Just Like Old Times
Aurora had made a habit of wandering around the Phantomhive Manor at night, humming quietly to herself and letting memories rush over her. Tonight she was humming and wandering with her eyes closed, allowing herself some form of relaxation. Soon though, she was dancing in the halls and found herself being spun into someone's arms. Her silver blue eyes shot open and she noticed Sebastian smiling down at her and pulling her into a waltz in the middle of the hall. He smirked, "Get lost, mon cherie?" He asked.
Aurora giggled, "Perhaps."
The demon spun her around like a ballerina and Aurora smiled, "What are you doing up so late, Sebastian?"
Sebastian hummed, "Searching for you, what else?"
Aurora smirked, "Protecting the young master?"
The demon dipped her and chuckled, "Yes, I suppose that."
He pulled them back up and then took her hand, the pair of them walking down the hall. Aurora sighed, "I still can't believe it." She said softly, "I never thought I'd see you again." Sebastian looked over at her, "And I you. I was certain you were gone." He kissed her cheek, "I am glad to see you again."
They were outside on the terrace now, looking out over the garden and the night sky. Aurora smiled slyly, "Do you remember when we were younger, Malphas?" The demon looked over at her as she hopped over the terrace and wandered over to a fountain in the garden. "Do you remember when we used to play all those silly games by the lake?" She added, walking on the edge of the fountain, balancing as she walked alongside him.
Sebastian smirked, "I remember." He said, "I also remember when I took a certain angel boating and she capsized the vessel because she got excited over seeing a fish." Aurora gasped and shoved him playfully, "I did not capsize the boat!" Sebastian chuckled, "Yes you did! You jumped up and tried to look after it." Aurora giggled, "Well, it was still fun." Sebastian smirked, "Yes... It was."
He smiled fondly at the memory, remembering how they had fallen into the water and splashed each other and laughed for some time before they swam back to the shore and warmed up by a fire. He watched her now with a small smile as she looked into the fountain, watching the small fish in it.
Seeing she was distracted, Sebastian smirked and moved to dunk her, only to have her shoot him a sly smirk at the last second, and grab him as he shoved her in, causing him to be pulled in as well with a loud splash. Sebastian sat up, drenched. Aurora's blonde hair was plastered to her face and she had a bright smile crossing her features.
"You should have seen the look on your face, mon amie!"
Sebastian smirked and tackled her, drawing a laugh from his childhood friend as he pinned her into the water. Aurora looked up at him, his crimson eyes were bright and full of life, unlike that of a regular demon. Water dripped from his raven coloured locks and onto her face. Aurora reached up to cup his face in her hand, a smile on her face. "I've missed this." Sebastian smiled, "Me too." He sat up and helped her out of the fountain with a chuckle, "You haven't changed a bit, have you?"
Aurora giggled as he pulled her into his tight embrace. "Is it such a bad thing, mon amie?"
Sebastian sighed, shaking his head. "Not at all. You are just how I remember you, my angel."
They carried on walking through the garden. Aurora sighed, "It's amazing... Finally able to be free... Able to leave that wretched place." Sebastian smirked, "Oh? The Silver City was wretched? How strange, I was under the impression it was a paradise." Aurora hummed, "For humanity and other angels. But not for me." She sighed, "Do you know what it's like, Malphas?" She murmured, "To be alone? I'm a demon amoung my own kind. My mother is a Fallen, my father was an Arch." Tears filled her eyes. "I wasn't even supposed to be born..."
Sebastian was by her side in an instant. "And I'm glad you were. Had you not, I would never have been able to feel the way I do." He pulled her into his arms. "Angelica, no one else matters. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of you. You are perfect just the way you are, mon amie. And I love you for it. You aren't some run of the mill angel, demoness, or reaper or even human- you're a mysterious puzzle, a puzzle I've had the joy of discovering." He cupped her face in his hand, "And every day I love piecing you together."
Aurora looked up at him, "What happens when you complete me then?" She asked. Sebastian smirked, "But that's the beauty of it, my angel, you are the kind of puzzle that takes an eternity to complete." He held her close, "Angelica... Your past does not matter to me. What we focus on now, is us." He held her hand and smiled, "Understand?"
Aurora smiled and then suddenly gasped, grabbing the demon by the shoulders, a bright smile on her face. "Do you remember when you took me to that strange Nordic village?!" Sebastian smirked and released a chuckle, "You were so frightened to them you clung to me like a babe would it's mother's breast."
Aurora giggled and held his hands, swinging their twined hands back and forth. "Do you remember how we danced?" Sebastian hummed, amused at the thought. "Indeed, I remember it quite well." Aurora giggled again, "Oh! What about when we played in the snow that one Christmas?!"
Sebastian chuckled quietly, "I do recall that year. I had to drag you out of the snowbank after you slipped up ice skating." Aurora was holding his hands and spinning them around, the pair of them resembling children playing a game of ring around the rosy.
Sebastian smiled at her, a glimmer of love in his eyes, "Do you remember our first kiss?"
Aurora slowed them then, her eyes widening with the memory and a faint blush gracing her cheeks. "Yes... Yes of course I remember it." She was blushing, "You were quite charming. I remember how I went home thinking to myself of our future." She blushed and was giggling to herself, "I remember going to sleep at night, pretending you were sleeping beside me...."
