"Thank you, Kageyama! I appreciate it!"

"Yeah, whatever," he mutters in response, turning his head away from you as he sucks through the straw of his milk box, his ears picking up the sound of you unwrapping the straw and poking it through the hole at the top. The sidewalks were empty, you two being the only ones residing on the light pavement on the side of the road while you bask in the warm sunlight and the sweet smell of freshly cut grass and beautifully blooming flowers. The white clouds that float in the sky made shapes, ones that would shift and warp into new ones every couple seconds.

"Hey, look at that," you point towards a little bird at the top of a tree, the bright green leaves contradicting the alluring blue skies that make you think content is eternal. His head perks up, his dark blue eyes trying to find where your finger gestured to, coming unsuccessful.

"Where?"

"Riiiight there," you whisper as you take a step sideways towards his body while your hands gently grab his arm, your agile fingers tickle his skin as they slide down his limb, tangling with his own fingers before you bring them up to point straight to the passerine. Warmth surrounds him as he looks up towards the gorgeously colored bird, your hand holding his in the air like it was supposed to be like that. That's the moment you could feel his fingers grip yours tighter, his arm now carrying the weight of your hand instead of the other way around, your arm relaxing against his. He brought his arm down, forcing yours with as they rest beside you two, nervous tingles erupting in your abdomen, not knowing the same thing was happening to him. His hands didn't just look good on the court, they felt nice, too.

The ghost of his fingertips glides against your skin just like it did yesterday, your mind refusing to let you think about other things as the memory of him holding your hand silently while walking you home, not a word coming out of either of your mouths. It was a comfortable mellowness when his fingers unlaced themselves with yours, letting you walk away from him as you nod goodbye with a smile, a hesitant dip of his head as a response. He hoped you hadn't seen the pink on his cheeks and the upward tilt of the corners of his lips after you had disappeared behind your closing door. The snugness of his grasp made it seem like it would happen again, which in turn, ignited a spark in your nerves.

That's why you didn't care to avoid him, walking right up to him with a grin to show him how happy you are to see him. "Hey, Kageyama-kun!"

No response.

"Kageyama?"

Ignored.

"Hello?"

Silence.

What was his deal? He hadn't even taken the time to look at you. It felt like one of the first times he interacted with you. His mind elsewhere and his eyes distracted with something that he knew wasn't important, but he just didn't want to listen to what was coming out of your annoying mouth. You huffed at him, crossing your arms and furrowing your brow in frustration.

"Is it because of yesterday? Do you want me to forget about it? Because Kageyama, I really don't wa-"

His piercing glare that side-eyed you forced your words at a full stop, only a soft exhale coming out of your mouth once you eye him in realization.

...He really didn't want to talk about this, did he?

The disappointment that crossed your face wasn't enough to show how you felt on the inside; your frown and your sorrow-filled eyes turning down towards the floor once you turned to walk away. You clench your fists together to keep them still, your feet guiding you onward towards your classroom as you try your best to keep your head up, Kageyama's feelings needing to be the least of your worries right now. You had priorities, and this was not going to be one of them. You refused.

Your day felt...cold. Vacant. It was like an empty room that seemed much different and bigger without all of it's things inside, the floors seeming less homy and more like you were a stranger to your own room- like you didn't belong in the first place. Classes rolled around with your head on your folded arms on the table, the scent of your freshly washed clothes filling your senses. You could fall asleep right now.

"Y/n? Y/nnnnnn, Y/N!"

You open your eyes with a jolt, your body jumping at the shout of your name. "Huh? What?"

Oh. Maybe you did fall asleep.

"School ended like twenty minutes ago, why are you still here?" You look up to find a gingered first year by your side holding a stack of paper and a concerned expression. "Don't you have practice with the girls?"

Oh yeah. You have actual practice. "Oh, uh, yeah, but it doesn't start until like, ten minutes, or something," you yawn, stretching your arms as you shift in your seat to stand up.

"Are you okay?" He asks worriedly, your tired demeanor not paying him much attention once you grab your bag and turn away from him. "You seem a little...out of it..."

"Huh? No, I'm good, thanks. Gotta head to practice! See ya, Hinata-kun." You close the door behind you, leaving a very confused and muddled red-head by himself.

~.~.~.~

"Kageyama what did you do?" The first year shouts as he walks inside the locker room, the other boys turning around to see what the matter was.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"You know exactly what I mean, Kageyama, what did you do?" Kageyama pauses his movements to ponder over his actions, his brain not giving him any solutions to his question. "Y/n, stupid!" He yells at the dark haired boy, watching his eyes immediately broaden and his mouth gape open for just a half of a second before pretending to think he didn't know. Dumbass.

"Wait, what happened with Y/n?" Yamaguchi asks curiously, Tsukishima next to him rolling his eyes as his friend gets invested in the story.

"Yeah, Kageyama, did you do something?" The second years spoke up, Ennoshita and Nishinoya taking a step forward towards the younger boys.

