Mich and I were walking into class while Riley and Maya talking about whatever the hell they were talking about. We still haven't spoken to them and Mich still has been sleeping over my house so it's been a couple of days since the party. The boys plus Farkle sometime come over and we have a huge sleepover. Maya and Riley haven't been inviting us to anything so what's the point of inviting them. Petty 101. Take notes class!
"Dej remember when we went to the store and then the clown jumped out on us?" Mich asked as we sat down and I started laughed.
"Yea, you never turned around so fast. You punched the shit out of him." I said laughing harder while she pouted. We didn't notice Riley and Maya staring at us longingly.
"You punched a clown?" The boys asked in unison.
"To my defense, I thought he was trying to kidnap me and Dej. We were not going to be snatch in front of freaking 7/11." She said making all of us start cracking up
"This is why we said we were going to go with you guys but nooo "I'm too independent for that shit" is that what you told us?" Liam asked and she nodded
"And did." We were just laughing and talking until Cory walked in, starting up class. I wasn't really paying attention until Mich hit my arm making me look up to see Zay. Oh shit... Lucas, Liam, Mich, and I slid down in our seats a bit so he wouldn't see us.
"A group in this room is going to be very surprised to see me." Zay said and I was really deciding whether I could make to the back door
"Am I in the group?" Riley asked making me roll my eyes. Does she know Zay? Why would it be her if they don't know each other?
"Don't know sugar, but could you get any cuter?" He asked making Mich and I quietly gag as Riley smiles at him
"Well I can't answer that." She says and thankfully Cory cut in.
"You got a transcript, kid?" He asked and Zay hands Cory the papers
"Do you think we could make a run for it?" I whispered to Mich and the Texans held us down
"If we're gonna deal with Zay's ass, then so are you." Liam hissed at us making us groan
"Isaiah Babineaux. From Austin, Texas." Cory reads aloud like a dumbass and everyone looks down at Mich, Lucas, and Liam. I slowly got to the floor and started crawling to the back door. Some students saw me and I just signaled them to be quiet and they nodded, chuckling.
"What are you doing here, Zay?" Lucas and Liam asked
"Well, the first thing I'm doing is waitin' for a better reaction from you guys." Zay said as I almost made it to the door. I had to pause a few times so Cory wouldn't see me.
"Have a seat right there, Mr. Babineaux." Cory says and Zay sits behind Liam
Riley turns around "do you guys know this Isaiah?"
"Yeah, tell 'em you know me good." Zay says
"How 'bout we talk later, okay?" Lucas asked
"Well, Mr. Babineaux, if you work out as well as last years new students. we're happy to have you." Cory says pointing at Lucas, Liam, and Mich. I was behind Yogi's seat and whispered to him
"Do you think you could open the back door without him noticing?" I asked he whispered back
"I can try." I nodded, thanking him.
"Not currently on probation? No disciplinary actions? They just let you wander free?" I heard Zay say and I winced. I have to get out of here before he opens his mouth.
Yogi decided to quickly open the door and ask Cory a question
"What is the secret of life?" He asked with Cory and Farkle staring at him.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Farkle. I know I'm not your daughter, but I too have value in this world. What is the secret of life?" Yogi says kind of throwing shade towards him without knowing. I chuckled a little before noticing Mich was staring at my empty seat.
"Fuck.." I muttered while Farkle was having his mental breakdown about Belgium and Cory talking about shit I don't care about.
"Yes, What do you got, Mr. moral compass?" Maya asked and Zay started laughing
"Did you just call Lucas Friar your moral compass? Ha, they called you moral compass!" He laughs hitting Lucas on the shoulder and Lucas turns around making him stop.
"Something bad is going to happen." Riley says
"Yeah. It occurs to me you're trying to tell us ranger Rick was a little different back in Texas." Maya says
"A little? What do they know, exactly? 'Cause I wouldn't wanna say anything wrong. They know you're a year older, right?" Zay says making me face palm
"Yeah. Now they do." Lucas said with a grim look on his face
"Oh, yeah, it's my fault. Look at you!" Zay yells and I stood before slowly walking half way through the door before Zay sadly said
"Where's Deja? Do they know her and Liam as well?" He asked making everyone look at my empty seat and I made eye contact with Cory half way out the door. Liam just banged his head on his desk as Maya and Riley looked at him
"Okay, that's enough, Mr. Babineaux." Cory says before looking at me "Ms. Hunter, please come sit." He says making everyone look at me. I groaned loudly before heading to my seat.
