When Seokjin said that he Yoongi to take over his winter holiday job, Yoongi wasn't sure what to expect, probably just standing at the counter and smiling at people. Which yes, he would have hated, but somehow the reality of what it was sucked over more, and he really wanted to kill Seokjin.
The first day he showed up at the job, 3 different girls fawned over him, talking about how he was perfect. Which yes, did make Yoongi's very gay ass a little bit uncomfortable, but okay, he could accept it.
Then he found out what his job actually was, he was working at a winter wonderland, he was an elf.
He was not happy.
He was gonna kill Seokjin.
The first time he got back from the job, he had already planned out all the grim and terrible ways that he could and would kill the other man, luckily for him, Seokjin seemed to realise that his life was indeed very much in danger, as he had a full meal of Yoongi's favourites prepared for the shorter mint haired man.
"I am still gonna kill you in your sleep." the threat has no real fire to it, as Yoongi's cheeks were poofed as a hamster while saying it, busy filling his mouth with delicious food.
Seokjin just smiled, pushing more food onto the skinny man's plate "my friend Namjoon works there as well, he works at one of the stores, and he said that you can come over to him at any point where you need it, to either talk or to get some candied apples."
"Please tell me he is less of a crackhead than the last one." the last one of his friends that Yoongi had met was a young man called Jungkook and not only was Yoongi sure that he was what happened when you mixed the easter bunny and popeye, which yes was weird he also started off seemingly scared of Yoongi and then turned to just talking his ear off, seemingly he boiled down to videogames and lamb skewers.
Jungkook was a nice kid, but god not what Yoongi needed when he was stressed from playing a damn elf! Yoongi had nothing against kids, he really didn't, but they kinda scared him, especially when they looked up at him with those big innocent eyes and then talk about whatever the hell a Hanzo was.
Seokjin just laughed that trademark windshield whipper laugh, Yoongi had no idea how somebody could be such a traditional beauty, but also laugh like that and make the worst dad jokes he had ever heard! It wasn't normal, Seokjin wasn't normal!
"No Joonie is pretty normal, a little nerdy, but very sweet. Treat him kindly! Or I will have to kick your ass, he is the sweetest little thing ever."
What Yoongi expected to greet him when he went to the candy apple stand the next day was somebody like Jimin, a tiny guy with a soft eye smile and soft tiny hands.
That was not what greeted him at the candy apple shop, nope... not at all.
When he came home, the first thing he said to Seokjin was "why didn't you warn me?"
Seokjin knew his friend well and knew exactly what it was that he was talking about, but decided to play dumb just for the fun of it "warn you? I am not sure what you meant?"
The younger, still wearing his elf gear from the winter wonderland just staring at him with an almost empty smile "why didn't you warn me that you are friend with an angel?"
Just as Seokjin had expected, it had all been a long plan of getting his forever single friends together, plus doing it that way Yoongi wouldn't give him shit for making him an elf, it had all been a long plan, god Seokjin was too fucking smart for this world if you asked him.
The man that had greeted Yoongi at the shop was indeed not like Jimin. Instead, the man was tall, even behind the wooden counter of the shop, it was clear that he was tall with never-ending legs. His hairs were a soft shade of purple framing his face and just making him look even sweeter, on top of his head were a long Santa hat, the end of it long enough to reach his waist. On top of that, he was wearing a soft-looking Christmas jumper, and last but not least... Just to finish Yoongi off, deep dimples were found in his cheeks as he smiled at Yoongi.
His voice was much deeper than Yoongi would have expected as he spoke up "you must be Yoongi, right? Seokjin's friend?" he leaned his arms on the counter and then laid his head on the arms.
God Yoongi was so fucked, Namjoon was every perfect dream that Yoongi had ever had. Yoongi was normally a smooth person, well Jimin and Hoseok said he was, but he was very well aware that he had very much not been smooth when it came to Namjoon, he more or less stuttered when he answered.
Maybe it was his brain that was trying to save him from memory, but he honestly could not remember what they had talked about, he was pretty sure that they kinda had held a conversation, that he had learned that Namjoon attended the same university as him and Seokjin, but was a year below them, hence why Yoongi had never seen the 8th world wonder that was the man in front of him.
And he rapped... and produced music.
God, he was perfect, how could one person be so perfect?
After that Yoongi spent every break, he had at Namjoon's candy apple store, fuck Yoongi didn't even like a candied apple, but watching Namjoon talk to kids as he handed them the treat, was a treat for Yoongi.
He got to know Namjoon little by little, and while he at first had hated the job, but he was slowly starting to look forward to work every day, no that was a lie, he really could do without everybody's crotch demon trying to harras him, but seeing Namjoon... It was the high point of his day.
Seokjin was starting to regret his life choices, he had just assumed that his friends would actually ask out each other, not just... pine for each other! What the hell was wrong with them, wasn't it clear that they liked each other?
"Just... ask... him... out..." Seokjin was slowly considering if Yoongi was just a lost course and he should just already give up, but he couldn't give up on a friend that wasn't how being friends worked!
But holy shit he wanted to!
