You lay in bed staring at the ceiling. You've been trying to fall asleep for the past 2 hours, it was almost 4 am. You keep replaying the moment from earlier that night in your head..
" i didn't mean to, I forgot, that's all I ever hear from you! "
" c'mon Dar- "
" shut up! I'm sick and tired of you sticking up for him, ya hear me? "
" don't you yell at him! "
And before you knew it, Ponyboy was on the ground, and out the door. The whole thing had gone by so fast. You had stayed on the couch the whole time, not thinking it was going to be that big of a deal. But things escalated so quickly, and now Pony was gone and you didn't know when he was gonna come back.
"what the hell" was all you could say.
"watch your mouth y/n"
"watch my mouth? did you not just see our brother get pushed to the floor and run away?"
Soda stood there looking at you with wide eyes.You feel you tears run down your cheeks while Darry sits next to you on the couch, trying to comfort you. You start crying, a lot. You weren't sobbing, but with what just happened, you couldn't believe your brothers. "he'll be back, don't worry ".
You get up and walk across the room. "how do you know? You're the one who hit him in the first place!" You knew what you said was wrong, but you couldn't help it, this was all too much. The two boys exchanged glances and you could see Darry's face drop. You weren't usually the one to lash out, but you were worried about Pony.
You had decided to run and lock yourself in your room, not wanting to make matters any worse. You started to let out light sobs, a million thoughts running through your head. Is Pony ever coming back? If so, when? Where did he go? Does he miss me? Should I go looking for him? What are we gonna do?
You were restless and weren't going to lay here for the next few hours stressing. You get up and put on a pair of sweatpants and an old sweatshirt. You open your door and walk into the living room, and to your surprise, there he was. You wanted to shout his name and yell for Darry and Soda, but he stops you by putting his finger to his lips, motioning for you to shut it. Instead, you tip-toe over to where he was standing and give him the biggest hug you could give.
"Ponyboy," you whisper "I didn't think you were coming back" He pulls out of the hug and looks at you,
"I know, I'm so sorry, i shouldn't have left i just-" You cut him off, " you have nothing to be sorry for, just please don't leave ever again, at least not without me"
He just smiles and looks at you, yawning.
"well, can i go to sleep please? I'm exhausted"
"fine" you say, "but promise me in the morning we can all just be nice again? I hate it when we fight"
"i promise y/n"
You both smile and say goodnight.
Sure the future wasn't looking too good, but at least you had your best friend back.