She blushed even more, "I- I remember feeling so guilty for feeling such a way- then when I saw you again, the night of Schon Bruhn- I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you." She was pulled into his embrace then, resting her face over his heart, "I remember that first kiss laid out the plan for everything...." Sebastian hummed, "I remember thinking how beautiful you were... I was so captivated I lost control. I fell in love with you the moment I saw you flying down from Heaven for the first time."
Sebastian looked down at her as they meandered throughout the garden again, "Do you remember when we were young, my love? Do you remember it all, or bits and pieces?"
Aurora sighed, "Sometimes I remember everything, other times... only bits and pieces." She curled into his embrace with a sweet smile, "But what does it matter? I have you. And- you'll help me remember... Won't you?"
The demon looked down at her, her silver blue eyes were hopeful and full of nothing but pure adoration. He chuckled and leaned down to kiss her, his lips meeting hers in a tender kiss. "Of course I will, darling." He said, crimson hues meeting silver blue. "What kind of friend would I be if I couldn't be there for you when you needed me?"
The next day, Aurora was going over Ciel's history homework with him. "No... That happened in the fourth century." Aurora said. Ciel looked confused, "The fourth century?" Aurora nodded, "Yes, Constantine ended the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire."
Ciel looked beyond confused. Aurora folded her arms across her chest, "What?" Ciel cleared his throat, "How old.... are you?" Aurora narrowed her eyes, "You are a gentleman Ciel, gentlemen do not ask ladies for their age. It is seen as rude." She went back to going over the papers, and frowned again, "Okay- how do you not know any of this? It's very obvious and clear! We could take a trip to Rome right now and I could show you this!"
She looked at Ciel who looked confused, "Rome? You want to go to Rome to prove a point?" Aurora nodded, "Yes. Come along, let's fetch Sebastian. Then the three of us will take a quick trip over the pond." She grabbed the boy by the arm and dragged him out of the office. "Let's see... around this time if he's not teaching the young lord.... he should be in the library"
Ciel looked shocked, "What?! Do you have his schedule memorized or something?!" He exclaimed as she jerked him into the library where they found the butler. Aurora grinned and practically tackled the demon, "Sebastian! We are going to Rome! Come on!" She grabbed him by the hand and yanked him towards the door only for the demon to pull back, "Wait! Why are we going to Rome? We haven't even packed anything! Since when did we decide we're going to Rome?!"
Aurora hummed, "Ciel doesn't know basic fourth century history. So I figured we could just take a quick trip over and we could show him a few of our old haunts. You know- just like old times, mon amie?!" She giggled and tugged his arm again, "Come on! It'll be fun! I haven't seen you smi-"
Sebastian cut her off. "Aurora. The fourth century was over a thousand years ago."
Aurora shook her head, "Oh that doesn't matter! Come on! Let's go!" Sebastian grabbed her arm and pulled her so her face was an inch from his. "Angelica," he murmured, eyes flickering in sympathy, "It's gone." He said, "It's all gone. Things have been destroyed and rebuilt. Angelica, it is not what you remember."
Aurora shook her head, tears in her eyes, "No! No of course it isn't! Come on! I'll prove you wrong!" Sebastian looked at her sympathetically. "Darling..." Aurora pulled both him and Ciel outside, "Come on! Let's go!" Sebastian looked down at his master, "Would you...?" Ciel sighed, "I suppose. I haven't been to Rome anyways. It might be interesting to see. And as long as we're quick about it, I see no problems."
An hour or so later, the three of them stood in Rome, before one of it's many coliseums. Aurora looked confused, "I- I don't understand..." She murmured, "There used to be so much here... Where is the old palace? The- the..." Sebastian moved to stand beside her, "See?" He murmured, "I told you. It isn't as you remember it."
Tears streamed down the angel's face. "I- I don't understand"
Sebastian pulled his arm around her, "Humans advance differently. You know that." Ciel watched the couple, watched as the blonde collapsed into her friends arms, sobbing. Sebastian held her close, shushing her. "Shush. It is not all gone." Aurora looked up at him, her lower lip wobbling as he gently took her by the hand and lead her to an engraved marking. She dropped her knees and smiled sadly, "I-It's still here..."
Sebastian smiled down at her affectionately. "That isn't all that survived." He lead her over to another coliseum, this one had paintings around it. He smirked and nodded to one, "Do you remember this?" Aurora gasped rushing up to gently touch the portrait. "Oh!"
Sebastian glanced over to make sure Ciel was occupied with something else and joined his childhood friend, wrapping an arm around her and putting his hand beside the one she had resting against the portrait.
"Not everything fades, my dear. While castles and empires may fall, we still have the memories that we made."
Aurora rested her head against his, tears in her eyes as she looked at the portrait, the two of them stood alongside Constantine the Great, Aurora having acted as a priestess and Sebastian a high ranking military general. "I remember it so well... It feels just like yesterday."
Sebastian hummed, "That is the curse of immortality my dear. We live to see everything fall. We have seen empires rise and fall, to us it appears as merely a few years, while for the humans it is centuries and eras." He held her close to his side. "You and I will exist until the end of eternity. But, we will have each other."
Aurora sighed and curled into his embrace, she was still deeply upset of everything her and Sebastian's entire history not being exactly as she remembered it, but Sebastian would always be there. Her demon would not let her down. He would never leave her side, he would be her knight in shining armour, there to come to her rescue whenever she required it. He was always going to be, her prince charming.
