Chapter 5: Food Fight, and Story Time
I gasped as I saw what my new room looked like, it was pink, which is my favorite color, and their was a giant king sized bed against one of the walls. There was a giant window overlooking the backyard, with pink polka dot curtains to match the pink paint on he walls. I walked into the giant bedroom, and also saw a vanity mirror, and desk. Their was a very beautiful walk in closet, and a bathroom that was the size of my room in my old house when I lived in Texas. Jacklen said
" I hope this will be alright, I originally had this room as a baby girls room for if I ever happened to have a girl baby, but when I stopped having children, I just changed it into a guest bedroom, but we never get very many guests anyways, so now it is yours, do you like it?"
Jacklen had a sweet smile plastered on her face, and I said
" Jacklen...I seriously have no words too how much I love this room, it is so beautiful, and everything I could ever dream of. Thankyou so much for everything that you have done for me since my parents passed, you have no idea how much you mean to me."
My eyes started tearing up, and so did Jacklens, and she embraced me in yet another one of her bone crushing hugs. She said
" Oh baby doll, I cant even imagine what has been going through that pretty little head of yours these past few hours, I am so sorry for what has happened, and I know that everything has been happening so fast, but when I got the call about your parents, I took the first flight to Texas, that's how I got to your house so fast, but I am really happy you will be living with me, it will be like having the daughter I never had, plus I need another girl in this house to keep things running smoothly."
" Aw, thanks Jacklen, that really means alot to me, and thanks again."
" No problem hun, now I am going to go back downstairs so you can get everything in order, and unpack, dinner will be at eight o'clock, but you will hear it over the intercom."
Jacklen showed me where my intercom was, above my bedroom light switch, and she showed me how to use it. All you do is press the little black button below the speaker, and people throughout the house will be able to hear what I am saying when I talk through it. It was really cool, I felt like I was in one of those spy movies, where they use their intercoms for emergencys. After Jacklen left, I took sometime in walking around the room, it was gorgeous, every girls dream bedroom, I loved it. Right now, the time was about seven-thirty, so I started to unpack my suitcase, and I placed my clothes in their correct places in my new closet. I am actually really tired, because Texas is three hours ahead, but its ok, I will get use to it. Since I didnt have that much to unpack, I decided that I should probably call my bestfriend Sidney. I grabbed my phone, and dialed her number, which I knew by heart, and on the first ring, she picked up. I didnt even get a chance to say anything before she yelled
"OH MY GOSH CLEO!!!!! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN, YOU HAVENT BEEN ANSWERING MY CALLS, I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!!!"
Aparently she hasnt heard about my parents yet, so I guess I am going to have to break the news to her. I couldnt control my emotions any longer, and just started balling my eyes out. Sidney said
" Cleo? Cleo, whats wrong?"
" I am in California, be-because my parents pl-plane crashed, and th-they are DEAD Sidney!!!!! My parents are de-dead, and I am sc-scared Sidney, I am so scared!!!"
There was a long pause before Sidney said
"What... Cleo...your parents died?"
I was crying so hard by now, I couldnt answer her, and I trhink she got the hint, because she said
"Shh, Cleo, its going to be ok, dont worry, I am right here, I may not be with you in Claifornia, but I am only a call away. And since we are on the subject...I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE IN FREAKING CALIFORNIA, YOU BITCH!!!"
I started laughing after she siad that, Sidney always seems to make me laugh, even in the lowest of moments. I could hear her laughing on the other end, and I said
" I know you will be here with me Sidney, you always have, I love you, your my best firend, it's just that when the police showed up at my door today, and told me about my parents, I didn't believe him, and then when my moms best friend showed up in my house, I just felt like everything was happening so fast! And Jacklen seems nice and all, but I don't even know her!!! I don't remember my mom telling me anything about her, how am I suppose to believe that she is my mothers best friend!?"
" Cleo, the only way to find out if Jacklen really is her best friend, is to just ask her to tell you stories about when they were younger, or ask her if she could show you some pictures of when your mother and her were younger, just communicate with her, and I know all of this has been happening so fast, but I know you, your strong, you can push through it."
I heard Jacklen say through the intercom,
"Kids, its dinner time, get your butts down here now...please."
I said to Sidney
" Hey, listen I gotta go, but I promise I will call you tomorrow, cause I totally have to tell you something about this family that you would flip over!! I love you, bye"
"What!! No, tell me now, oh whatever, you are too stubborn, I love ya too babe, call me tomorrow, bye."
I quickly walked into my bathroom, and applied a little mascara to my eyelashes, because I have been crying. I walked out of my bathroom, and into the long hallway outside my bedroom. I was walking slowly down the hall, when somebody opened their bedroom door really fast, and slammed right into me. I fell backwards, for the second tome today, and looked up to see a grinning Colton. I glared at him, and he said
" You know, you should really stop getting in my way, apparently bad things always happen to you when I'm around."
