Y/N p.o.v
A crowd surrounded Quirin as he came back from the field.
"What are we going to do, Quirin?
My home... these rocks are destroying everything in their path!"
One of the villagers pointed at the rocks that pierced one of his walls.
"Listen, everyone.
Our situation may seem terrible, but we mustn't lose hope."
Quirin announced.
He is a good leader.
"B-But what are they? Where are they coming from?"
Another person asked.
"Y/N and I've been studying these rocks, and I think we found a vulnerability in their alchemical makeup."
Varian scratched his chin.
"Son, Y/N, I told you- leave these rocks alone."
Quirin stepped over to us.
"Yea, I know-I know-we know, but something has to be done and I think we may be onto solutions!"
I answer.
"Something IS being done. In fact, I'm going to travel and see the king this afternoon about this very matter."
Quirin reassured us.
"O-oh, can I come with you?"
Varian asked.
Quirin sighed.
"Very well, then."
"Ooooooo yea! Varian and dad are going to see the kiiiiing!
Are you going too, Y/N?"
Varian asked me, still excited.
"Nah, I'll stay here."
I deny.
"Ok...
O-oh, I'll go pack ham sandwiches!"
Varian exclaimed.
"I'll help you!"
I start running after him.
Quirin chuckled, but then got back into his serious expression.
"In the meantime, stay away from those rocks."
"O-Ok, hehe, but...
That's getting harder to do by the minute..."
Varian said as both of us looked at the rock on the way back home.
I push Varian aside as I noticed that a rock next to him rose up a bit.

"I have made our good king aware of our problem, and he gave us his blessing!"
Quirin exclaimed and everyone cheered.
Varian was walking back to our house, a bit angry.
I followed him.
"Varian, wait! These are good news, aren't these?"
I ask in confusion.
"He lied, Y/N.
My dad lied to the king...
He lied to the villagers...
Is hope really worth it if you fill your life with lies?"
Varian said as we enter his lab.
We stepped to a rock that pierced the ground in the middle of the room.
Varian sighed as he touched it.
Ruddiger came from behind it, and surprisingly- Varian picked him up instead of shouing him away.
"Running from the problem won't fix it. These rocks MUST be stopped.
Ok, Y/N, Ruddiger.
What do we know about these rocks?"
"They are unbreakable, they're somehow connected to the princess, they are able to grow like a plant..."
I note.
"Even worse- they are growing in an extreme rate.
In a matter of months, they'll reach the castle."
Varian showed me a map.
"What do you suggest doing, Varian?"
I asked while petting Ruddiger.
Varian took a deep breath.
"Well, physical force has no effect on them, but they have yet to recon the awesome power of alchemy!"
Varian said as he activated a machine that created a liquid.
"Let's do this."
I say as Varian took a sample of the liquid and poured it onto the rock.
Suddenly, a flame appeared with a loud sound.
Varian gasped in surprise.
"What's that? Is everything alright there, kids?"
We heard Quirin from upstairs.
"Y-Yea, sorry, Varian, I dropped one of his books!"
I exclaimed.
Varian put a blanket over the flame, and there was a little explosion as it turned off.
"A-A really b-big book...!"
Varian exclaimed.
"This is going to be hard..."
I whisper to Varian as I fixed his hair, that was standing in the air from the explosion.

I look out of the window as Varian scribbled something on paper.
"It's snowing, V'... I think there's a big storm coming...
Do you have another idea for these rocks? I'm out..."
"I refuse to give up.
So our last formula didn't give us the reaction we hoped for.
So what...!
The important thing is that we've got a REACTION!"
Varian said as he got closer to the rock with another chemical.
"Son, I just want to say about this afternoon-"
Quirin said, surprising both of us.
Varian accidentally spilled his chemical on the rocks.
"Varian, Y/N! I told you two to stay away from those rocks!"
Quirin said, a bit angry.
I step over to Varian.
"Y-Yea, I can't- I mean, I know what you said, but-"
Varian started.
"Then there should be no misunderstanding! Listen-"
Quirin said as he led Varian away.
"NO! You listen to me, dad!
Our village is DYING!
You think that running away will fix the problem? Well it WON'T!
Those rocks are not going away!"
Varian cut him off.
"I know, Varian, but these rocks have more in them than you two can POSSIBLY imagine!"
"Than why won't you tell us?!"
Varian argued.
Quirin walked away.
"DAD! We deserve to know!"
"I'm sorry, son... you are not ready-"
Quirin said as he turned to us.
"Y/N! WATCH OUT!"
Quirin pushed me out of the way before the chemical on the rocks got bigger and trapped me.
I fell, tripping Varian on the way.
We look up, but Quirin got stuck in the ember that was created, the ember slowly encasing him.
"Oh! Oh no, dad!"
Varian ran up to him.
"QUIRIN! We'll get you out!"
I cry out as I look at the ember.
"No, kids, STAY BACK!"
Quirin said in panic as the ember grew closer to us.
"I... I'll go ask for help!"
Varian ran out.
"SON! Don't..."
Quirin sighed, but it was too late.
"Quirin, please! First my parents... now you... please don't leave me! Let me help you!"
Tears filled my eyes.
"Everything will be alright, Y/N.
I don't have much time...
Give me a pen and a piece of paper, I have something very important to say to Varian that only I can tell him..."
Quirin said, his voice filled with sadness.
"A-Alright..."
Still crying, I did as he asked.
The ember almost trapped Quirin, but he was writing everything quickly with his free hand.
"Please take care of Varian for me... and give him this note-"
Quirin told me, but the ember covered him completely before I managed to take the letter.
"QUIRIN! NOO! PLEASE!"
I collapsed.
"Please don't leave us... it can't end like this...
I'm so sorry! It's all my fault! It should have been me..."
I continue crying.
I look at the window.
Varian is all alone out there in this storm...

"Dad..."
I hear Varian as he entered the room.
"No... nonononono... NO! DAD!"
Varian cried.
Both of us wept for hours over Quirin.
I can't believe it happened...
Varian told me between tears what happened at the castle.
He said that Rapunzel didn't fulfill his promise and refused to help, even though she knew she was the ONLY one who could help.
"Dad... I will get to the bottom of it... I promise..."
Varian stood up.
The storm outside toned down.
"They will pay. They will pay for turning their backs on me."
Varian said coldly.
"V-Varian... Rapunzel was desperate... you can't let your anger cloud your judgement..."
I put my hand on his shoulder but he brashed me away.
"On which side are you, Y/N?"
Varian asked angrily.
"On your side, of course!
I just... don't want you to lash out in anger at everyone..."
"BUT THEY DESERVE THIS!"
Varian shouted.
I took a step back.
I've never seen him like that before.
"Please calm down, Varian... do the right thing..."
I plead.
"If you are going to stand in my way, I'll have to take care of you first."
Varian hissed.
