Chapter 1
Sammy's POV
I woke up in the morning to the sun shining through my windows. I sat up in bed arching my back and stretching my arms out wide. Slowly, I made my way out of my bed and worked my way over to my windows to open them.
The spring breeze hit my face and I took in a deep breath, embracing ever second of it. I love spring, it's one of my favorite seasons. The sound of birds chirping rang in my ears making me smile. I took one last breath and shut my windows.
I slipped on my blue fuzzy slippers and pulled on my matching blue robe preparing myself to go down stairs. I walked out of my bedroom door and walked down the hallways to the stairs. Pictures of kids my mom has helped lined the wall, every single picture with a kid smiling and there story underneath. My mom always talked about how if she could adopt every kids she ever worked with, she would. Since she can't adopt all them she mentors them and finds them great family's to help turn there life's around. All the kids she helps love her, she gets multiple letters a week on how previous kids are doing and what's going on in there life. My mom is a fantastic person, and a great role model to me.
As I reached the stairs and began going down them I traced my fingers on the pattern carved into the wooden rail. My dad made this rail when I was younger and I have always been fascinated with it, I always walk slowly down the stairs to trace the pattern. I don't see my dad often. He's over seas serving out country, it's hard with him being soldier, he misses out on a lot, but he is gone for a good reason. So it's okay with me.
As I stepped off the last step I started walking to my kitchen, and was greeted by my very happy mom.
"Hi, Sweetie." She said smiling and flipping the omelet she was cooking on the stove. "Sit down at the table. I'll bring all this food over there in just a second" She continues waving me off.
"Okay!" I said smiling at her. She must be working with a new kid today that she likes; which is just about every kid she works with. I sat down at the table waiting patiently and reading a book I had on my phone that I had just bought.
"Here you go hun." My mom said setting a plate in front of me with a delicious looking omelet on it. The smell of it made my mouth water, I quickly sat down my phone and began eating.
"Thanks mom!" I said with my mouth full. I was scarfing down every bite as if someone was threatening to take it away.
"Slow down Sammy, jeez I know I'm an amazing cook but it's not going anywhere!" My mom said starring at me with wide eyes and laughing.
"I know mom, I just can't help myself." I replied also laughing.
" Alright Sammy, well finish up and then go shower we are going to Mandy's house. She just moved and is having a house warming party." My mom said.
" Okay, what should I wear?" I asked curiously. My moms eyes instantly lit up.
"Wear that new blue sundress I bought you and your blue wedges to match and straighten your hair." She said smiling. My mom loves picking what I wear, and I must say she has very good style. I nodded my head and headed up stairs to shower and get ready.
When I finished showering I grabbed my purse and phone and walked down stairs meeting my mom at the door.
"Wow sweetie you look gorgeous." My mom said starring at me.
"Thanks mom." I said smiling. "You look beautiful too." I replied while walking out the door and getting into her car. She was driving today, we take turns every since I got my license about a year ago.
We arrived at Mandy's taking in her gorgeous new house. It's honestly stunning we walked through taking in every piece of her new house an stepped in the backyard. So many people were in the backyard and her backyard was huge. I avoided almost everyone and their stuck up rich conversations about who owned more and went straight to the food table.
YES. I LOVE FOOD.
As I was devouring all the brownies and most of the cake I saw a girl fairly underdressed looking around suspiciously and making her way to the food table. What is she doing here? I've never seen her before.
After she made a full plate I walked over to her to ask questions.
"Hey." I said In the nicest voice possible. No response. "Hey" I repeated. Okay this time I know she heard me. She kept trying to avoid contact and eating her food very fast. Wow she looks hungry."It's okay you can talk to me?" I said to her, I was starting to get concerned. "Come here." I said grabbing her arm and walking out of the fence, into the alley behind Mandy's house.
