I sat on my chair,
A page in front of me; as white as ever-
The teacher droned on and on and on
about solids, liquids, and vapours.
I saw the squirrels, scuttling on the
asbestos roof,
Nibbling at the tidbits we'd thrown over,
And a crow, sitting, one eye closed,
It looked more saintly, never.
I wanted a pair of feather-white wings,
and an invisibility cloak would
make it better,
And swoosh and whoosh and fly across the sky,
and not return until forever.
I wanted to touch the froth of the sea,
and feel the wings of the honey bee,
and bounce on the clouds- Oh, I had to-
And pet the cub at the National Zoo.
I looked at the clock on the wall,
and by some magic,
its hands had stalled!
I felt ticklish; I looked back,
and lo and behold, I had wings on my back!
A sudden gust of wind swooped me out of the room,
In no time sooner, was I flying-
I am still flying you see,
and won't be stopping soon,
But sometimes-
sometimes, I promise-
I'll throw a poem or two at you.
