It didn't take long for Rowan to get home. She rushed into the house and immediately went looking for answers. There had to be something there that could shed some light on who she was.

Rowan walks into the study, noticing a wooden chest in the corner of the room sealed shut with a lock. For some reason she felt drawn to it, it was as if some part of her knew something that she didn't and her curiosity couldn't help but get the better of her. She inches closer and closer. The anticipation building within her wanting to find some sort of answers to her growing pile of questions.

She hooked her hand around the ancient-looking lock to see if she could find a way to bust it open. But she is suddenly embraced by a warmth running through her veins, a tingling sensation grew from fingertips and flowed through her. She hadn't realized her eyes were closed as she was so absorbed in the euphoric sensation that had her in a trance-like state.

Opening her eyes she was met by a red glow radiating from her hand. She was hypnotized by the sight in front of her, the glow began the fade and the lock fell to the floor. "What the bloody hell just happened" Rowan mumbles to herself.

Her trail of thought was interrupted by the sound of knocking coming from the front door. She opened the front door to be met by Bonnie Bennett- the only one who knew her secret. Bonnie steps through the threshold and  Rowan motions for the girl to follow her to where she was a moment ago.

They entered the office and Rowan gestured towards the wooden chest. Bonnie looked back at her friend confused. "What am I supposed to be looking at?" She asks breaking the silence. "This will hopefully hold some answers." She sighs inching closer as she revisited the idea of what she had just witnessed only minutes ago while Bonnie stood back watching intently at her friend's hesitance.

Rowan was itching to tell Bonnie what had just occurred about 5 minutes ago, but Bonnie hadn't yet to be exposed to the supernatural. So until then, Rowan was going to have to limit her words and be careful of what she said to the Bennett witch until the truth had unfolded.

Rowan looked at the chest before turning her head back in her friend's direction to see her standing with her arms folded watching back at her. Bonnie had slightly distanced herself unsure if she should be there to witness what was inside the Matthews's family chest or if she should just leave the room and let the girl have a moment to herself. Rowan motioned for her friend to come closer, she didn't want to be alone anymore she had had enough alone time for the last year to last a lifetime and at the present moment in time, she needed someone by her side.

She grew the courage to open the chest but unlike the last time, there was no red glow. Lifting the lid the first thing that came to sight was a photo- of her parents. Her mother cradled a young Rowan in her arms looking down at her daughter with love, as her father hung his arm around his wife with a huge smile spread across his face looking directly at the camera. Tears came to the young girl's eyes and Bonnie wrapped her arm around her for support. Rowan hadn't dared to look at a photo of her parents since their passing as all it did was bring her to tears. She took a deep breath calming herself and set it to the side to look at what other things were contained in there.

She reached in grabbing the first thing she came to touch which was an old book that she had came to know as grimoires. She picks it up taking a look at the detailing but an envelope fell out which was addressed to the girl herself, redirecting her focus to what it held inside.

Rowan, my sweet daughter if you are reading this, I am unfortunately no longer in the land of the living and unable to protect you from the dangers that come with this world. You're father and I tried our best to keep you out of harm's way and out of the eye of the supernatural, but as you are probably aware you can't hide forever, especially when you come from a long line of witches. However, the line of witches that we descend from are no regular witches, siphoner witches are the name that we go by.

I do not expect you to remember the incident that occurred when you were young and I shall not go into detail, but the necklace that you were told to keep on at all time was for a reason. To keep you as well as others around you safe.

As Rowan processed the words, she took her gaze off the piece of paper and looked down. She reached into her pocket pulling out the necklace that she had yet to put back on since she left the hospital.  Rowan had no clue what she was doing when it came to magic so she quickly put back on the necklace just as a precaution.

Bonnie's phone started to ring and she motioned to the door lipping that she would be back in a minute. Looking back down to the letter that sat on her lap she continued to read her mothers words.

'The necklace will help you control your magic as well as stop you from accidentally siphoning. I am sorry You're father nor I can be there to support and guide you but sadly that was not the path nature had set out for us. However, that is not all that I need you to know of, I was not the only one linked to the supernatural. Your father had the werewolf gene'

"Well shit" Rowan muttered to herself dropping her hand from its place. She swallowed deeply trying to comprehend what was written in the letter. She folded it up quickly putting it back into the envelope and slipping it into her jacket pocket. There was more written in the letter but she didn't feel ready to finish it yet. Her mind was in a muddle, to say the least. But the thought that stood out the most was.

"What am I then?"

Walking out of the study she wasn't paying much attention to her surroundings being stuck among her thoughts, she had almost forgotten that Bonnie was still there until the two collided with each other, pulling Rowan back to reality. "Oh sorry Bon, everything ok?" Rowan began referring to the phone call the girl had left the room for. She nods humming in reply before taking a breath and changing the topic of conversation. "So, find anything of use?" For obvious reasons Rowan couldn't tell the witch the sensitive information that she had just learned, she herself didn't even know what to do with it. Not long ago Rowan was just a simple girl going through the daily struggles of a normal life in Toronto. Not too exciting and boring, to say the least. But now within the short time she had been in the small supernatural infested town of Mystic Falls, she had already been dragged into the craziness.