I got up, and stood right infront of him and said
"Well, if you were more careful, things like this wouldnt happen."
We had another stare off, before all of a sudden I was up and over Coltons shoulder. I said
" What the hell Colton, put me down!!!"
" Nah, I like you right where I put you Cleo, I get a perfect view of your butt, plus you should be thanking me, because now you don't have to walk all the way down the stairs."
I could just imagine Colton was smirking at the moment, and I said
" wow, typical boy, all they care about are boobs, and butts. Plus, I have legs for a reason, I can walk down a flight of stairs"
I kept hitting Colton in the back, and pinching his legs, but he wouldn't let me down, so I just decided it was of no use, he wouldn't put me now, so I just let my arms dangle. We finally reached the kitchen, and I knew that because I could smell something totally delicious, and it made my mouth start watering, I didn't realize how hungry I was until I smelled food. Colton put me down, and I gave him one last glare before walking to the table. There was thirteen chairs, and plate settings, so I just took a seat in the middle. A chair shifted beside me, and I turned to see a grinning Colton. I just rolled my eyes, and looked forward, until another chair shifted beside me, and I turned to see a happy looking Chad. I smiled at him, but just stayed silent until everyone sat down. When Jacklen was seated, she looked at me and said
" Cleo sweetie, I hope you are ok with home made tacos, I didn't have that much time to make anything special."
" Tacos are great, thank you."
Everyone just started passing the taco shells around, and soft tacos, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese, you know, all the stuff you put into a taco. Jacklen said
" Oh, and Cleo, my husband Charles is still working, but you will be able to meet him later."
" That's ok."
I created my delicious taco, and started to eat it, it was so yummy, I decided to make another one. One of the twins, Eli, said
" Dude, Dillian, stop kicking me!,
" I'm not Eli, don't accuse me!!"
" I know your kicking me, and its really annoying, so stop."
After Eli said that, he threw some shredded cheese into Dillians face. Dillian said
" What the heck Eli!!!! Oh, it's on like donkey kong!!!!!!"
And that's how the food fight began. Dillian threw ground beef into Eli's hair, then Eli chucked sour cream into Dillians hair, but some missed, and hit Blake, who was sitting next to Dillian, so Blake stood up, and tossed his whole taco, aiming for Eli, but Eli moved, and it hit Jack! Jack threw tomatoes, and some went up and over Chad, and landed right on my face, and head!!!!!! I hate tomatoes, always did, always will, so I said
" Ew! Ew, Ew Ew, that's disgusting!!!"
I saw Colton laughing from beside me, so I quickly grabbed the sour cream, and I smeared it all over his face! His reaction was priceless, it was pure shock, but
then he started grinning, so I said
" uh-oh..."
" yup, uh-oh is correcto!"
Before I had time to react, Colton chucked the salsa on top of my head. I felt the juice drip down my fore head, and run into my ears, and I snatched the ground beef bowl, and started throwing ground beef at Colton. I heard Jacklen say
" THAT'S ENOUGH!!!!!! Everyone stop!"
Everyone stopped, except Grant threw some sour cream at the last second, and it landed right on Jacklens head! You could tell she was about to blow up, then she said
" This is unacceptable at the dinner table, you all should be ashamed of yourself!! Now, I am not going to clean up your mess that you made, so I am going to go upstairs for twenty minutes, and when I come back down, there should not be one spot left."
When Jacklen was out of sight, I actually looked around, and everyone had a little bit of everything on them, all over their bodies. We all looked a mess, but most of all, I felt embarrassed, I just came into this house today, and I have already done something that Jacklen is ashamed about. Everyone just kept standing in one place before I said
" ok, we have already wasted three minutes, so lets get to work, Dillian and Eli, since you started the war, you will clean the floor, Grant and Quinn, you will clear the table, Blake and Colton, you will wash the dishes, Jack, you will put the dishes into the dishwasher, and Chad and Drake, I am sending you upstairs to get cleaned up, and Dallas, you don't need to be here either, you didn't do anything."
After I gave the orders, everyone got strait to work, I am actually surprised they all listened to me, but apparently their mother gives bad consequences if they don't listen to her. I started cleaning the walls, because their was ground beef, and sour cream all over them. After about fifteen minutes of non-stop cleaning labor, we were finally done. Jacklen came down at the exact time she said she would, and when she came Into the kitchen, all of us were lined up ready to say we were sorry. When she saw how spotless the kitchen was, she looked shocked, and said
" good job, now, do you have anything to say to me?"
At the same time, we all said
" we are very sorry, it won't happen again."
" ok, apology accepted, now go to your rooms, and clean yourself up please, and Cleo, when you are done cleaning up, I would like to see you in my office please."
