It had been so long since you had seen your big sister. The last time you had talked to her was the beginning of the week. You wanted so badly to tell her to come home and visit you. You wanted to see her one last time before you were gone. You knew you were going to die but you didn't have the heart to tell her. You couldn't bear the thought of being the reason she cried.
You had been sick for some time but no doctor knew what it was. What they did know was that it was killing you and you only had about a week left to live. You could feel it as well. It was getting harder to open your eyes as each day passed. You were so tired. It was almost as if you could feel yourself slipping away.
You were laying on your bed about to close your eyes when you're mom called you from downstairs. It took all you had to get out of bed and go to the living room where you had heard her voice, but once you got there it was worth it.
Waiting in the living room was the one person you so badly wanted to see: your big sister.
You slowly walked over to her and wrapped your arms around her. She hugged you back as she moved the two of you to the couch so that you were laying in her arms.
The two of you laid there for a while not saying anything as your fatigue grew.
"Can you sing for me?" you whispered.
It was quiet for a second before she started singing one of your favorite songs: Moonlight. It started off as a lullaby for you when you were a kid before she made it into a song. She used to sing it to you every night as you laid in her arms just like tonight.
"Goodnight, Sunshine," you murmured before closing your eyes.
"Goodnight, Moonlight," you heard her say before you fell asleep.
A few moments later your mother walked in to see Ari Laing on the couch with you in her arms, softly stroking your head as tears streamed down her face.
"She's gone, Mom. My Moonlight's gone," Ari whispered.