"Now talk to me." I said looking at this girl desperately trying to read her expression. Nothing. She was completely silent, and this worried me. What was wrong with the poor girl? She looked about my age and she was gorgeous, even with the slightly ripped clothes she had on. She quickly turned her head looking away from me, she had a huge bruise on her cheek too. Poor girl, how didn't anyone realize her at Mandy's House warming party but me? Suddenly her expression changed, it was a look of pure fear her eyes widened as they looked behind me. I was so confused? Just as I was about to turn around something was put over my mouth.
Oh gosh this smelt horrible, I slowly began loosing my vision and getting dizzy I fell to the hard ground scraping my side, my head falling onto the grass. I saw the girl I was trying to help begin to run, but before I saw if the guy caught her or not my vision went completely blank and I fell into complete darkness.
Chapter two.
Sammy's POV
When I awoke I was in a straw like material in a quickly moving vehicle. I was tied together with two other girls, are backs all to each other. I am assuming that one of the girls,
is the silent girl I was attempting to help when I got captured.
I looked around taking in my surroundings. I was in a fairly dark van, in the very back. You could not see out the windows and in each of the four corners were birds. They were fairly beautiful birds, all except the very disturbing crow. There was a rainbow colored bird in my corner, a blue, orange, yellow, and red bird in the new girls corner, and a blue , dark red, yellow, and metallic gold colored bird with a very long tail in the silent girls corner. The crow didn't have a girl facing its corner. What's up with all these birds? Maybe there our captors pets? My thinking was disturbed when my odd looking captor spoke to me.
"Hello there Lorikeet." He spoke in a scary voice. I just stared blankly at the bird in my corner, it is truly beautiful."Lorikeet, answer me when I am talking to you!" He said in a very angry voice. I started shaking, is he talking to me?
"Umm" I said nervously. "are you speaking to me." I had to practically choke out.
"Yes, you will now respond to Lori, short for Lorikeet, also the name of that bird in your corner. Do you understand?" He said sternly.
"Bu-but my name is Sammy." I stuttered. This guy is really scary.
"No it is not!!" Said my captor very very angrily." I never want to here u say that name again, your name is now Lori and you will respond to it and like it!" He practically yelled. I was terrified of this guy. Why is he making me except the name of this bird? "And Lori" he said fiercful "You do not want me to call you by your full name, Or severe repercussions will be made." He finished smiling. I nodded looking away, tears fell silently down my face, why is this happening to me?
The van suddenly stopped out of nowhere I'm guessing we are finally arriving at our destination. Suddenly the doors to the van opened and it was night out. Jeez how long have we been driving?
"Is your nest comfortable, my little birds." My captor said smiling at all of us. Yeah the other girls are conscious now. " I said is is your neat comfortable." He repeated slightly irritated. What is he talking about? Our nest? This guy is crazy. I looked down at what I was sitting on and suddenly realized what he was asking. We are sitting in a circle of straw I believe ? I don't know but it looks like a nest.
"Uh, yes." I mumbled quietly to answer him before he got angry. The other girls weren't awake when he was talking to me earlier. Lucky them.
"I'm glad to hear that Lori." He replied smiling widly at me. " your getting on my good side little miss, keep it up." He finshes smiling at me, making me a little uncomfortable. I just nodded my head and looked away trying not to cry anymore. He practically dragged us out of the van an blindfolded us. Before he blindfolded us I got a quick sight of our surrounding we were in the middle of nowhere other then a very very huge house, which I assume we will be staying at.
As he was pulling us along I could feel the girl I didn't now sobbing and mumbling to herself, "why me, why me." I rubbed my hand on hers attempting to reassure her but it just made her cry more. As for the silent girl she still showed no emotion what is wrong with her?
When we got into the humongous house he unblindfolded us and untied our hands. "Welcome to your new cage my little birdies I hope you enjoy it here." He said smiling a scary toothy smile at us. "Now let my properly introduce myself, I am Crow and I am your new owner, you will listen and do everything I tell you to do. There will be rules with your stay here but we can go over them tommorow when we have breakfast." Crow said.
