"We should all go out for dinner tonight."
Everyone inside the break room turns to Isabel, whose eyes were glued to her phone. The redhead then whirls around to show Historia her screen, "How does this place look? Cool, right?"
Armin closes the book in his hand. "I've been craving something savoury lately. How about you guys?"
"Hm, how about we go clubbing? It's been a while since the last time." Hanji suggests. "I could use a drink or two right now -- no, actually I wanna get wasted--"
"Moblit won't let you, Zoë." A small chuckle slips past Nanaba's lips as she receives a "hmph" from the bespectacled brunette.
"Plus, we can't bring Farlan somewhere too rowdy... at least not yet."
(Y/n), who had been staying quiet for the past 30 minutes, quickly glanced at the short-haired blonde who had mentioned Farlan all of a sudden.
That's right: Farlan was to be released from the medical ward today. Mikasa told everyone the news during their lunch break, they just had to run some tests before they could officially let him go.
"Y'all in the mood for a long car ride? Heard somethin' about a highly-rated restaurant in Chlorba, wanna check it out?" Isabel asks the group as she puts her device back in her pocket. A few hums resonate inside the room, indicating their positive response to the pigtailed girl's question.
"Alright, then let's just inform the others about it later. How many of us brought our cars?"
Deciding to finally join the conversation, (Y/n) raises her hand. "I brought mine." She utters. Historia also lifts her arm up in the air, along with Nanaba.
Should I come with them later? The (h/c)-haired psychiatrist retracts her hand, adjusting the sleeves of her white coat whilst listening to everyone's plan for the evening. Her hesitance was brought by the thought of speaking to Farlan after a long time of not doing so.
What if Levi finds out?
Again?
This shouldn't be a question, (Y/n) moistens her lips with her tongue.
I want to see Farlan again too.
|| 4:35 p.m. ||
(Y/n) observes Mikasa and Frieda, the two doctors each holding a white folder to their faces as they read the papers encased in them. Taking a peek inside of Marcel's room, (Y/n) asks, "Is he getting any better?"
"Thankfully, yes. The progress is slow, but he's getting there." Mikasa replies as she passes the folder to the psychiatrist. "It's my first time using the titan serum on one of my patients. It really is effective."
"It should be. We're planning on releasing it globally soon." Frieda also gives her folder to (Y/n), who examined the contents as soon as she received it.
(Y/n) nods her head gently whilst her eyes skimmed the data on the papers. "After keeping it to ourselves for almost a year huh..." She mumbles to herself before giving the patient's files back to his doctor. "Let's go, Shadis is waiting."
"Did he tell you why he called for us?" The blue-eyed female walks beside (Y/n), tucking a loose hair strand behind her ear. (Y/n) only shrugs at the doctor's query before she responds, "I'm not quite sure, but I think it's about that new vaccine the lab's working on."
Bet he's gonna ask us for help to test it. (Y/n) emits a small sigh; just having to imagine the testing they have to do on the criminals they've captured, as much as it's fun sometimes, it gets tiring too.
The three finally reach the lobby after minutes of walking and chatting together.
The smile on (Y/n)'s face slightly fades when they arrive. She didn't expect to see Farlan standing right beside their surgeon general.
The blond notices her arrival from the corner of his eye. He couldn't mistake that (h/c) (h/l) hair and that figure for anyone else, those unique features only belong to the woman he adored. Elated, Farlan shoots the psychiatrist a smile as he waves at her.
"You look stressed, has work been treating you like shit recently?" He teased, (Y/n) giggling lightly as a response. "It's good to see you moving around again, Farlan." (Y/n) offers the taller male a small grin, careful not to appear too excited in front of him. Keith was watching them interact too. (Y/n) wouldn't want the old man to insert one of his chaff comments to embarrass her.
Besides, seeing Farlan's state was enough. No unnecessary exchanges were needed. Her inner self opposed to do so, anyway.
"What did you need us for, Keith?" (Y/n) walks past Farlan as she spoke. He hoped to have a longer chat with her, but Farlan doesn't blame her for brushing him aside. She was raised to put work over anything else, it was something she never lacked of doing.
(Y/n), alongside the other doctors and workers gathered in the lobby, listens closely to the head doctor's instructions. Right after explaining the details of the operation, Keith directs them to another building, where a group of armed soldiers and criminals strapped to wheelchairs were already waiting for them.
(Y/n) witnesses the legionaries salute to their lieutenant commander as he approached them. Some of the bound convicts glare at Farlan, instantly recognizing him as one of the men who put each of them behind bars.
This bunch... (Y/n) scans the prisoners's features with a blank face, they're the ones behind the massive porn site for minors, all caught three months ago.
Glad I'm contributing to their torture, then.
"Bring them inside, we'll start in twenty minutes." The soldiers heed to Keith's order, pushing the inmates inside the building.
"Pixis and Zacharius are inside. Bozado, Church, lead the doctors to Lab Beta One," Keith turns to (Y/n), "all the paperwork you need for this are in there. Equipment and tubes that need your attention too. We'll meet in Lab Alpha in fifteen." "Copy that."
The doctors follow Oluo and Farlan as they run through the entrance, their quick footsteps echoing in the white hallway. Farlan glances at (Y/n) who jogged right behind him, then decides to slow down for him to run beside her.
"You're supposed to be resting, you know." (Y/n) tells the injured blond. Farlan scoffs, "Thanks for the concern but I'm not as weak as you think I am, you know?"
The psychiatrist eyes him, her lips curling upwards because of the playful smirk on his. A gratifying feeling filled her heart now that everything seemed to be back to how they used to be.
Except for one thing.
"𝙳𝚘 𝙸 𝚕𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚊 𝚏𝚞𝚌𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚠𝚎𝚊𝚔𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞?"
(Y/n) swallows a spit, a constraining sensation erupting from the base of her neck up as Levi's voice enters her thoughts. Her smile falls apart now that she felt the discomforting churn in her stomach brought by her memory. Gaze now returning to the front, she wears a stolid facade.
"If you say so." She utters monotonously.
Neither Farlan nor (Y/n) spoke after that. He didn't want to distract her from their job at hand since she appeared to take it very seriously. At which (Y/n) internally thanked the blond for.
She couldn't take more of the suffocating glares from the nonexistent steel-grey eyes watching her every move.
