"WHAT DOES SUEÑITO MEAN?" CATTLEYA QUESTIONED. HER, MIGGY, ROSA, AND SEDO STOOD ACROSS USNAVI'S BARTENDING AREA, WITH CURIOUS EYES.

"Sueñito? It means little dream." Usnavi answered. "That's it?!? No story?" Sedo further questioned, clearly not satisfied with the answer. "Can we go in the water now?" Miggy spoke up.

Cattleya turned around to her group of friends. "Let him explain." Cattleya said.
She then turn back around to the older man in front of her.

"All right. All right. Everybody sit down, sit down." Usnavi instructed. Suddenly the children clamors in yeahs and yays
as they all sat down at colorful boxes
near them.

"All right. It's a story of a block that was disappearing." Usnavi began. The kids
shares a look of interest. "Once upon
a time in a far away land called Nueva
York, en un barrio called Washington Heights." Usnavi continues.

"Say it, so it doesn't disappear." Usnavi instructs. "Washington Heights!" The children simultaneously respond.

"All right, all right, Oye, Oye, Oye." He said over the kids giggles. "The streets were made of music." Usnavi concludes before making a rhythmic beat on the bench he's sitting on. Enjoyment and curiosity spreads on the all children's faces specifically Cattleya.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Usnavi laid flat on his back sleeping
while Sloane, rests her head on his chest, sleeping as well. With both of their Legs and arms intertwining with each other.
Sloane moved out of Usnavi grasp and faces the wall mostly in irritation of the alarm clock. This cause Usnavi to adjust his position and lay on his stomach.

"Amor, apaga esa bulla." Sloane mutter
in Spanish.

Usnavi only groans, reaching over and turning off his beeping alarm clock that
is busy disturbing him and his girlfriend sleep. Usnavi simply grunts sleepily and then sighing heavily while staying in the same position.

Hearing movement behind her, Sloane opens her eyes and then peaks over at
her boyfriend who was now half awake and sitting up at the side of their small bed. Usnavi stares at the wall infront of him specifically the old pictures of his childhood.

"Hey pop." Usnavi drowsily greets. He stares at one photo at a time with many
of the memories flooding into his head. "Best days of my life." Usnavi adds.

An awake Sloane, sits up on her knees before crawling towards her boyfriend and loosely wrap her hands around his neck with her chin settling on his left shoulder.

Realizing she's awake, Usnavi glances
at the girl who gave him her one of her usual toothy grin, which forms a small small smile on his face. "Ohhhh wow. I thought your best days were with me." Sloane teased. Usnavi playfully sucked
his teeth before giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Sloa, you know what I meant." Usnavi chuckle.

Sloane giggles intensified as he adds
more kisses to her cheek. Usnavi was about to go for her naturally pouty lips but Sloane quickly backs away.

"Aht. Aht. I got morning breath and so
do you. So now c'mon, let's get our day started." Sloane instructs. Usnavi smiles at Sloane's leadership skills shining out. "Fine." He complies as they both got out the small bed.

After finishing their morning routine
and changed out of their pajamas into more casual clothes. The couple walks down the hallway towards their Abuela Claudia sewing a cloth.

Sloane helps Usnavi adjust his sweater
as they walk closer to her. "Bendicion, Abuela." The two simultaneously greet.
Usnavi kisses the elderly woman head then Sloane gives her a comforting hug before pulling away.

"Bendicion and oh don't forget to take your medicine okay!" Sloane reminds
as Usnavi grabs her hand. "Que dios
te bendiga." Abeula Claudia replies
with a warm smile. "Love you." The couple warmly calls out to her.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"Don't you got work today?" Usnavi questioned as they walk down the door steps of the apartment. Sloane nodded before responding. "Yeah but my shifts are in the afternoon making me free this morning." Sloane jumps over the waist height black gate.

Usnavi instead uses old fashion style
and opens the black gate then closes
the black gate. Making him earn the snickers of his girlfriend to whom he playfully rolls his eyes at.

"Okay Grandpa." Sloane jokes. As she bops her head to the neighbor creating
a musical sound with his hose. "Better safe than sorry." Usnavi replies as he jangles his house keys adding onto the sound. Usnavi stop walking when he felt that he stepped on something sticky.

Sloane stop walking as well in curiosity
of why Usnavi stopped. "What is it? Oh shit." She chuckle, seeing that when he
lifted up his timbs. It was gum.

The children laughs at this part as well causing Usnavi to playfully rolls his eyes at them while shaking his head.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Lights up on Washington Heights, up
at the break of day-❞ As the two are crossing the street. Sloane takes notice that ahead of them, Pete is once again spraying painting on the bodega. "Yo, What are you doing bro!" Usnavi's walk turns into a jog with Sloane following close behind him.

