though i always put in enough effort for first place,
somehow i'm always second best.
somehow i'm always the one to chase.
mother raised me to never settle for less.
seems that is the path i must walk however,
to all of the kings i've served, i was a mere peasant.
in a search for love, i stumbled across endeavours.
goals i realize now involved too much investment.
three words would warm something within me,
unfortunately they were abused too often.
pitiful how 'i love you's once turned me into a devotee,
but that phrase no longer makes me soften.
seasons change as i stay the same,
never learning the lesson in my story's prologue.
though this happens time and time again,
through the snow and rain and fog.
so i continue my journey of falling,
falling for the wrong people, then hitting rock bottom.
along the way my tears will be calling
for me to let them fall in Autumn.
