawn.
This is coming from a natural born red head.
He's just a raging misogynist, but he also has everything handed to him and has his whole life, so he just is a little entitled.
"You, grab your skates, we're going to the lake, one on one" He said.
Yeah, all of us neighborhood kids grew up playing hockey together.
I always only played because they needed an extra player and Lils and Tuney always immediately decline.
"C'mon Evans, you're not scared you'll lose are you?" He said
"Fine, I guess I have time to hand your ass to you" I said checking my watch before I walked to the closet, grabbed my skates and followed him out the door.
"So what's boarding school even like?" He asked
"You ask this every year" I said
"I know, your answer can change" He said
"It's fine, I mean, it's sort of just like normal school, just you live with three other people your age" I said
"You're telling me you don't have massive parties?" He said
"No, they're thrown, I just don't go" I said
Thats honestly a good point.
I've never gone to a party at Hogwarts, no matter how much Rems tried to convince me.
A minute later we made it to the lake and slipped our skates on.
"First to ten goals like always?" He asked, I nodded.
"You haven't been on the ice for over a year Evans, this'll be an easy win for me" He said
"You realize you're the only person who can't come right back and play as good as they could a year before, right?" I said as we skated out to the middle of the lake.
"Guess you'll just see when I win, now, let's do this Lily" He said
"I'm Lavender" I said
"I know, I just also know how to get in your head" He said
"If you knew how to get in my head, you'd know that that doesn't work anymore" I said before I took the puck out from under his stick and started to skate away.
Yeah, I've gotten pretty good at beating Thompson. I can almost guarantee I'll win.
~Remus Lupins POV~
Yeah, over break we all spend it at the Potters.
My family isn't big on me being home because my furry incident.
Sirius doesn't go to his house period (which I'm grateful for)
And Peters parents are always on some sort of vacation.
"Whatcha doing?" Sirius asked
"Writing a letter to Lavender, I had her start reading a book and I want to see how she likes it" I said
"Wait, hold on, you have their address?" James asked
"Yeah, why?" I asked
"Well, Lily said at one point that her parents would be away over break, are you guys thinking what I'm thinking?" He asked
"Are you saying we pay a nice visit to our favorite set of twins?" Sirius asked
"Yup" James said, all of us looked at each other.
That was a mutual agreement.
"Mum, we'll be back in a little while" James yelled before we walked out the door.
Well, Lavender will kill me but she'll get over it.
~Lily Evans POV~
"So I'm not sure what we're up to tonight, I have dance from 3-4:30, then I'm home, so we could try to figure out something to make for dinner for the three of us, or we could all just figure something out like we usually do" Tuney said as there was a knock on the door.
"I got it" I said
I walked over and opened the door, and much to my dismay, this happened.
"Hey Petals" Sirius said
"Miss us?" Potter said
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked
"What, we can't come visit our favorite twins?" Potter asked
"How bored were you guys to do this?" I asked
"Extremely" Remus said.
"Okay, whatever, come in" I said.
I shut the door behind them and followed them in.
"Petunia, this is Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter, this is my sister Petunia" I said
"Ah, the last Evans" Sirius said
"Yeah" I said
We sat and talked for a few minutes before the insanely obvious was pointed out.
"Wait, wheres Lavender? Is she just hiding upstairs or something?" Remus asked
"Thats a good question actually" I said
"Hey Lav?" I yelled, Petunia popped around the corner.
"Whats his face stopped by, they went down to the lake" She said
"Who?" I asked
"I forget his name, the weird kid who always from down the street" She said
"Thompson?" I asked
"Yeah" She said
"Ew, that kids a menace, why'd she do that?" I asked
"She was bored" She said as she shrugged her shoulders.
"Can you go grab her?" I asked
"Yeah I have self respect, I'm not going anywhere near that kid" She said
"Okay, I guess I'll be back in a minute then, please don't make anything explode, and no pranks" I said before I walked out.
Luckily the lakes not far.
~Lavender Evans POV~
Hockey can be such a high, especially once e comfortable in your skills, and skates obviously.