"Oh, so you know about them?" Zay asked
"I know all about Mr. Friar, Mr.Carter, and Ms.Hunter." Cory says making me groan again and look over at Zay
"If Lucas and Liam don't kill you after this, I will." I told him with murder in my eyes, making him scared.
"Excuse me?" Riley says making Mich and I roll our eyes at her
"Riley, you're shaking." Maya says
"Dad? You know something?" She asks Cory
"Back in Texas" Lucas says and I stopped him
"Luke you don't have tell them anything. It's your business. You chose when you are comfortable with telling them." I said making Riley glare at me
"We don't keep secret in the group." Riley said and I glared harder at her
"What fucking group Riley? It's always have and always been about you and Maya! There's no group if we're in the background, not equally important." I said and Lucas grabbed my hand
"I'm okay with telling them.. Back in Texas I did something. I had to leave." He says
"It was great! I mean, they threw him out of the whole school!" Zay said excitedly and I went to jump him but Lucas held me back.
"What?" She says before looking over at Liam
"I don't have to tell you my business Riley.. you won't be understanding as I thought. We just came here for a new start." Liam says looking away and Riley looked at me
"I don't know why you're looking at me. I'm not telling you two anything.. You guys never truly cared about me so what's the point? New York was a fresh state for me. Without anyone knowing me here. Knowing us here." I said and Zay raised his hand
"I know them." Zay says and Mich rolled her eyes
"You don't know two shits about Deja." She says making Zay look at her shocked. Riley looked over at and asked
"Do I know you?" And instantly I said
"No.. you don't.." as the bell rang and I walked out with my stuff.

I sat down with my lunch with Mich, Liam, Farkle, and Lucas when Riley and Maya walked over.
"Deny it." Riley says suddenly
"Riley." Liam says clearly annoyed
"Tell me whoever this Zay kid is, that he can't just come and change the Liam we know. Tell me nothing changes. Tell me that Lucas didn't do anything at his old school." She said before looked over at me
"Why are Maya and I the last ones to know what happened to you? Just tell me." She said
"That's all you have to do, Liam.. You hear me? I just called you by your actual name for the first time ever. That's how important this is to me. Because it's important to her. Deny it." Maya says and looks at me
"Deja.. please just tell us what happened.." she begged and I just continued eating my food.
"I can't... I don't want to relive what happened. As the first girl I've ever went on a date with.. you would understand.. that's why-" Liam cuts himself off making Lucas, Mich, Farkle, and I's eyes widen.. he almost told her.. Maya looked at us weirdly
"That's why what?" She asked and he just shook his head and walked off.
"I'll go talk to him.." I said standing up but Riley blocked my way.
"Tell us." Riley said
"Riley move." I said not trying to have this conversation with her or Maya
"No we knew you before her and you sided with her." She sneered
"Riley one, keep Mich out of your mouth. And two, the moment I joined the group, I felt like an outsider. It was Riley and Maya with Deja in the background. Yea, Mich and I had our problems when we first met but I could understand where she's coming from. Maya, knowing how I was feeling about my mom while her mom was still coming home said she didn't ask my mom to abandoned me. And you didn't come to my defense, you just sat there. Still, I forgave her and I thank god that I forgave Mich because she's one of the reasons I get through the day in this group. I never told you guys because I can't seem to trust you guys. I'm always there for you guys but the feelings aren't ever reciprocated." I said shocking them and I walked around Riley to find Liam. I saw him sitting against the lockers. I sat down next to him.
"Talk to me Li.." I said to him and he sighed
"I never liked Riley.." he said shocking me but I didn't say anything as he continued
"I thought I did.. maybe because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. You know how Riley is.. but I think I always liked Maya.." he says and I smirked a little.. Mich was right..
"But I never acted on it because I know how close her and Riley are. She'd never try anything with me since Riley likes me.. so I just kept acting like I returned the feelings that Riley had for me. But I can't anymore.. when she kissed me, it felt weird. Like I was kissing a sibling or something." He finished and placed his head on my shoulder.
"Why didn't you tell me? I would've been gotten you and Maya together." I said making him chuckle
"That's actually why I didn't do it." He said and I pouted
"Well I think you should tell Riley that you just lost feelings for her. She might not take it well but it is what it is. I'll be there with you if you want me to.." I told him and he nodded a bit
"I'd like that.. thank you Dee.. I love you Lil sis.." he said and I kissed his forehead
"I love you too big bro." I said and we just sat there in silence before he randomly said
"Why did Shawn call me the other night, gossiping about how you had sex with Lucas?" He asked smirking and I groaned as he started teasing me.

