The Game is a Foot
Bruce had been hired by Rue,
who didn't know what to do.
This was going to be fun.
He knew just how he would find out all he needed to know.
Straight to the source...to Sallie...he would go.
He washed, shaved, and slicked back his hair,
then headed for the hotel, hoping Sallie would be there.
He snooped at the desk until he found the number of her door,
then headed upstairs, knocked once, and then once more.
His story was made up, his alibi tight.
If all went well, he'd be staying with Sallie tonight.
***
A knock at her door, it had better be Jake,
For his own sake,
He hadn't come home last night after Sallie had put him in his place.
She peered out, but it was not Jake she did see
But a handsome stranger with hair as slick as can be.
She knew his type well of this gentleman caller in the hotel.
Sallie put on a sweet smile,
and it'd been a while
since she had some fun of her own.
Something to pass the time until Jake dared to come home.
"Can I help you, sir?"
"I sure do hope so, miss," Bruce said with a smile.
"Might I come in for a while?
I'm selling a new type of laundry soap.
You'll let me demonstrate, I hope?"
He produced a case of ordinary soap that anyone might use in BG,
and smiled at her encouragingly.
"It doesn't look special, but I think you'll see,
There's more to it than meets the eye...just like me."
He rested his hand on the doorframe close to her head.
"So may I come in?" He softly said.
Sallie gave him a grin to match.
In her mind, a plan she did hatch.
This salesman she knew wasn't just selling soap.
She could use him to her advantage, She did hope.
Find out what he knew about the folks in BG.
Well, particularly Ruechari.
He was just the distraction she wanted him to be,
Besides Jake had refused to keep her company
In the way all ladies need.
Might as well kill two birds with one stone, thought Sallie.
She opened the door,
"Do come in, sir, and tell me more."
As soon as he was in, he dropped his briefcase on the floor,
Took off his coat, and used his foot to shut the door.
"I hope you'll forgive me, ma'am, but I have to say
You are the loveliest woman I've seen today.
Your smile is like a bright sunbeam
And your eyes just have the prettiest gleam."
Sallie faked a blush.
This con man really was too much.
He didn't know what he was getting himself into.
Soon he'd be eating out of her hand, Telling her all about Rue.
And perhaps that tramp Mary Sue.
"Why thank you sir. You are too kind.
I really could use some good laundry soap.
I'm new here and don't yet know the ropes.
Perhaps you could help me with that? Forgive me if I'm being too bold."
Sallie gave him an embarrassed smile, his eyes she wouldn't hold.
"Of course, ma'am. What a pleasure it would be."
Bruce smiled warmly at Sallie.
This would be an easy task,
If he wanted info, all he had to do was ask.
"I'd be glad to show you around the town
And take you to dinner if you'd like to come down
To the dining room with me."
He flashed her a smirk that was quite charming.
"Well I'm free tonight I do believe.
How about around 7 if you'd please?"
"That ought to work out nicely.
I'm looking forward to it actually," said he.
Sallie smiled. The trap was set.
Soon this smooth talker would come to regret.
Bruce hadn't seen nothing yet.
She'd use him up till there was nothing left.
"Splendid! I can hardly wait! Now didn't you have something to show me?"
Bruce smiled, "Indeed I do. Dare I say I have lots to show a pretty lady like you."
Sallie giggled as he went for his case of soap.
All you needed to do to catch a man was give him some rope.
Just enough and he'd hang himself with it
and she wouldn't have to get her hands dirty at all.
Soon enough this man would be at her beck and call...
