SHAWN'S P.O.V:
She remained seated. She didn't move. She didn't blink. After seeing the group chat blow up with various opinions, I didn't realise that I may be a father to a dead unborn child. And that feeling immediately hit me in the chest. But I couldn't afford to be vulnerable. One of us had to be strong.
I touch her arm. She suddenly flinches and looks me deep in the eye as if she was searching for answers. Her lips tremble and I knew she was trying her best to suppress her emotions. But it was too dangerous to repress the emotions at the moment.
I softly say, "Let it all out. I am here."
And that was the cue.
She breaks down in my arms. Crying uncontrollably. I don't tell her that it's okay. Because it is not okay. It was never supposed to be like this. We just hold each other for a long time. Adriena is still crying. She is weeping like a child.
She refuses to eat dinner. We both go back to our bedroom and try to sleep. We don't try to communicate with each other. We bottle up our feelings and toss and turn.
THE NEXT DAY
I immediately book an appointment at the doctor's and wake Adriena up.
She sits motionless during breakfast. I try to make small talk but all in vain.
She says softly, "Nothing happy is supposed to last forever, is it?"
And now it was my time. I couldn't stop my myself. That horrible sensation was choking me and I let it all out. She comes up to me and wraps me up in a tight hug.
She rubs my back and says, " We have to talk to each other, or else we are gonna get distant. I can't afford to lose you. If I lose you, I will lose myself."
We get up. And leave the house knowing that it will be a hell of a ride but we'll be in this together.
