*Jake POV*
"Whelp, I'm tired." Natsuki says, plopping down next to me, in the living room
"Told you, not exactly used to work, are you?" I ask
"Shut. Not now." She puts a finger to my lips
"You work as a cashier, you just stand there, talk, and take money." I state
"You have no idea how many times someone thought I was a child and that my parents owned the shop. Did have a fun time telling them that I'm actually an adult." She says
"I can already imagine their faces."
My phone starts ringing.
"Who's calling?" Natsuki sits up straight
"No idea, haven't checked the contact yet." I pick up my phone
I look at my phone and see that the contact isn't one in my phone. It's just a phone number.
"Hello?" I answer
"Jake? Hey man, its Shawn. New number."
"Oh! Shawn, hey man, what's up?" I ask
"I uh, got a package for you. It's in you're name, did you order something and send it here by accident?" He asks
"I haven't, my address is registered on my account." I state
"Huh. You want me to open it?"
"Not yet, let me head over there to see for myself."
"Alright, see you soon."
I hang up.
"So, what does Shawn have for us?" Natsuki asks
"A package. Did you order something and send it to Shawn's work?" I ask, knowing she uses my account for ordering stuff
"Nope. I haven't even ordered anything since the Parfait Girls figurine." She says
Oh yeah, the Parfait Girls figurine... I bought countless for her and apparently she found one she doesn't have, bought it with my card, and put me two hundred down the drain. But that was at least two months ago.
"Well, he somehow got one and its in my name. I'm heading over there to check it out, you wanna come?" I offer
"Definitely! Lets see what box number one has for us!" She jumps up
"What happened to being tired?" I ask
"That was then, this is now."
* * *
"Oh great, you guys are here." Shawn says
"Hey man, its been a minute." I say as we fist bump
"Let me grab the package. I see you brought your girlfriend." He goes underneath the counter to get the box
"Hey Shawn. Any new arrivals I might be interested in?" Natsuki asks
"Uh, yeah, probably in the fantasy section next to the Sailor Moon stuff." He states
"That's more of my demographic." I point out
"Right. Damn it, where did I put it? You like Slice-of-Life, right? We got some shipments of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid coming soon." He says
"Dragon Maid? Okay, I've read a few off Jake's shelf."
"Okay! Here it is!" Shawn lifts the box and sets it on the counter
He grabs a box cutter from underneath the counter also and hands it to me
"Here goes nothing..." I sigh, pushing out the blade to the box cutter
I cut the tape slowly, finally opening the flaps. The item inside it...
"What the hell?" I stare at the item
"What the hell indeed..." Shawn says
"Hm? Oh you guys opened it? Come on!" Natsuki runs up to us from the Slice-of-Life section
She gets a look and pretty much repeats what I said.
I pick up the item and examine it.
"So a video game - that everyone can agree that no one's heard of, was what we were waiting for?" I ask
"Seems so." Shawn sighs
"Damn it, was hoping for something interesting, not 'Legacy - The Reawakening'." Natsuki whines
"What were you expecting, a severed head?" I ask
"Honestly, more like an ear. Van Goh style, y'know?" She shrugs
"Well thanks anyway Shawn. It's been cool." I tell him
"It's no problem. Let me know what's on that game!" He shouts as we stay at the exit
"For sure! Nat, put down the Manga." I say
"Oh right, I'm coming!"
* * *
*Natsuki POV*
"So, whaddya think is in the disc?" I ask as Jake focuses on the road
"It's titled 'Legacy - The Reawakening'. If my video game experience has taught me anything, its not how to tell what type of game it is without a description." He states
"There's not even any cool disc art on it, just a black layer with a white logo. The case is just something for old CD's, like your CD collections of anime OP's and boring album's." I sigh
"Okay, don't bash on my album CD's. No one may use CD's anymore, but they could be worth a lot after... twenty years?"
"Digital age. You wouldn't last in the future." I mock
"Sadly, I find that the truth." He sighs
We get home and walk upstairs into the bedroom. Jake starts looking over the game disc and realizes he needs something else.
"Nat! A little help here?"
I open the door to see Jake struggling to carry his old PC up the stairs. I quickly help him hold it, dividing the weight between us.
"Jesus, why is this thing heavier than the one you use now!?" I ask
"Have you seen this thing? It's the type that belongs in a library, not in a gamer's room!" He replies
With definite struggle, we get the old PC up the stairs and set it on the desk. The reason we need his old PC is because his newer one; the one he uses now, doesn't use discs, but this one does.
"Grab the disc, this needs to be dusted off." He says
"That's what happens when you leave things to collect dust in the garage." I say, grabbing the disc and handing it to him
He connects the PC to his monitor and plugs it in. He sets the disc beside the PC and turns it on. Once he boots it, he inserts the disc, but... it doesn't do anything.
"Why isn't it working? Jake- Jake?" I notice that he's frozen
I shake him slightly, but to no avail. I start shaking him harder, trying to wake him up.
"Jake? Okay, very funny, wake up." I keep shaking him by the shoulders
I sigh and pull my hand back.
*SMACK*
"H-Huh? Wha- AUGH!!!" Jake starts cupping his quickly reddening cheek
"Late reaction, what happened there?" I ask
"Ow... the hell Nat?" He asks
"You froze out of nowhere, had to slap the shit out of you." I say with a smile
"It was nothing, just... zoned out." He starts soothing his cheek
"Uhuh, zoned out. And seriously? Did that hurt that much?" I start glaring at my hand, realizing the power I now contain
"Yes! It hurt! And for God's sake, it still stings!" He whines
"Keep whining and the other side will feel my wrath!" I say playfully
"Please don't."
"Then bow before me, you feeble mortal!" I joke
"Well I don't wanna get slapped again..." He smirks

*Jake POV*
That was weird... was it the disc? It happened as soon as I put it in the PC... Huh...