Cory dragged Mich and I to his classroom after school
"Cory what the he-" I cut myself off when I saw Riley and Maya in the classroom. Mich and I glared over at Cory who smiled sheepishly
"You guys need to work this out. You're starting high school next year and you can't go in without your friends. Please.. talk this out." Cory said before walking out while closing the door. I huffed before sitting down on Cory's desk.
"Deja.. please talk to us.. we miss you.." Maya said and I scoff
"You see? There you go again! There's another person here as well! And you guys keep leaving her out. But that's what you guys do best so why do I even bother you two?! You were the one who offer to let Mich join the group Riley! Or do you not remember that?? I don't know why Mich and I even waste our breath on you two because it will always be the Riley and Maya show." I said breathing heavily and Mich ran over
"Dej.. calm down okay..? Breathe with me. In and out." She said breathing in through her nose and out her mouth and I followed her breathing, calming down.
"I could care less if you guys ignore me but what you won't do is ignore the one person that stood by your guys from day 1. Deja was been through a lot in her life, way worse than you Maya.. I learned that the hard way.. but still she kept a smile on her face just so you wouldn't know when she's hurting..." Michelle said before looking at me
"Deja might act like she doesn't care but you guys really hurt her.. you guys were her first real friends ever in her life.. and for you two to just toss away like she's trash.. it's not right.." she told her and I playfully glared at her
"Ain't nobody told you to expose me like that. Like you mad loud for what?" I said making her laugh
"We're sorry.. and we'll be better. We promise you.. both of you." Riley said and Mich and I shared a look
"Fine but this is your last chance and I mean it this time." I said and they nodded before running over to hug us and we hugged them back. We heard the door open and looked to see the boys with Cory.
"Look who finally made up.." Cory said and I flipped him off, making him gasp. I noticed Liam was looking nervous and I sent a comforting smile his way and he took a deep breath
"Um Riley can we talk in private..?" He asked and she smiled, thinking it was something good when it wasn't.
"You can say it in front of everyone, it's fine." She said
"Riley maybe you should go with him in private.." I said trying to save this girl from embarrassing herself but she was too naïve
"No no no it's okay. You can say if Liam." She said and Liam looked at me making me shrugged. If she wants him to say it then it's her problem not his. He tried to be nice but she wouldn't listen. Cory's face showed that what Liam was about to say, wasn't going to be in Riley's favor. Lucas, Mich, and Farkle looked at me, silently asking if he was about to tell her the truth and I nodded, making them grimace.
"Riley you're an amazing person and great friend but I think that's all we can be.. is friends." He said making the smile on her face slowly fade. We all watched in silence and Maya looked at Liam shocked with a certain look in her eyes.. relief.? Happiness?..
"What?.." she said softly and I almost felt bad.. almost..
"I just think we would be better as friends.. I just don't like you in the way anymore.." he said and Cory just grimace at the look of Riley's face. Her first heartbreak..
"Oh.. Um okay." She said looking down
"I'm 1000% positive that there will be a guy who can treat you better than I can.. i just couldn't have the feeling like I was leading you on.." he said taking a quick glance at Maya and Riley, finally using her brain for once asked
"Do you like someone else?" All of us were waiting for what he was about to say. Is he gonna lie or tell the truth?
"... yes I do.." he said shocking us. I didn't think he was gonna tell her that.
"Oh.." as all she said before walking out. Liam just sighed
"Sorry.. Mr. Matthews, I didn't mean to hurt her." He said to Cory and he placed his hand on Liam's shoulder
"Liam never apologize for what you feel or how you feel. You don't have to like anyone. I know you would never intentionally hurt Riley. It's okay." He told him and Liam nodded. Maya was just staring at Liam before walking out, probably to go find Riley.
"Welp since we made up with them, that means we have to go over there right?" Mich asked
"Um no I think it's best if Maya took care of this." I told her and turned to Liam
"You did well, I told you everything would be okay. Riley will be fine." I said before looking over at Zay. I grabbed hold of his ear, making him cry out in pain.
"Isaiah Babineaux, I have a bone to pick with you. Let's go." I said dragging him away with our friends laughing behind us.
For some reason, I knew this wasn't the end of this chapter.. this secret of life.. there's just more to it. More secrets will be coming out and the way they'll be released out to world is what will shock you. Friendships and Relationships will be tested, fights will happen.. Am I ready for it? No, but do I have a choice? Of course not, it's just a part of life.