I just nodded my head, and everyone started their trek up to their rooms. I thought to myself
' Oh no, she doesn't want me living with her, she doesn't like me, she wants me out!'
Once I reached my room, I went strait into the bathroom, and turned on the shower. I looked into my mirror, and I had sour cream in my hair, on my face, their was a slice of tomato down my shirt, and shredded cheese, and ground beef in my hair. I looked like a taco decided to throw up on me. I pulled my clothes off, and stepped into the steaming hot shower. After about fifteen minutes of the best shower ever, I stepped out, and wrapped the towel around my body. I opened the bathroom door, and stepped back into my new room. I shut the door behind me, and turned around to find Colton laying on my bed, shirtless, and only in a pair of boxers. I screamed, and said
" what the hell Colton, get out, I am naked!!!"
" technically, you are not naked, because you have a towel around you, plus why do you take so long to take a shower?"
" I don't give a crap how long I take to have a shower, get the hell out of my room!!"
" Alright, jeez, but hurry, my mom sent me so I could show you how to get to her office."
Once Colton finally left, I took out some pajama shorts, underwear, and a black tank top. I pulled the shirt over my head, and put my undies on, and I was just about to pull my shorts on, when my door opened, and Colton said
" hurry up, you take forever, but, nice booty."
" GET OUT OF MY ROOM COLTON!!!!!!! YOU PERVERT!!!"
He shut the door again, and I quickly slipped my shorts on, and opened my bedroom door. I looked to my left, and saw Colton leaning on the wall, he pushed off of it, and started heading towards the staircaseon, and instead of going down, we went up. Once we got to the third floor, Colton led me down a hall, and there was an open door, I could see Jacklen sitting at her desk writing something. I started to get very nervous, and my palms started to sweat. When we reached the office, Colton and I stepped inside, and Jacklen said
" Thank you Colton, you may go."
After Colton left, Jacklen looked up at me, smiled, and said
" Have a seat Cleo, you are not in trouble, I just wanted to talk to you about something."
I took a seat in a leather chair, and she said
" You remind me so much of your mother. You look exactly like her too, you know, the blonde hair, big brown eyes, and from what I could tell, you have very similar personalities."
I was not expecting her to say anything like that, but it felt good to have her say that I was just like my mom, because she just died, and I miss her so much, even though I don't show it. Jacklen said
" when your mother and I first met, I was getting picked on at the time. I had absolutely no friends, it was fifth grade, at lunch when these boys walked up to me, and one of them pretended to trip, and he ran right into me, spilling all of his spaghetti on me. He said
oh, I am sorry Fatty, I didn't know you were there, but since my lunch is currently on you, you might as well eat it."
" I was so humiliated, and while I was crying, all of the boys were laughing, then all of a sudden, their laughter stopped, I took my head out of my hands, and looked up to see the boy who spilled his lunch on me, on the ground with a bloody nose. There was a girl standing above him, and she said
You know, you should really be careful to what you say to my friends, you humiliate them, and I will humiliate them more, you hurt them, and I will hurt you more, get my drift?
The boy shook his head frantically, and then ran away with his buddies chasing after him. After that, your mother, Clarissa, grabbed me by my hands, and walked me to the bathroom, and while she was helping me clean myself up, she said
We're going to best friends, I just know it!"
" she was so confidant, in the way she walked, talked, she just had this feisty personality that basically said,
' I don't care what anyone thinks, this is who I am, not you'
And I knew, that that day I got picked on, and when she told me that we would be best friends, I knew that she was right, and she was."
I was totally speech less, I had no idea what to say, that was the first story I had ever heard of my mother, and Jacklen, and so far, it has been the best story ever. Just hearing how my mother and Jacklen met, just made me feel more at ease staying in her house. I said
" wow, that is a really amazing story, but I can't imagine you getting picked on, your too nice, and gorgeous in every way."
" we'll, when I was younger, I was kind of overweight, and I also had no friends, so I was the perfect target for someone to get picked on, but my point was, was that I wanted to tell you how much you remind me of your mother, with the confidence, and feistiness, you could be her twin. And when the food fight happened downstairs just now, I heard you give out the different orders to my sons, and not once did they question you, you were born to be a leader Cleo, just like your mother was."
Everything Jacklen was saying to me, was going strait to my heart, and claiming its own place, it all meant so much too me. I said
" Thank you for sharing that story with me, but most of all, thank you for welcoming me into your home, and telling me that I am just like my mom, it really means a lot."
She smiled, and said
" your welcome baby doll, that's all I wanted to talk to you about, and I will share more of your mother and I's story's, but it is getting quite late, and you must be exhausted, so I am going to say goodnight."
She reached across the desk, and gave me a hug, and a kiss in the cheek, and I told her goodnight. I walked back down to the second floor, and went strait to my room. I was very tired, and when I laid down in my bed, I went strait to sleep.