"What's going on?" Sugawara chimes in as he walks into the locker room, Asahi giving him a worried look before he gestures to Kageyama and Hinata, Suga's happy face fading.

"I didn't do anything? What are you going on about, Dumbass?"

"Yes, you did! I saw it!"

"I'm sorry?" Tanaka questions, stepping closer towards the taller man. What did he mean by that?

"You saw what, Hinata?" Suga asks as he sets his bag down while making his way over towards the boys.

"Him and Y/n! Yesterday!" Kageyama's face reddens as he realizes someone, let alone his best friend, has witnessed the events of yesterday. "And today she was totally net herself! It's your fault, isn't it?" Hinata puts a finger against Kageyama's chest, accusing.

"Wait, hold on, I'm confused," Yamaguchi speaks up, "Kageyama and Y/n were hanging out yesterday? And you, Hinata, saw them together? What does that matter to how she is today?" The rest of the locker room agrees with him, turning their attention to the ginger once more before he explains.

"They were holding hands, that's why!"

"They were WHAT?"

"You two are together?"

"Holy shit! Kageyama's got a girlfriend!"

"Jesus Christ."

"What? No! We aren't! Shut up! All of you! Shut up!" Kageyama yelps as he gets cornered into his locker, panicking.

"Everybody, listen up!" Suga calls from the sidelines, silencing the crowd. "Let's let the boys explain, please, before bombarding them with stupid questions, okay?" He plasters a smile on his deadly demeanor, the boys staying quiet. "Hinata? What's wrong with Y/n, we can get to the hand holding later."

"She was all...she was all...gloomy, or something."

"Gloomy...?" Yamaguchi asks.

"Yeah! She fell asleep in class and would've slept through her practice if I didn't wake her up before it started!" Kageyama was confused, to say the least. He meant, you had always paid attention in class, and was ecstatic about your practices, so sleeping through it wasn't something you would do. His narrowed eyes stared at the floor while the others listened to Hinata. "This morning she was perfectly fine!"

"Hey, Y/n! How was your weekend?" A certain ginger shouts as you walk through the front doors of Karasuno, jogging your way and slowing down once his movements are in sync with yours.

"It was good, how about you, Hinata?" You answer, greeting him with a smile.

"Oh, it was good, you know, hangin' out... oh! I was supposed to hangout with Kageyama." He slows suspiciously, pursing his lips and leaning his head forward. "You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, right?"

"About him not hanging out with you? No, I don't think so, why?" You look at him cluelessly, waiting for his explanation.

"Hmm, that's funny," he teases, putting a hand on his chin to place a little extra sarcasm on his words, "considering I saw you two hanging out at Ukai's store yesterday." That wasn't the only thing he saw.

"Oh," you mumble; you stared at him for a couple seconds as what could only look like you were recalling a memory of yesterday, before your eyes widened slightly in guilt.

"I'm so sorry, Hinata! I swear I didn't mean to take him! You can have him next weekend, I promise!" You frantically wave your hands in front of him, as if worried he might get the wrong idea and think you were taking him away from him. He knew you wouldn't, without him Kageyama wouldn't have any friends.

"Next weekend, huh?" His back straightens as he questions you, his arms folding together. "So you were planning on hanging out with him?"

"Uh- no? I mean, yes, but not like that-" Hinata's smirk shows slowly as you stumble across your words, your eyes jumping to the different colors of his uniform. "It's for volleyball only, I promise!"

"So how come you guys were at Ukai's store yesterday?" He couldn't help but tease and egg.

"Hinata, we were just hungry. We had been practicing all day, we needed something in our systems."

"Mhm...okay..." he hums in doubt, letting you know he doesn't believe you. He backs away, letting you walk to your class in peace. His gaze lingers on your trail, thoughts wandering through his brain and curiosity fills his mind as he wonders how you two have gotten so close so fast. He didn't tell you guys that he saw you two walk out of the store, walking a ways before your hands linked up. He didn't tell you that he was so close to teasing you both right then and there, but resisted the urge before turning away and letting you two enjoy the moment.

"Well I didn't talk to her! So why would I have anything to do with it!"

"You know, Kageyama," Yamaguchi advanced, pausing his arms before putting his shirt on, "maybe that's the reason."

"What?"

"Yeah, I mean, after whatever... you two did yesterday, she would be excited to see you, right? Based off of what Hinata said, that must be it, so you not talking to her made her sad or something, I don't know."

"Woahhhh, Yamaguchi's so much smarter than I thought he was," Noya breathes out as he stares in awe at the boy with green hair.

Kageyama's ears are steaming, a murderous scowl thrown at anyone who looked at him at that moment. He picks his clothes up off the bench, throwing them in his bag before he stomps out, ignoring every single one of their remarks, including Tsukishima's "the King must be mad," taunt.

He didn't need this. He needed to be alone.