"Um well let's just say, I wasn't expecting to find what I did." Bonnie furrowed her eyebrow waiting for an explanation. Rowan sighed turning to wander the halls leading to her room and the Bennett follows closely behind. "You remember how I said that there are and will be some things I can't tell you straight away? "Rowan asked, But Bonnie wasn't quite sure to where this conversation was leading but nods her head hesitantly. "Well, this is one of those moments. Though, I'll be able to tell you soon. I think..." Rowan states questioning her own words as she spoke.

"Right... " Bonnie sighs understandingly, she wasn't going to force the girl into telling her. She knew that at the right time whenever that was, Rowan would tell her, and she was alright with that. Patience is what she would need and that is what Bonnie had.

"I can however shed some light on what happened the other night, or well parts of it," Rowan added turning round to face her best friend.

"As you know I've seen this all play out, but going out there didn't work out in my favour, therefore, resulting in me ending up in the hospital. I may have seen this all happen but me being here has changed a lot from what I have seen myself."

"You almost died Rowan. you obviously knew what was going to happen, yet you went in unprepared and could have got yourself killed." Bonnie spoke as her eyes became glazed with tears. "But I didn't. I'm standing right in front of you Bon alive and well" Rowan grabs her friends hands reassuringly looking at her with a soft comforting smile.

"And you don't think people aren't going to question how quick your recovery was, Rowan you were out for over two weeks. They weren't even sure you were going to survive because of how much blood you had lost, and yet you're miraculously walking around as if nothing had even happened." Bonnie replies in disbelief at how calm her friend was.

"I'm happy your ok Rowan I really am, but I'm just worried that there is something we are not seeing" Bonnie sighs scratching her forehead. "Bonnie... I have everything under control, there's no need to worry" Rowan assured resting her hands on the Bennett witches shoulders.

Rowan looks down to her necklace remembering the words wrote in the letter, she couldn't help but be curious about what would happen if she took it off. Bonnie noticed her looking at the necklace and give her a questioning look. "Isn't that the necklace your mom and dad got you when you were 7" The words hadn't long left the girls mouth until yet another headache started to develop. Rowan stumbled a bit trying to rebalance herself but lucky enough Bonnie grabbed onto her, helping to stabilize the brunette. She sat the girl on top of her bed until she returned from her daze like state.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

She heard the faint questioning voice of her friend Bonnie as she was dragged into a memory but she was unable to decipher her words as she detached from reality.

Before her eyes sat a young Rowan tucked away in her hiding spot, cradling her legs, staring into the oblivion with glossy eyes and tear-stained cheeks. It looked as if the young girl had the weight of the world on her shoulders. She just wanted to pull the little girl into her arms and be of some support, Rowan was always a sympathetic girl and hated to see those around her upset. However, all tended to abuse her kindness, until one day a fuse snapped. She refused to be treated like a doormat to be walked over, so she decided to drop all of those who used her and treated her as if she was nothing but a piece of shit on their shoe.

The sound of footsteps echoed in the distance making Rowan fix her gaze on two figures inching closer. A tear slid down her cheek as she saw her parents kneeling before the young Rowan. The young girl looked up to her parents as they looked at her sympathetically. "I didn't mean to do it. Please don't hate me" She whimpered, trying to hide her tears.

"Oh, honey of course we don't hate you." Her father lifted the young girl's chin so she was directly looking at the two. Young Rowan fixed her gaze upon her mother apologetically. "It was an accident baby, look I'm perfectly fine. I know you didn't mean to hurt me." her mother assures the young girl taking her small hand into hers comfortingly.

"We have something for you. It will prevent an accident like this from occurring again" her father explained before pulling out a small lilac box and handed it to the young Rowan. She opened the box to see a purple crystal necklace with silver detailing. She pulled the necklace out and her mother helped to secure it around the young girl's neck. She wrapped her arms around her parents lovingly and mumbled a thank you into her mother's shoulder.

The memory began to fade and her surroundings began to become clear. She rubs her forehead taking a deep breath as the memory repeated in her head. Bonnie could see the sad look in Rowan's eyes as she came back to reality. She wasn't sure of what her friend had seen but it obviously had upset her.

Not long after, Bonnie had to leave as it was getting late and her Grams needed some help, leaving Rowan to have some time to herself. As she sat alone in her room with her thoughts, she sighed reaching into her pocket and pulled the envelope back out and sat it on her bedside cabinet. She was trying to gain the courage to reopen the letter and finish the words that her mother wrote. She ran her slim fingers through her brown locks as her mind was overflown with thoughts.

She dropped back and her head hit her pillow, closing her eyes with the impact, but as the minutes passed and her consciousness grew weak and she unintentionally fell asleep peacefully as she blocked out the neverending thoughts and just let herself relax.