I made my way across the lakes with the puck before I skidded to a stop, shooting the puck.
It just barley made it past Thompson and into the goal post.
"And that would be ten" I said
"Fuck Evans" He said
"When will you just accept I'm better then you at hockey?" I asked
"I won't, cause you're not" He said
"My god" I muttered under my breath.
"Is that your sister?" He asked, I turned to Lily frantically waving me over.
"Yeah" I said before I skated over.
"What's up?" I asked
"I came to save you, anyways, did you just beat Thompson?" She asked
"Yeah" I said
"Oh my god Lav, you're serious?" She asked, I nodded.
"Why aren't you making a big deal out of this, it's the first time you beat Thompson" She said, I just shrugged it off as I finished changing my shoes, no need to burst her bubble.
We started walking back to the house as she went on an excited rant about how I somehow managed to beat Thompson.
She cooled down about it close to the end of the walk though.
"Lav beat Thompson" Lily said as we walked into the house.
"Oh my, I always beat Thompson, just his tiny dick syndrome doesn't let him admit it" I said as I pulled off my sweatshirt and hung it on the coat hanger.
But much to my dismay, all the Marauders were sitting in my living room, staring at me with amused looks.
"I'm gonna go get changed" I said before I walked upstairs, ignoring what Lily said.
No, I wasn't really changing, just why wouldn't that happen to me.
A second later my door opened.
"You, are something else" Rem said
"How much did I just horrify myself?" I asked
"Peter was hiding his laughter, James is 100% gonna give you a fist bump when we get back down there, and I think Sirius just fell in love with you" He said
"Why the fuck didn't I check first if someone was here" I said as I flopped backwards onto my bed.
"You wouldn't have known we were coming anyways, we just showed up" He said
"Ugh I'm never coming back from this" I said as I buried my face in my pillow.
"Okay, and five, four, three, two, one" Rem said
"What are you counting to?" I asked.
"This" He said before he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.
"Rem what the hell?" I said
"I know you, this is the only way to get you downstairs anytime soon" He said as he started walking downstairs.
"Rem I swear-" I started
"You don't scare me Lav, I could take you in a fight" He said
"I doubt that" I said
"Whatever you can fight me later" He said with a laugh as he set me down on the couch.
"And she'll win cause you can't hit her back" Lily said
"True" He said
"Eh, even if you could I'd still win" I said
"Okay Lav" He said with a laugh.
"So, Evans, any other secrets I should know about?" Sirius said.
"Give her a sec, she's horrified" Rem joked
"Go fuck yourself Lupin" I said
"Okay, wait, the obvious question, you beat Thompson?" Tuney said
"Why is this so shocking" I asked
"Thompson always just brags about winning" She said
"I'll just put it this way, I think he's beat me once, and that's when I had pneumonia" I said
"Lav why didn't you tell us" Lily asked
"Because it's Thompson, it wasn't worth the trouble" I said
"So you let us believe that you were less then you are for years just because Thompson's difficult" Lily said
"No, I did it cause Thompson's not worth my time" I said as the door opened
Ironically, Thompson peaked his head in.
"Speak of the devil" Tuney said under her breath.
"Lavender, a word?" He asked
"Why are you here Thompson?" Lily asked
"It's fine, I'll be right back" I said before I stood up and grabbed my sweatshirt off the rack and followed him out the door.
~Lily Evans POV~
"We sure she's good with that?" Tuney asked as the door shut.
"Yeah, she can take Thompson" I said
"So what's so special about this kid" Sirius asked
"Nothing, he's just a jackass whos though he's better then Lav her whole life" I said
"If she knows he's not then why are you worried" He said
"...Shit Sirius stop making good points" I said
"Hey, it's allowed to happen from time to time" He said.
Yeah, Marlene and I are absolutely right, he totally likes her.
~Lavender Evans POV~
"Whats up Thompson?" I asked as we walked a little ways from the house.
