Chapter 9
I smelled strawberries and cream, I wasn’t completely awake. The smell was so sweet as it caressed at my nose and the taste on my tong as I took a deep breath in through my mouth.
I opened my eyes to an empty blackness and thought that I had finally woken up from ever so vivid dream. But there was a weight on the bed next to me and I realised Caspian was still there so I must still be dreaming. In that moment I hoped endlessly that this was real and not some silly dream.
I cuddled closer to his body getting comfy. That when he moved he rolled on top of me. He was so heavy like dead weight.
“Caspian move you’re hurting me.” I said breathless. He didn’t respond.
I managed to get my hands free but couldn’t push him off he was too heavy. My hands found his face, it was so smooth and cold, so cold. It was like putting my hand in a bucket of ice. The cold spread around my hand and down y arm, I pulled away. I pushed at his chest again but couldn’t get him to move.
It must have been past dawn he was dead to the world. He was dead on top of me. My brain couldn’t get it to all make sense. I started to scream, I couldn’t breathe. He wasn’t going to wake up of course not he’s dead. I was feeling claustrophobics.
“HELP, Get of me. I can’t breathe properly. Someone help me.” I screamed, even though I knew everyone would be asleep or dead to the world, but still I couldn’t help it.
The door burst open behind me and link came hurtling in to view. “Evie what’s wrong?”
“No, get him off me.” I gasped.
He came closer to the bed. In one movement he moved Caspian off of me and onto the other side of the bed. Now, why couldn’t I do that to start with. As soon as I was free I got up off of the bed and hugged myself. I felt dizzy and a bit unsteady on my feet. I sat back down on the end of the bed. I couldn’t remember the last time I had anything to eat. That’s what was wrong the shock mixed with lack of food.
“Are you ok Evie?” link asked me again.
“ I’m not feeling so good at the moment. I haven’t eaten in a while, I think I might need to.” He looked at me curiously thinking for a moment.
“Do you need blood, because you can use me if you like.” He said this with a smile like it happened all the time.
“What? No, no I mean food as in real food, like chips, toast and chocolate, oh I could really go for some chocolate. You got any real food around here.”
“Yeah sure” he laughed. “Sorry I thought it happened last night. That’s what everyone is saying.”
“No I’m not ready, not sure if I ever will be. I need some time to think.” I looked at him and realised for the first time that he was wearing nothing but a tiny pair of pants. They didn’t leave much to the imagination. “ One request first, could you put something else on please?”
“Oh yeah sure. I’ll go get dressed and come back to get you. Then I get you something to eat in the dinning room.”
“Ok” I said as he stalked off out the room again.
I fell back onto the bed and my hand touched Caspian’s bare foot. This time the cold didn’t run up my are. He was still so cold but something told me that he was going to wake up soon. Link didn’t take long getting dressed we was back in minuets. I sat up and smiled at him, glad he had more cloths on this time.
He took my arm and escorted me to the dinning room. We went down the grand spiral staircase and the sunset shined through the glassless windows. It felt so warm on my skin compared to the cold of Caspian’s. When the light hit my face I felt suddenly aware that I had not looked in a mirror today I bet I looked like a right mess with no makeup on. I hadn’t even brushed my hair. Though not a big worry at the moment I need food first primp later.
We walked into the big dinning room the tables where still set out the same way they had been for the banquet. There where a few people sat down in two’s and three’s talking. They where all eating real food and they where up in the daylight so they must all be human.
Link took me to the head of the table where I sat last time I was here. The man sat next to me turned and smiled.
“Bonjour Môn cherry” he was obviously French.
“ca va” I replied politely. He smiled and went back to his coffee.
Link played waiter for me which was kind of funny. He asked me what I wanted and he went and got it for me. I asked for arrange juice and some toast. He went off out the room to get it, leaving me alone in a room full of strangers. Good one link. He just lost points with me.
A few seats down a women stood up and started walking over to me. She looked at me as if she was appraising me. As if I was a new car and she was going to see how it handled. She was in here late 30’s early 40’s. She looked kind of normal. She was wearing a red pencil skirt and a tucked in white shirt. She had her black hair up in a bun she looked like a school teacher. She would have gotten away with it if she hadn’t slapped a whole stick of blood red lipstick on her thin lips. I think that was an attempt to hide the aging in her face. She also wore red shinny high heels about 4 or 5 inches high. School teachers don’t wear those unless they are from a porn movie.
She sat down in the seat next to with out asking if it was free. It was Caspian’s seat how rude. “ you have only the one bite now the rest have healed. He is not turning you yet then. He keeps you for himself, why?” she asked curiously I didn’t know what to say so I stayed silent. “what is so special about you?” she said cold this time.
I stayed quiet and still. What was I supposed to say to that “I don’t know sorry” and apologize for what.
“my name is Skyla. I am a blood donor. Now let me be the one to tell you a few rules around here. In this room we are all equal. We are all blood donors. We are shared between all the vampires’ weather it be for blood or sex. You will be shared around soon you know. He can’t keep you for himself for to much longer. If he doesn’t make a choice about you they soon will.”
“Caspian wouldn’t let them, he said no one else will touch me but him.” I said and you could hear that I was scarred.
“I don’t get it. For as long as I’ve been here and that has been a while. Caspian wouldn’t touch another person, he hated himself and what was going on around him. I mean he doesn’t even drink from the vein what fun is that. But now he indulges his fangs in you, not anyone of us that have served him in many ways for years. We kept his glass of blood full. Why would he now all of a sudden choose you. You’re not even pretty.”
“that’s enough Skyla, don’t frighten her to death.” Link had come back in with a tray of food. He put it down in front of me.
“yes sir, wouldn’t want to upset anyone.” And she got up and stalked back to her seat.
“sorry about Skyla. she one of the oldest blood donors here.” He said sitting down next to me.
“why did she listen to you like that I thought you where all equal.” I asked whilst spreading my toast.
“I am a human servant.” He said
“ok I’ll bite what’s a human servant?”
“we are the servants of the master. Only he can have one. It also means that I am off limits. I don’t have to be shared around as Skyla does. The only person I can’t say no to is Jason and that’s because he is my master.”
“they can’t share me around can they?” I asked. Please say no please say no I was thinking.
“just eat for now. You will be fine, Jason has forbidden anyone to touch you for now. Until Caspian makes up his mind. Jason likes you because you have made his son happy again. For too long he has watched his son mourn his human life and now you come along and there is passion in him. He has the will to live again to fight and I think he will be fighting for you till death come upon him. He has a reason to get up out of his coffin every night now.”
I smiled at the thought of Caspian. I reached for my toast and started eating. It tasted so good. I had just finished my toast when the main doors opened in front of me. I looked up and Caspian marched in wearing a robe loosely tied over a pair of black trousers and bare chest. He looked up the hall and focused on me the marched up the tables to me.
Everyone watched him as if they had never seen him like this before. After hearing Link talk maybe they hadn’t. He pulled me up out of my chair and into his arms. One hand holding my face up so that he could kiss me. The kiss was quick and hard but his lips where so soft. When he put me down Link got up out of his seat. He was looking at Caspian with astonishment.
“Caspian you are the first to wake this can not be right, Jason has not awoken yet.” Now he sounded scared. I personally didn’t get it, so what he woke up early, big deal.
“but Evie it is a big deal” Ahg he was reading my mind again. “no one wakes before the master, that is why everyone is staring.”
“oh, ok “
“we are going out tonight, to a club of mine. Go with Link and get ready. I need to speak with my father as soon as he wakes.
