Chapter 15
She awoke the next morning as her alarm went off. She sat up and looked at the time, 6 am. As she slowly started to wake up she remembered she had to take Charlie to school today, she let out a small sigh as she got up and got dressed. Yawning she headed for Charlie’s room. She carefully opened the door as she said “Charlie sweetie it’s time to get up, last day of school before your vacation” and by that she left the room. She walked down the stairs yawning and headed for the kitchen. As she placed the box of cereals on the table she saw Charlie running around the corner humming a cheerful melody, “someone's in a good mood today huh” Camilla said smiling as he entered the kitchen “yup would you take me to the park later?” He said as he poured up some cereals into his bowl, “yeah I kinda owe you one don't I” she said playful as she saw him nod with his mouth full of cereal and a big smiling struggling to keep the food in his mouth, “okay then, when I pick you up after school you and I will be heading back to the park just you and me and it will be our little secret, deal?” Again Charlie sent her a smile while struggling to keep the food in, “alright but this is only if you finish up here and go straight up and brush your teeth and get ready okay?” Camilla said as Charlie took another big spoonful of cereal and nodded wildly at her. Smiling she left the kitchen to go get dressed herself, as she reached the upper level she tiptoed her way past Andrew’s bedroom and towards her own.
After some time she heard a quiet knock on her door followed by a whispering Charlie “Cam I'm ready now” she turned around and sent him a smile as she said “okay last one to reach…” As she continued she carefully grabbed her keys “the car is a sour grape!” By that she ran past the little boy and headed for the stairs. Halfway down she stopped and looked over her shoulder, gliding down the handle Charlie came laughing. A smile spread across her face as she watched him gliding all the way down and running out the door. As she reached the car Charlie was already in his seat, as she opened up the door in the driver side Charlie said “IwinIwinIwinyou'reasougrapeyou'reasourgrapehaha” laughing she got in and started the car. As they drove along the way towards the school, they had a sing along.
As she pulled up in front of the school Charlie was already halfway out of the car, “hey young man, at least wait until the car has stopped. I'll be here when you're off okay? And then I'll take you to the car as promised” she said as the little guy stopped and turned around and smiled at her as he said “okay!” And by that he ran off. A smile spread across her face as she started the car and started to head home.
As she drove up into the driveway she looked at the time 8:30 she wanted to just back into bed. She got out of the car and headed inside. Shortly after she had closed the front door after her she heard a knock. A sigh escaped her lips before she turned around and opened the door. On the other side of the door stood a familiar face with two cups of coffee, “so I know it isn't pizza but…” He sent her a small smile as he said “but coffee?” “Why thank you good sir, to what do I owe this pleasure?” She answered as she took the cup out of coffee. A smile spread across his face as he said “well I was just in the neighborhood and wanted to get you coffee. So what are we doing today?” As Camilla was about to answer she heard a mumble behind her followed by a few bangs, she looked over her shoulder too see Andrew up and humping down the stairs behind her, “I have to go, but thanks for the coffee” she said as she sent Joey a smile and closed the door behind her. As Andrew reached the bottom of the stairs she heard him say “who was that at this hour? And why are you smiling like an idiot? Last time I saw you, you were crying” still with a big smile on her face Camilla took a sip of her coffee before saying “well things change right?” She walked into the living room and grabbed a book from the shelf titled ‘Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy’
Suddenly a voice came from next to her “so what are we reading?” Cam jumped a bit as she turned her head to see Andrew was sitting right next to her, “uhm some book I found on the shelf I hope it’s alright. Another time please don’t come crawling up on me while I read okay?” a smile spread across Andrew’s face as he said “excuse me, I have been talking to you for the last hour or so, I’ve managed to go by here a few times, eat breakfast, get dressed and still trying to get in contact with you. Next time you tell me how to get in touch with you then” Cam careful closed the book as she sent him a smile before hitting him light with the book, “well excuse you and your parents and their taste in good literature” the two of the sat in the couch not really saying anything just laughing at the whole thing. That was until a car honked out front. Andrew got up and said “that’s my ride, you sure you don’t wanna come with me to the theater? I’m sure your little friend is gonna be there” Cam grabbed the closets pillow and threw it in his direction as she said “yeah I’, just gonna stay here finish reading plus I promised your brother a new trip to the park since someone ruined it the last time” Andrew picked up the pillow as he said “well fine then, but what about your friend then?” as he said the word friend he let go of the pillow and made air quotes “I’m sure he’s hoping to see you there” Cam let out a small sigh as she once more remembered last night. She got up and walked and opened the front door as she said “just go already” as she turned around to face the road and the car waiting for Andrew, he eyes were met with a set of familiar yet surprising hazel brown eyes. Before she could do anything else Andrew walked past them and as he walked past Cam he leaned in and whispered “alright then, but I think you owe me some details” as he walked past the set of hazel brown eyes he sent him a smirk as he continued down the garden path towards the car waiting for him.
When Andrew and the car were finally out of sight Joey said “you know I never got my answer on what you were doing today. You just took the coffee and closed the door on me. Now that’s not nice is it?” She wanted was to close the door, after all this was her first few hours alone after she'd gotten here earlier this week, still she smiled at him as she said “well I really didn't have time, Charlie had school you know, but thanks for the coffee” as she was about to close the door a hand grabbed hers as he said “so I was wondering since it’s already noon that maybe you would get that pizza with me?” she looked up into his brown eyes as she sighed before saying “I’m sorry Joey, but to be honest I would really just like to have some time alone before I have to pick up Charlie. I need some time to process last night and all” “wait I thought you knew he was with Devon, and I remember you saying that you guys were just there as friends. I’m sorry your night was like that, but you gotta admit I was your knight in shiny armor wasn’t I?” a big confident smile spread across Joey’s face. But it disappeared quickly as Camilla continued to close the door as she mumbled “sorry”
Behind the closed door Camilla sunk to the floor as the memories of her time alone with AJ started replaying in her head. Tears started to fall as she remembered the bench in the park and the parking lot at the hospital. How they had spent time alone and he had made her feel special, and she was convinced he not once but twice had tried to kiss her. But now she knew she had to be mistaken. He couldn’t have, he was with this Devon person and he would never fall for her a simple European girl. After some time her phone buzzed in her pocket, she took it and said “hello” trying to hide her tears, “uhm Cam I know it’s a good book, but if you haven’t forgotten the world around you completely I have a little brother, you know Charlie. The schools just called you have to get him; they got off about an hour ago” she dried the tears way from her cheeks as she said “I’m so sorry Andrew, time just got lost on me, it won’t happen again I promise” “it’s okay. Look I gotta go now, your friend here wants me to say hi, shall I say hi back?” Cam took a deep breath before she said “have fun we’ll see you when you get back tonight” and by that she hung up. As she hung up she noticed a text notification telling her she had an unread text. She couldn’t recall receiving it, still she opened up
AJ: Cam! So again I just really wanna apologize for last night. You seemed really sad when Joey picked you up. Also I hope I can get you that coffee again soon. Anyway I gotta go your friend Andrew here is yelling at us all. Call me later okay xoxo
As she read the text she could feel her heart drop in her chest. Her eyes couldn’t move any further that to the xoxo at the end. What could this mean? Why would he send her those? Still confused she put her hone back in her pocket and got up. She got the bathroom on the bottom floor and threw some cold water in her face. As she looked into the mirror she saw the redness in her face slowly disappearing, as she once more looked more like a human she got out to the car and drove towards Charlie’s Elementary School.