"You know you can call me Eric right? It is my name" He said
"You're just Thompson, always have been" I said
"I tried" He said
"Anyways, what's up?" I asked
"I have to tell you something I've been meaning to tell you for a while" He said
"Okay" I said
"So I'm just gonna talk, and get it all out so you can hear all of it, just, wait to talk til I tell you to so you can hear everything I have to say" He said
"Okay" I said
"So, um, okay, there's no good way to say this. I was gonna talk to you earlier but Lily showed up. Um" He said
Safe to say I'm confused.
This is Eric Thompson, he doesn't just talk to people.
While he stuttered over his words for a second before he finally spoke.
"I know I've been an ass to you, well, forever, but I promise I don't just do it to do it. It took a lot of time for me to realize, but I realized it's because I have feelings for you." He said.
What?
This is the Eric Thompson I've known since I was five right? No, this can't be.
"I know your confused and I don't expect you to answer anything right now, just I've liked you for a while and realized that I've handled my feelings stupidly and need to handle them better, so I'm trying, so yeah, that's it" He said
I just stood there for a second. He has to be joking. I mean, this is Eric Thompson, he has to be joking.
"You can talk now" He said with a laugh
"Eric I'm sorry" I said
"Oh, um, it's no big deal, I just wanted to let you know" He said.
Seriously, this has to be a joke, right?
"I'll see you later Thompson" I said as I turned and started to walk back to the door.
That didn't last long though, he grabbed my wrist and spun me around.
"Can I just see something?" He asked, before I could comprehend what was going on, his lips were on mine.
As soon as I realized what was happening, I pulled away.
Okay maybe it's not a joke.
He just looked back at me for a second. What do you even do in this situation?
Well, not what I did for sure because I just turned around and walked away.
Social anxiety for the win.
When I got inside I shut and locked the door behind me.
"What was up with Thompson?" Lily asked, I just walked over and grabbed her hand, pulling her to the kitchen behind me.
"Do we need to hide a body? What happened?" She asked.
"Okay, so I'm still in the right world, right? This is the world where we've lived here our whole lives, James Potter is hopelessly in love with you, our mom owns a bakery, our dad works at an insurance firm, those four boys out there call themselves the Marauders, Tuneys still pining after that horrific Vernon kid" I said
"Yeah, Lav what happened?" She asked
"If this is still that world, then where am I living if Eric Thompson just admitted he has feelings for me" I said
"He what?" She yelled
"Shhh, the guys are gonna be nosy I don't feel like dealing with it" I said
"Eric fucking Thompson did what?" She said in a whisper yell.
"Like I said, what world are we in?" I asked
"What the hell happened?" Tuney asked as she walked in.
"Thompson has feelings for her" Lily said
"He what?" Tuney said
"What did you say?" Lily asked
"I just told him I didn't feel the same, cause I don't, cause he's Thompson, cause he's a dick, cause I thought he was joking, and then I went to leave" I said
"Wait, I thought he was joking, Lav, what else happened?" She said
"God don't make me think about that" I said
"Do we need to hide a body?" Tuney asked
"No, I already covered that" Lily said
"Okay, then what happened?" Tuney asked
"He kissed me" I mumbled
"What?" Lily asked
"He kissed me" I said
"He what?" Lily yelled
"I'm out of here" Tuney said as she walked out of the kitchen.
"Lav, your first kiss was Thompson" Lily said in a whisper.
"Please don't remind me" I said
"Did he even give you any warning?" She asked
"No, I just went to walk away and all of a sudden he kissed me" I said
"Are we talking about the same Thompson?" She asked
"Apparently" I said
"Well what did you do?" She asked
"Nothing, I turned around and walked away, what do you even do in that situation?" I said
"Fair point-" She started, getting cut off by laughter.
"Ugh, Potter, Black" She said, after a second they came around the corner.
"How'd I know" She said
"I'm sorry bean, I swear we weren't eavesdropping, except we totally were, thats just the most you thing ever" James said
"Well what would you have done Potter?" I asked
"You know what, fair, there's no good reaction for that moment" He said
"Petals, mind if I have a word with your sister?" Sirius asked, oh dear lord.
"You good?" Lily asked, I nodded, with that her and James walked away.
