It's Sunday.
I'm on my way to Evan's house.
After hours of pondering I decided that the best course of action was to try and fix what broke.
So here I am. In the car. On my way to his house.
I still don't know how to face him.
It's foolish to wish that I won't run into him when I'm actually going to his house.
The car turns. We're almost there.
I walk over to the door and ring the bell.
Evan's Mom, Mrs. Mason, opens the door.
'You came for Evan, right? He's out with a few of his friends. But do come in'
He's not home! He is actually not home.
'Yes, Ma'am'
I enter the house. Mrs. Mason leads me to the dining table.
'Chocolate milk? You didn't get to have any yesterday'
'Sure'
I sit there awkwardly as she takes the milk out of the fridge.
'You don't have to worry about what happened yesterday, its not a big deal'
'May I ask a question?'
'Sure'
'What exactly did I break yesterday?', I ask
Mrs. Mason takes a deep breath and then smiles.
'You see, his dad died about a year ago. It was something that he left behind. Evan just took an unhealthy liking to it, that's all.'
It was something that important to him. I broke something that meant a lot to him. That's why he cried.
I made him cry
'Cheer up, young man. It was an accident. No one blames you for that', She reassures me.
'May I have the broken parts?', that's what I'm here for, after all.
'Sure. May I ask why?' I didn't expect her to comply.
'I can fix it'
'Oh, there's no need for tha-
'It's alright. I want to'
She looks surprised for some reason. Was I rude?
Mrs. Mason places the glass with milk on my table
And she walks up to his bedroom.
I down the contents of the glass as she comes back.
'Here you go', She says, handing over a paper bag with the broken bits.
'Thank you' I say giving her back the glass as I get up to leave.
'Don't you have something you want to tell Evan', She says as I'm about to leave the door
'Ma'am, please don't tell him that I was here', It's best if he doesn't know.
'Sure, See you around. Kay?'
'Yea. Thanks again'. I say as I walk away.
I sit in the car as I examine the contents.
I hope this'll make up for it.