"No, you don't get it, I can't just ask him out!" Yoongi was swirling around hin his chair in the makeshift room he used as a studio. All the music he had started to create all reminded him of Namjoon, it was for Namjoon... About Namjoon... It was just... Namjoon was everywhere.
Yoongi couldn't stop himself from creating music and just think 'Namjoon's voice would be perfect here.' he had even stalked the youngers SoundCloud cause he needed to know if he was good or not, while he was sure that he would probably still like Namjoon if he was bad at rapping, but it would mean the world to Yoongi if he was actually good at it.
He was good...
He was damn good!
His deep voice pairing with the more slow-paced rapping was a perfect mix.
"Of course you can! What else would you do! He is just a person, I am sure he would say yes, he already likes you! This is just dumb, you are both acting like children!" Seokjin was starting to seriously consider if they should just both get a spanking, if they wanted to act like Children then maybe he should treat them like children.
Yoongi sighed "I have to do something special, he deserves something special, so he knows what he is worth."
That was the problem, Yoongi over thought everything and Namjoon was a little insecure, so there was no chance that he would ever get Namjoon to confess to Yoongi, hence why it was Yoongi he was working on.
"Give him some flowers then! God, why do you have to be like this?" Seokjin needed Xanax.
"I can't do that." Yoongi had swirled around his chair, so he was looking at his screen, "flowers are for normies, music, we speak the language of music. I need to confess to music, but nothing is good enough for him."
Seokjin just sighed at that point, "I hope the world fucks you over and just forces it out of you, cause you work on music at the same speed as a snail."
Yoongi had just ignored the comment, maybe that was where it all went wrong, he should never ignore Seokjin, the universe had taught him that years ago.
The world fucked over Yoongi, of course, it did, it fucked him over hard. First, there was the problem of actually writing and producing a song, taking his real and very there feelings and putting them into a song, something that turned out not to be that easy for him.
It took him almost a full week before he finally had something he wanted to write, lyrics done, he started on recording and producing, he did a bunch of different takes wanting it to be perfect.
When he went to check his takes, it turned out that his mic was muted, meaning he had to rerecord everything over again! Then when he started to produce one evening where the inspiration had really hit him, his software crashed right before he was done and somehow in his inspiration, he had forgotten to save.
When he started over again, he somehow managed to corrupt the audio, leading to him having to record audio again.
It was getting closer and closer to Christmas, and Yoongi was slowly starting to think that the world didn't want him to be with Namjoon. He wanted to scream in frustration, and Namjoon himself didn't make it better. The sweet-faced rapper had realised that something was bothering Yoongi, and while Yoongi refused to tell him what it was that was bothering him, that didn't stop Namjoon from smiling at him, eye smile showing and dimples deep, telling Yoongi that he was sure that everything was gonna be okay.
Why was Namjoon so sweet, who allowed him to be so sweet? That just wasn't okay.
Yoongi was so close to giving up, it wasn't until one of the last days he worked there he went to see Namjoon on his break, only to see Namjoon talk to somebody else. A muscled blonde man, Yoongi recognised him as Jackson Wang. Jackson worked in the wonderland with them, just like Yoongi he worked as an elf.
Namjoon's body language was relaxed and easy, he clearly knew Jackson well, which didn't surprise Yoongi, Jackson seemed to know pretty much everybody at the park, he was the definition of a social butterfly, he was one of the most friendly people worked as an elf, the kids loved him.
Where Namjoon was relaxed and calm, Jackson's body language wasn't. He was wringing his hands in front of him, and his posture was awkward, as Yoongi got closer he caught the end of the sentence, Jackson was speaking "it would just be you and me... like a date."
Oh... Jackson was asking him out.
Yoongi felt an ugly feeling take a grip of his heart, he didn't know why he had never considered that somebody else might ask out Namjoon... He had just assumed that Namjoon would stay single until Yoongi managed to finish his gift, his big confession, but here he was... nowhere close to done or ready, and Jackson had just asked him out.
He knew that Namjoon wasn't his, that he didn't own the other man, and if Namjoon said yes to this date... Yoongi would accept it, cause that was just what a real none piece of shit human would do, but he knew that he would be hurt.
Namjoon's smile was kinda as he shook his head "I like you, Jackson, you are a great friend, but I just... I can't see you that way, we are friends, and I don't want something other than that."
Now that... was not what Yoongi had expected, but he felt a little bit of that angry green feeling release his heart, maybe he still had a chance, maybe he wouldn't be forever alone.
Jackson just hung his shoulder before nodding, kindness was in his voice as he spoke up, "okay I thought I would at least ask, you are too good to let go." he seemingly held no hard feeling about being turned down, cause Jackson was just way too good a guy, "I hope it won't be awkward between us? I would like to still be friends!"
"We are gonna be just fine, we will always be friends." Namjoon leaned on his hands again over the counter, that way that always made Yoongi's heart pick up "now get back to your position, you should know better than to leave Mark with all the work! Off you go!"
Reaching over the counter, Jackson gave the other man a quick hug before hurrying back to the elf place where he worked with Mark.