Sloane lazily rolls her eyes at the sight
of Pete running away from the two. ❝I wake up and I got this little punk I gotta chase away. Pop the grate at the crack
of dawn. Sing whileIwipedown the awning.❞ "Hey y'all, good morning." Usnavi greeted.

Mr. Piragüero who is strolling by, rings
his cart bell. Earning the attention of the couple. "Ice cold piragua! Parcha. China. Cherry. Strawberry. And just for today,
I got mamey!" Mr. Piragüero calls.

"Oye, piragüero, como estas?" Usnavi greeted. The men firmly shook hands.
"Como siempre, Señor Usnavi y Senora Sloane." Mr. Piragüero replied. Sloane sends him a wave in return. "Ice cold piragua! Parcha..." Piragüero repeats
as he continues to stroll with his cart.

Usnavi and Sloane walks into bodega
that suddenly brightens up once they walk in. ❝I am Usnavi and you prob'ly never heard my name. Reports of my fame are greatly exaggerated.❞ And
Usnavi swiftly hops over the counter.
"Show off." Sloane joked, as she walks towards the counter watching Usnavi, whose on the other side.

Exacerbated by the fact that my
syntax is highly complicated 'cause
I immigrated from the single greatest little place in the Caribbean: Dominican Republic! I love it! Jesus, I'm jealous of
it, and beyond that. Ever since my folks passed on, I haven't gone back.

"God damn, I gotta get on that." Usnavi remarks. As soon as Usnavi opened the small fridge, even from far away Sloane caught a smell of that bad air.

Fo! The milk has gone bad, hold up
just a second. Why is everything in that fridge warm and tepid? Navi, baby, you better step it up and fight the heat. Cuz
your not makin' any profit if the coffee isn't light and sweet!

"I-I know, Sloa, but what should I do?" Usnavi asked, as he pours the bad milk down the drain. As if knowing a conflict was happening in there, Abuela Claudia fortunately walked into the bodega just
in time.

Sloane turns around and smiles at the wise elderly woman. "Ooo-oo!" Abuela greets. "Abuela, my fridge broke. I got café but no con leche." Usnavi explains.

"Ay Dios, try my mother's old recipe:
one can of condensed milk." Abuela Claudia advised. "Nice. Oh wait, your lottery ticket." Usnavi replied before handing the elderly woman the ticket.

Abeula kissed the ticket and then raised
it up to the air. "Paciencia y fe." Abeula Claudia praise. This cause chuckles to come from the couple. As Abeula walks away. ❝That was Abuela, she's not really Navi or my abuela, But she practically raised us, this corner is her escuela.

Sloane begins to walk outside to take
off the brown cloth off all the produces with Usnavi.

Now, you're probably thinkin: "Him and I are up shit's creek!❞ A woman comes up to them with a tablet in both
of her hands. ❝I've never been north
of Ninety Sixth Street!

Well, you must take the A Train-❞ Usnavi winks at Sloane, who giggles at
him. ❝Even farther than Harlem, to northern Manhattan, and maintain. Get off at 181st, and take the escalator.❞

"I hope you're writing this down, I'm gonna test ya later." Usnavi playfully informs to four children, who laugh
in response.

We're getting tested; times are tough
on this bodega.❞ Sloane point up to the store across from them. ❝Two months ago somebody bought Ortega's.❞

Usnavi and Sloane begin to uncover the produce stands from the brown cloths.
Our neighbors started packin' up and pickin' up and ever since the rents went up. It's gotten mad expensive, but we
live with just enough.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In the heights. I flip the lights
and start my day. There are
fights-.

Endless debts.

And bills to pay.

In the Heights, I can't survive
without café.

I serve café.

'Cause tonight seems like a
million years away! In
Washington-

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Next up, ding! Kevin Rosario. He
runs the cab company, he struggles
in the barrio.❞ Sloane leans her back against the counter with Usnavi being behind the counter standing. ❝See, his daughter Nina's off at college, tuition is mad steep. So he can't sleep; everything
he gets is mad cheap!

Kevin Rosario walks into the bodega
with a lottery ticket and a twenty dollar. ❝Good morning, Sloane and Usnavi!❞ Sloane smiles, and waves at the joyful man. ❝Pan caliente, café con leche!❞ Usnavi puts the meal in a brown bag.

Put twenty dollars on today's lottery.❞ Kevin simply hands Usnavi the lottery ticket and the twenty dollars. ❝Okay, must be a lucky day.❞ Usnavi was a
bit surprised by the amount but still
took it. ❝Gotta be!

