The plane ride and the taxi to finally get to where Gold's son lived, took a long time! Gold was on edge the entire time, anything would set him off and make him yell at you. Henry had stopped talking to him after being yelled at to chew quieter on the plane, while eating some chocolate pudding! When we got out of the cab later that day, you could see the fear in Gold's face as he started up at the building
"What's wrong? This is the right place isn't it?" Emma asked
"Yes it is" He replied
"Let me guess, he's not expecting you! Well, who doesn't love a surprise" Said Emma as she walked into the building followed by the rest of us. There was no one called Baelfire on the list of residents for apartments.
"Do any of these names mean anything to you?" Henry asked
"Well, names are what I traffic in, but sadly no" Said Gold
"Here's your boy" Said Emma pointing to an apartment number with no name
"Or it could just be vacant" Said Gold
"You might traffic in names and magic, but I traffic in finding people that don't want to be found, and those sort of folks don't advertise their whereabouts" Said Emma pressing the button for the apartment. The person in the apartment answered the buzzer to allow Emma to talk "UPS package for 407" She said. They cut her off and didn't open the gate
"Maybe you should have said FedEx" Said Henry. There was a bang outside as the guy ran down the fire escape from his apartment. We watched him as he climbed down
"That favour you owe me! This is it! Get him to talk to me, I can't run" Said Gold to Emma
"Watch them, I'll be back" Said Emma as she chased after the guy. Henry and I waited with Gold inside the entrance to the apartment block, waiting for Emma to come back.
"Don't worry. Emma's really good at catching people" Said Henry as we walked to the hot dog stand
"Well my son's been running away for a long time now" Said Gold "Now I have a feeling he's equally adept at it"
"Can you blame him for running" I mumbled under my breath getting a look from Gold
"Well, at least you found him, right?" Said Henry
"Indeed" Said Gold
"Oh and thanks for the hot dog" Said Henry
"You are quite welcome... and thank you" Said Gold to Henry
"For what?" Henry asked
"Well if it wasn't for you bringing Emma to Storybrook, none of this would have come to pass" Said Gold "You are a remarkable young man"
"You know, I forgave her. Emma, for giving me up. She thought it was the best for me then, that's why she did it. I'm sure your son will get it too" Said Henry
"Alas, the circumstances surrounding our separation were not quite so noble" Said Gold
"It's a bit more complicated than you and Emma Kid" I said
"But you're here now. And you want him back right?" Henry asked
"More than anything" Said Gold
"Then that's all that matters" Said Henry. We sat inside again waiting for Emma to come back.
"Why are you so nervous? When I found my mom, I was excited" Said Henry
"Because I have the benefit of a little bit more life experience" Said Gold "I know that things don't always happen the way we want them to"
"But in my book it says you can see the future. Why can't you just look and see what's going to happen? Or is it like Hope? Where you can't control what you see or you have to be asleep to see it?" Henry asked
"Well that ability is complicated. I didn't always have it, And then when I did, well, it's maybe not the gift one would expect. Seeing the inevitable, can be a terrible price" Said Gold
"But you wouldn't have to worry about stuff. You'd just know" Said Henry
"But that's the great trap. The future, is like a puzzle, with missing pieces. Difficult to read and never, never what you think" Said Gold. Suddenly Emma came walking into the building, alone.
"Hey, I'm sorry. He got away" Said Emma. Gold was angry and started lashing out, pressing all the buttons to try and get someone to open the gate and let us in
"What are you doing?" Emma asked
"Going to find my son" Said Gold
"He's gone" Emma protested
"He lives here, he'll be back and I'll be waiting" Said Gold going up the stairs to his apartment
"Stop you can't just break in" Said Emma
"Well actually that's something I'm quite adept at" Said Gold picking the lock
"He might not come back" Said Emma trying to convince Gold to leave
"Finding people is what you do Miss Swan, I'm simply going to assist you. There may be information in here" Said Gold
"Don't do this, there are things called laws" Said Emma
"I'll be look out" Said Henry going down the hall
"No-" Emma sighed just as Gold unlocked the door and went walking in. He searched the place looking for something, anything that would give him information on his son.
"You found something dearie?" Gold asked suspicious
"Huh? No nothing, it just looks like a dream catcher" Said Emma
"Well if it's nothing, why are you still holding it?" Gold asked "You're lying to me"
"Just get back to looking Ok?" Said Emma
"No, no, no! You saw something, tell me" Said Gold
"You don't know what-"
"TELL ME!" Gold yelled
"Henry go wait in the bathroom" Said Emma
"But I can help-" Said Henry
"Henry go! Hope, go with him" Said Emma aggressively. I took Henry to the bathroom, already knowing what it was about. I had dreamt of today, a while ago, but I still remembered it. Henry had to stay here, I had to keep him here, or things would go badly with him and Emma. The door muffled the voices on the other side making it hard to hear what was going on. There was obviously a lot of yelling and banging as Gold got more and more pissed off. But suddenly it stopped. A door opened and closed, someone was here. Bae probably. Henry decided to go see what was happening and walked out the bathroom
"Henry get back here!" I said chasing after him
"Mom what's going on?" He asked
"Who's this?" Bae asked
"My son" Emma replied
"What?" Bae asked
"I need you to stay in the other room for a little while longer ok? Come on" Said Emma putting her arm around Henry
"Wait, how old are you?" Bae asked
"Don't answer him" Emma said continuing to the next room
"HOW OLD ARE YOU KID?!" Bae yelled
"11! NOW WHY IS EVERYONE YELLING?!" Henry yelled back
"He's 11?... Is this my son?" Bae asked
"No. My dad was a fireman. He died" Said Henry
"Is this my son?" Bae asked again
"Yes" Said Emma stroking Henry's face. He backed away from her and climbed out onto the fire escape. I went after him followed by Emma. I sat next to him and put my arm around him, I could see how hurt he was by Emma lying to him.
"So that's him" Said Henry "Why didn't you tell me?" Henry asked
"Because I never thought that I would see him again. I never wanted to" Said Emma
"Why not?" Henry asked
"He was a thief Henry. A liar, a bad guy, and he... he broke my heart" Said Emma
"I could have taken it you know" Said Henry
"I know, he was just a part of my life I wanted to forget. That's why I didn't tell you" Said Emma
"I thought you were different. But you're just like her, Regina. She always lied to me too" Said Henry
"I'm sorry" Said Emma
"I want to meet my dad" Henry said. Emma went back through the window to go get Bae.
"Do you want me to stay or go?" I asked
"Stay... your the only one who hasn't lied to me" He said hugging me. We stayed there waiting for Bae to come out. I had never seen Henry this hurt before, he trusted Emma more than anyone else, and she had lied to him, broke his trust. Gaining trust back, it's one of the hardest things to do. Henry got up and went to the railing while I stayed on the stairs. Bae climbed through the window and joined him
"So your my dad" Said Henry
"Yeah" He replied
"I'm Henry"
"Nice to meet you Henry... sorry it took so long" Bae replied
"It's ok. You didn't know" Henry said back to him. They talked for a while and when I knew Henry felt good about meeting Bae, I snuck back through the window to leave them alone. They talked for ages out there alone. Henry looked happy though, and that was the important thing.