He gave Yoongi a nice and friendly small when he crossed him, as to show there was no hard feeling between them, even if he knew that Yoongi was after Namjoon as well... Cause the entire park knew that Yoongi had a mountain-sized crush on Namjoon.
Namjoon greeted Yoongi with a smile and opening up the stall so Yoongi could sit in the back while he was working, a quick hug was exchanged between them, and Yoongi honestly wanted to just be wrapped in Namjoon's arms and die happily.
No words were exchanged between them, none were really needed, Yoongi was still trying to wrap his head around what he had seen, and Namjoon didn't realise that it was really hitting Yoongi hard, Namjoon was... very bad at noticing other people's feelings, he had been pretty naive.
"So Jackson..." god Yoongi wanted to hit himself, he really didn't want to talk about it, but apparently his mouth had decided he wanted to talk about it, even tho his brain was yelling
'NO STOP'.
Namjoon to his just shrugged handing an apple to a young girl dressed in a Santa hat, telling her how sweet she looked, before turning to Yoongi as there were no other customers "yeah, I really didn't see it coming, I thought for sure that him and Mark would get together, Mark has such a big crush on him, I feel so bad for him." again he smiled walking over to sit next to Yoongi while waiting for somebody else to arrive at the shop "maybe I should have said yes to Jackson, at least tried it out."
The purple-haired man sighed heavily, leaning back against the wall behind him with his eyes closed. The green monster in Yoongi's stomach made itself known again, really not liking the idea of Namjoon and Jackson together, liking the idea even less with the thought that Namjoon might actually hunt down Jackson just to say yes to him.
"Why?" he tried to keep his voice calm and none caring, but it was nowhere near as easy as he wanted to, luckily Namjoon might be the smartest person Yoongi knew, but he was also naive as fuck.
He shrugged again, leaning his head on Yoongi's shoulder like he had so many times before "Seokjin says I need to just try dating somebody, instead of waiting for who I want, just try something... else I am gonna be forever alone, and he says that would be sad."
Yoongi took back every nice word he had ever thought of Seokjin, he knew that Yoongi liked Namjoon, but he was still pushing Namjoon to date somebody else, seemingly he had given up on hoping that Yoongi would get his shit together.
All thoughts of waiting until his music was done, all thoughts of confessing with music, the thought of everything went out of Yoongi's head. All he could think was that Seokjin was pushing Namjoon into dating, and if Yoongi didn't get his shit together, Namjoon would end up with somebody else, and he just... No, he couldn't deal with that.
He took one deep breath, wanting to get his shit together before looking at the sweet looking man leaning his head on Yoongi's shoulder before slowly saying "you shouldn't date Jackson?"
"Oh?" Namjoon still didn't open his eyes, or move away from Yoongi, seemingly happy just lying with his head on the olders shoulders "didn't know you care about my dating life? Then who should I date if not Jackson?"
Yoongi would be blind to not see the opening given to him, maybe the universe was finally taking some pity on him. He just... needed to go for it.
There was silence between the two of them, for almost 30 seconds before Yoongi finally managed to get it out, before he finally managed to get his shit together, taking a breath before saying "me... you should date me."
Now that got a reaction from Namjoon, who finally removed his head from Yoongi's shoulder, to look at the older man still dressed in his green elf suit with a confused look "what did you say?" the tone of voice was a nearly panicked sound to it like he was struggling to really believe that Yoongi had actually said what he had.
Yoongi looked at him, his much smaller hand seeking out Namjoon's warm one, still covered in fingerless gloves "me, you should date me. We like the same things, we get along so well, we would be really good together, and I really like you. I had this whole plan on how to confess to you, it was gonna be with music cause I know you love music. Music is one of the biggest things we have in common, so it just fit so well, but firs the recordings were bad, then the software crashed, then the audio files got corrupted... No matter how much I tried, it seemed that the world was against me."
It was the most that Yoongi had ever spoken at once to Namjoon, but every word was slow and well-spoken, this wasn't just something he words vomited, this was something he had thought about before saying, this is something he wanted and meant.
Namjoon to his looked surprised like he had expected Yoongi to ever be interested in him, which knowing the younger Yoongi was sure was also a factor, Namjoon for some reason had a bad habit of talking himself down like he wasn't one of the prettiest people in the world and his passion for so many different things, just made him more attractive.
"For real? No joke? You are serious." Yoongi had heard the story of how a former friend of Namjoon's had asked him out, and when Namjoon happily had accepted, it turned out to just be a joke. While it hadn't meant to be a mean joke by his friend, but it was something that had stuck with Namjoon, and when Yoongi had to ask Seokjin about it, the older man had mumbled that he still blamed the friend for some of Namjoon's insecurity about himself.
"I would never joke about this," he still held Namjoon's warm hand in his "never. I want to date you, and I want you to date me if you can give me a chance. I am sure that we would be good together."
Namjoon looked down at their hands, and for a few seconds he seemed to think, Yoongi could feel his heart beating fast, he had said everything he could, now all he could do was hope that maybe... Namjoon would want him.
Then Namjoon intertwined their fingers, smiling at Yoongi "yeah... I think I would like that."