Oh my God, you're so excited.❞ Sloane simply notice as Kevin grabs the brown bag. ❝My Nina flew in at 3 A.M. last night!❞ A smile spreads across Sloane's face knowing that her Best-friend was
now back home. ❝Sweet, Abuela's been cooking all week!

Compay, when I see you this
weekend-

-Are we gonna eat!❞ Sloane chuckle
at the men antics.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

So then Yesenia walks in the room.❞ Daniela, Carla and Cuca were outside walking towards the bodega. ❝Aha.❞ Carla simply hums. ❝She smells sex
and cheap perfume!

"Ooh! Ooh!" Carla hums. ❝It smells
like one of those trees. That you hang from the rear view!❞ "Ai, no!" Carla
said. All of the three ladies walk into
the bodega. ❝It's true! She screams, "Who's in there with you, Julio?"

Daniela!

Grabs a bat and kicks in the door.

Carla

He's in bed with José from the liquor store!❞ Sloane let out a small gasp in shock. Though she always had a small feeling that Julio and José have a thing
for each other. No me diga!

"And that's Cuca, the salon ladies." Usnavi said.

"Thanks, Usnavi!" All three of the salon ladies thanks. Sloane notice the hint of flirtation that Cuca had. Her suspicion were confirmed when Cuca seductively puts on her sunglasses for Usnavi, who stood there not thinking much of it.

Cuca seductively growl at him. "Adios Papi." Cuca said before walking away. Sloane finally let out the laughter that
she was holding in. Of course she was
not mad or jealous, since a lot girls are gonna think Usnavi is attractive which she can see why. But Sloane knows that Usnavi is going to always stay true and loyal to her, and vice versa, when other men flirt with Sloane. To which Sloane doesn't even entertain.

"aDiOs PaPi!" Sloane tease, earning a chuckle from Usnavi. Sonny suddenly walks in from the back door. "Sonny, you're late." Usnavi scold. "Yeah what
is your excuse this time kid?" Sloane rhetorically asked. "Chillax, you guys know you love me." Sonny tosses his
bag over the counter, to which Sloane quickly dodged.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Sloane helps Sonny drag the green
crates full of food cans. ❝Me and my cousin runnin' just another dime-a-
dozen mom-and-pop stop-and-shop. ❞ Sloane hands Usnavi the white tagging gun. And he uses the white tagging gun
to put staple the price tags on the cans
that Sonny has in his hands. ❝And, oh my god, it's gotten too darn hot.

Like my man-❞ Before stapling a
price tag on Sonny's forehead. Sloane stifled a laugh while Sonny rolls his eyes in annoyances and taking the price tag
off his forehead.

Cole Porter said people come through for a few cold waters-❞ At a pattern
of only one at a time, Sonny and Sloane throw food cans at Usnavi, to which he would catch and staple a price tag on it. Before putting it on the stacks of food cans on the shelf in front of him.

And a lottery ticket, just a part of
the routine. Every body's got a job, everybody's got a dream. They gossip,
as I sip my coffee and smirk.

The first stop as people hop to work,
bust it- I'm like: "One dollar, two dollars, one fifty, one sixty-nine. I got
it. You want a box of condoms? What kind? That's two quarters. Two quarter waters, the New York Times. You need
a bag for that? The tax is added. Once you get some practice at it. You do rapid mathematics automatically sellin' maxi-pads, fuzzy dice for taxicabs, Practically everybody's stressed, yes, but they press through the mess, bounce checks and wonder what's next.

In the heights. I buy my coffee
and I go.

I buy my coffee and I go.

Set my sights on only what I
need to know!

What I need to know.

In the heights! Money is tight
but even so!

Even so when the lights go
down I blast my radio!

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

You ain't got no skills!❞ Benny walks into the bodega. Sloane did not notice
due to her being too busy tending to a customer in the back. ❝Benny!

Yo, lemme get a-❞ Usnavi tosses the chocolate candy bar, knowing what his longtime friend wants. ❝Milky Way.
Yup, and lemme also get a-❞ Sonny walks up to Benny, settling the paper
on Benny's shoulder. ❝Daily News.❞
To which Benny grabs. ❝And a-

Usnavi settles the other newspapers
on Benny's other shoulder. ❝Post.

To which Benny grabs. ❝And the most important, my-❞ Sonny goes behind Usnavi. He pours the milk and sugar in the cup in front of his cousin. ❝Boss' second coffee, one cream-

Five sugars!

I'm the number one earner!

What?!

The fastest learner!

What?!

My boss can't keep me on the damn back burner!

"Yes, he can." Usnavi spoke.

I'm makin' moves, I'm makin' deals,
but guess what?

What?

You still ain't got no skills!