"I don't think I've ever seen her peacefully acknowledge his existence" I said
"Yeah, that very rarely happens" Sirius said
I don't know what's coming, but it's Sirius Black, this is gonna be interesting.
"So if I was totally not eavesdropping correctly, you just had your first kiss with a kid named Eric, that's rough" He said
"God don't remind me" I said, he let out a quiet laugh.
"Don't sweat it, we all have bad first kiss stories, Marlene had to help me get over mine" He said
"Oh you don't know Eric Thompson" I said
"I don't have to" He said
"So what happened?" He asked after a minute.
"It's a long story" I said
"Can't be worse then mine" He said
"Let's hear it then" I said
"Oh dear lord how do I explain this" He said
"Okay, I'm gonna be vague, that's the only way to do this" He said
"Okay" I said with a laugh.
"It was uh the beginning of this year, and both a close friend of mine and I had never had our first kisses, so we decided to help each other out, and um, yeah" He said
"Well that's not really that bad" I said
"Well, yeah the situation isn't that bad, yours isn't either when you look at it, everyone just looks back at the person and that's what makes them cringe" He said
"I guess your right, wait, you said Marlene helped you out with your first kiss, is she really that bad?" I asked with a laugh
"Oh, yeah, um, Marlene, totally Marlene" He said
"...Wait, you said it was this year, and it was both of your first kisses, Marlenes first kiss was last year with the guy in Hufflepuff, it wasn't Marlene" I said, he gave me a confused look.
"Sorry, I remember everything" I said
"No, it's not that, I just can't believe I'm about to say this openly" He said, he went quiet for a minute.
A second later he said something in a mumble.
"Wait, I'm sorry, is the Sirius Black actually embarrassed of something?" I joked
"Oi, shut it Evans, I'm doing this for you" He said with a laugh.
"Fuck it, it was Potter" He said after a minute.
"It was Potter? What do you... oh my god your first kiss was Potter" I said in a whisper.
"Yeah, and if you tell anyone I'll kill you" He said
"I won't" I said with a laugh.
"Now, this is where the Marlene part comes into play" He said
"Oh dear lord" I said
"No, god no, not like that, well sort of like that, but not in the way you think" He said
"You lost me" I said
"Marlene realized James and I acting weird, and talked to me later that night, I was extremely vague with her, and she told me a, rule I guess, that within the first 24 hours of your first kiss, if you kiss someone else, it changes who your first kiss is" He said
"So you're telling me Marlene is your claimed to be first kiss" I said
"Yeah, I'm 90% sure she came up with it now that I look back on it" He said
"Probably, that's very Marlene" I said
"Yeah, anyways I just wanted to let you know you have an option, it helped me out at least" He said
"You saying you wanna kiss me Black?" I joked.
"Sorry, I had to, it was too easy" I said
"The first time I really talked to you, I told you you could do me, I think the answer to that questions obvious Evans" He said
"You know I had to make you blush at least once during this conversation, but you know by now I wouldn't do anything unless I'm 100% sure you're okay with it Evans" He said
"I know" I said
"Just wanted to let you know you have the option" He said as he started to walk out of the kitchen.
Now see, I had to ignore every alarm going off in my brain to do this, but I had to do it for one reason, I can't let myself deal with the thought of Eric Thompson my whole life.
"Do it" I said, he turned.
"You sure?" He asked, I nodded.
"You're bold today, I like it" He said before he walked over, and gently grabbed my face before quickly pressing his lips to mine.
When you look at Sirius Black, he seems like a being who runs off hunger and desire. I'll admit it, I've always profiled him as that.
But I was wrong, he was slow, gentle, almost seemed like he was cautious of each move he made.
After a second he slowly pulled his lips away from mine.
"Now you don't have to deal with your first kiss being a dick named Thompson" He said before he shot me a quick wink and walked out of the kitchen.
What- what just happened?
I looked over at the clock and saw the time, almost 3:15, I did have to actually go get ready.
After I sat for long enough to pray the red on my cheeks faded away, I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room.
I went to walk towards the stairs but Lily cut me off.