Crow motioned us up stairs. We all followed very slowly behind him, we were all terrified of what he would do if we didn't listen. Crow was muscular and I don't think all of us would even have a chance to escape him. He had messy black hair and piercing dark brown eyes that had a very cold look to him. He was terrifying.
"Okay Scarlett you will be staying in this room, crow motioned to a door." The silent girl moved slowly towards the door. "Oh is your name really Scarlett?" Crow asked happily. Scarlett nodded. "Well good!" Crow smiled to him self." Your new full name is Scarlett Macaw it's the name of that bird that was in your corner in the van, each of you will have the same bird as your name in the room you stay in, do not make me call you by your full names or repercussions will be made, I only do that when I'm angry. Now go into your room Scarlett and shower then get your pajamas on and go to bed." Crow finished while opening the door for Scarlett. Crow slowly walked to the room next to Scarlett's. "Golden you will be staying in this room" he said motioning the other girl to the room. "The same rules apply for you, your full name is Golden Pheasant" crow started but Golden cut him off.
" My name is not Golden!" The girl practically screamed at Crow. "And I will not abide by your rules, take me home now!" She demanded. Crows eyes turned even colder then before, anger stung in his eyes. Before Golden could see it coming Crow backhanded her so hard her body fell to the ground. As Goldens tiny body laid there blood trickled out of her nose. Crow went over to her and grabbed her by her blonde hair and picking her up with only hair in his hand. Golden yelped in pain starring at him with tears in her eyes.
" You will not disobey me again" Crow said angrily " Now get in your room shower and go to bed, you are not off to a good start Golden Pheasant. Go!" He said throwing he into her room and shutting the door. "Now you Lori follow me." Crow said while motioning me to a door across the room. "You got my favorite bird Lori" crow said smiling. "The birds your named after are so beautiful and so are you." Crow said lighting sliding his finger across my cheekbone and down then under my chin making me look up at him. "Get your pretty self in there shower and go to bed, ill see you in the morning. Goodnight beautiful." He said. I watched him closely as he walked off to the other girls rooms and telling them goodnight as he did me. Then he went down the many stairs to a lower level I'm guessing? This house was so tall we were about 8 stories up and we weren't even on the highest level.
As I walked into my room I was shocked. My room was painted dark blue and my bed was huge, the comforter was all rainbow colors. I walked to my drawers and looked in them. I had a lot of different color clothes and I actually liked some of them but they were really revealing. I mentally slapped myself for half way liking anything Crow gave to me. He is psychotic! I slowly walked from my dresser into my personal bathroom to shower.
While i was in the shower I cried and cried embracing the hot water. Why did this happen to me? I was never bad I have straight A's a great future ahead of me and a good family. Why me! I wonder what my moms doing right now, she's probably freaking out oh my poor mom! My dad doesn't even know, he's away right now so he would have no clue. I miss my mom and dad already.
I finished up in the shower and got out rapping a red towel around me. I looked in the mirror and tried not to cry but I was just so sad. How could this happen to me? I stared in the mirror a long time, I'm not trying to bragg but I was really am beautiful I didn't have to wear make up and after my hair dries it will be naturally wavy. I had a pretty fit body, brown hair with high lights and Carmel brown eyes. After I finished up in the bathroom I walked out to my dresser grabbing pajamas out of a drawer and getting dressed, i was wearing fuzzy blue pajamas, kind of like at home. I went over to my bed laying in the middle. I cried and cried until I fell asleep I was truly dreading the morning and what Crow has in store for us. I was hoping to wake up and for all of this to be just dream. For me to be in my house with my beautiful mom. I miss her so much. Before falling asleep I said a prayer that me and my mom say every night before going to sleep. " Angels east, Angels west, north and south do your best to guard us while we sleep and rest. I love you mom. I love you dad. I said to myself before falling into a deep sleep.