Hardee-har!

Yo, Did you pop the big question to Sloane yet?

Shush! Shut up! She's in the back so
don't be so loud!

Hey little homie, don't get so upset.

"Man..." Usnavi muttered.

Tell Sloane how you feel, buy the girl
a ring and you kneel on the real, or you ain't got no skills.

"Oh wassup Benny!" Sloane greet as
she walk towards the three boys at the front. But before Benny could answer
her, a distress Vanessa could be heard from outside. ❝Nooo! No no nooo! No
no nooo, no-no-no! Nooo, no-no-no!
No-no-no-no-no-no-no-no, no-no-no-
no-no!

Vanessa walks into the bodega with her phone in her hand, in a call with some one important. Vanessa walks further
into the bodega. Sloane know that this has to do with the apartment that her Bestfriend been longing to want.

In concern she walks beside Vanessa.
"Apartment?" Sloane mouths. Vanessa quickly nods in anxiety. ❝Mr. Johnson,
I got the security deposit, It's locked in
a box in the bottom of my closet. It's not reflected in my bank statement.

Unbeknownst to Sloane and Vanessa,
the boys were following them around.
But I've been savin' to make a down payment and pay rent. No, no, I won't
let you down.❞ Vanessa opens up the beverage fridge before walking away.

Yo, here's your chance ask her out for dinner right now!❞ Sloane closes the fridge, still following behind Vanessa. ❝I'll see you later, we can look at that lease!

Vanessa hangs up the phone in despair.
"I-Is everything okay?" Sloane inquired
but by the sadness wash over Vanessa face. Sloane knew that her Best friend wasn't okay. "I don't know, not really." Vanessa reply. "Cmon V, don't give up!
I am so sure that you will get the dream apartment and won't lose your current one." Sloane encourage.

"I hope so." Vanessa deeply sigh before walking away from Sloane, who is left feeling very sympathetic for her. But
the moment was really cut short when Benny purposely knock over a box on
one of the shelves. ❝Yo, do somethin', make your move, don't freeze!❞ The
box successfully earned the attention
of Sloane.

Sloane crouch down looking through
the open space on shelf where the box
was push out of. ❝Hey!❞ Usnavi wave
at her on the other side. ❝You owe me
a bottle of cold champagne!❞ A smirk suddenly appear on Sloane face. When she remind Usnavi about the stupid bet they made last week about if Vanessa
was moving or not.

If she was, then Usnavi owe Sloane
cold champagne and free coffee. And
if she wasn't, Sloane owe Usnavi cold champagne and a kiss. He then walks over to Sloane. ❝Is she moving?

Just a little credit check and she's on
that downtown train!❞ Usnavi grabs a cup of coffee that Sonny slid to him on
the empty shelf but not without tossing the small rose on top of it. ❝Well, your coffee's on the house.❞ Usnavi hands a happy Sloane, the coffee to which she accepts. ❝Okay!

Usnavi ask her out!❞ Usnavi simply
rolls his eyes at the advice from Benny. ❝No way..❞ And mentally rolls his eyes
at the discourage from Sonny.

"I have to get to the sight that I want my dance studio to be in." Sloane inform, as she waves at the boys behind him. ❝I'll see you later, so..❞ Sloane got on tippy toes and then kiss his forehead before walking away.

The second she walked out the bodega. Benny releases his fit of laughs. ❝Yo, smooth operator, aw, damn, there she goes!❞ Usnavi begins walking forward with Benny trailing behind him having
his hands on Usnavi shoulders.

Yo, bro, take five, take a walk outside!
You look exhausted, lost -❞ Benny then walks off to collect all his items from the counter to which Sonny puts in a yellow plastic bag.

❝-Don't let life slide! The whole hood
is struggling, times is tight and you're stuck to this corner like a streetlight!❞ Benny walks out the bodega with the
bag in his hand.

USNAVI ALREADY THOUGHT
OF A PERFECT WAY TO PROPOSE TO SLOANE. AND TO HIM, THAT WAS GOING TO BE IN HIS HOME IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

angie's notes
hello, welcome to my in the heights.
some key notes are that if the words
are only underlined that means sloane
is singing by just herself. if the words
are italicized and underline at the same time that means sloane is singing with
the respective characters. for example
for the "no me diga" part; sloane was singing in unison with usnavi, daniella, carla and cuca. also means that if the
bold words are underlined then sloane
is singing with the ensemble (which is meaning that bold words by themselves are the ensemble singing alone) another thing is that if the words are italicized that means the respective character is singing their respective part. i know this probably a lot but you guys will get the hang of it and also if you seen the movie then should know whose singing and
who is not, without me typing "Benny sang or Sloane sings."