"Where you going Lav?" She asked
"I have work" I said
"Today?" She said
"Yeah, Tuesday's and Fridays at 4 PM" I said
"Shit, it's already Tuesday?" She said
"Yeah" I said with a laugh before I went upstairs.
As I got into my room, I changed into a pair of leggings, and the wind-breaker I always wear at practice.
I should probably explain, I grew up playing on a hockey team, but had to quit when I got my Hogwarts letter.
I always have a job at the skating rink, just because I love being on the ice if you can't tell, but I also help coach said team when I'm on breaks from school, and it's honestly great.
My parents always signed up Lily and Petunia for dance, but signed me up for hockey. My dad sort of wanted a son if it's not obvious.
I made my way back downstairs after I finished getting dressed to be stopped by Lily.
"So what time will you be back around?" She asked
"Like, 5:30, 5:45ish" I said.
"Okay, be safe, no dumb things" She said
"No promises" I said as I walked out the door, shutting it behind me.
The rink is only about a 15 minute walk, so it's not far from the house.
I got to the rink and made sure everything was in place for practice before I went out and started skating around the ice.
Coaching a team full of guys your age can be difficult, especially if you used to be their teammate, but I think I've finally gotten the hang of it.
~Sirius Blacks POV~
Well, that was certainly a new way to make Lavender blush.
Here's the thing, I know that that rule is completely false, I know Marlene said that because she liked me at the time, but it really did help me to hear.
I just didn't expect Lavender to comply, I'm extremely glad she did though.
"So what does she even do for work?" Remus asked
"Oh, well she works at the skating rink down the street, but she also coaches a league" Lily said
"Yeah our dad really wanted at least a son" Petunia said
"Stop, I hate it when you bring this up" Lily said
"You hate it cause you pity her, we both know the thing Lav hates most is pity" Petunia said
"Wait, what are you guys talking about?" James asked.
We're all thinking it.
"I'm not wording it like this to be rude, I'm wording it like this cause it's how it is, Lavs always fallen through the cracks, for some reason, our parents think it's her fault that they've shown her less love, she just does whatever she can to make them happy" Petunia said
"But you're also pushing past the part that she's always loved hockey, she's herself when she's on the ice, she loves it, she says it feels like she can breathe, that's not to please mom and dad, and you're being dramatic, they don't show her less love" Lily said
"They do, you just choose not to acknowledge it" Petunia said
"If they do then give me an example to prove your not going on about nothing" Lily said.
"You had a dance competition the same day she had a game, even though her game was at 4 and you went on at 11, they could've easily made it back in time, they skipped her game being aware it was the championship game, she won it for her team, she was the only one there to not have family to congratulate them" Petunia said
"That was one time" Lily said
"That one time that all three of us got strep throat and we only got two bottles of medication instead of three, and without missing a beat mom and dad gave the medication to you and me even though she was the sickest, she had to sit for two more days with no medication" Petunia said
"But still-" Lily started
"How often did they accidentally forget to pick her up from somewhere?" Petunia said, Lily stayed quiet.
"Plus the fact that we're both older then her, and they forced her to juggle finding a way to get her muggle drivers license while having a job and keeping up with her summer studies" Petunia said.
"Holy shit she's even invisible here, she's invisible to me half the time, what the fuck" Lily said
"And the poor girl just got forced to kiss Thompson" Petunia joked.
"Yeah, what did you two even talk about" Remus whispered to me.
"Oh, uh, nothing" I said
"Oh god, please tell me you didnt try to make her as flustered as humanly possible right now" He said
"No, I didn't, I have good timing" I said
"Okay" He said.
Honestly, hearing all of this makes me understand Lavender even more.
She never speaks up because she truly thinks no one wants to listen or would listen if she tried.
It's the exact same reason why she can read everyone so well because from what it seems like she's walking on eggshells at home, which I get.
Lavender just radiates such an energy, she draws people to her, I don't get how she slipped through the cracks if Lily didn't.
Cause no offense to James, but Lavenders a lot more interesting then Lily.
That could just be cause I've known Lily longer though.
