RIVYN’S P.O.V.

“School’s going to start in a few minutes, gingerbread!  You better get going!” cheered Aunt Darby as she watched me hop down the stairs with one sock and the other in my hand.

“What?!  Are you serious?”  I complained, grabbing a juice box from the fridge.  “Well, my alarm clock didn’t go off.  Someone reset it!”

“And who would do such a thing, chestnut?” asked Aunt Darby, concerned.

“I don’t know but right now I don’t care.  Have you seen my keys?” I asked, searching around my bag as I slipped on the other sock.

She set down her usual coffee mug and licked her lips.  “No, honey but I think the boys are waiting for you in the garage.  They’re giving you a drive!” she squealed with excitement.

I shook my head.  “Tell them I’ll pass.  I can take my own car.”

Aunt Darby smirked, her attitude slightly pissing me off.  “Uh, no you’re not.  I need your car for my waitressing job today.  My baby is the car shop.  Now you go run along with the boys, I got to go to the gym.”  She kissed me on the head and took an apple with her as she danced up the stairs to get her exercise clothes on.

I groaned and stomped one foot, cursing in Spanish.

“You coming, Rivyn?” Noah called as he entered through the garage door.

I cleared my throat and smoothed down my hair.  “Sure, I’m coming,” I smiled.  I held the juice box in one hand and with the other I slung my hobo bag over my shoulder.  I followed him out of the house and bit my lip as his car was waiting nicely for us by the driveway.

Brian and Chris were nowhere to be found and that was perfectly fine by me.

“Thanks for waiting,” I said as he opened the door for me.

“Anytime,” he winked, climbing into his seat.

Waiting in silence, he drove us to school.  I couldn’t help but peek in the mirror to see his eyes staring at mine.  I blushed and turned away.  How embarrassing to catch him staring.

Finally we parked closely to the doors as kids began to head inside.  It was starting to get cold during fall and with Halloween around the corner, it was getting chilly in the daytime.

I got out and cracked open my juice box.  I didn’t want to get his car dirty so I waited until I was out.  “Thanks again,” I said.

He wrapped his arm around my waist, “Like, I said, anytime.”

Feeling somewhat comforting with his arm around me, I let his hand stay as we both walked from his car.  Just as we crossed the street, I couldn’t help but notice Brian flirting with a brunette girl who had a long satin scarf around her neck.  How surprising.

“My brother needs to learn how to grow up,” mumbled Noah.  Unsure if it was towards me or to himself, I kept quiet as we made our way aboard the stairs.

Just as we were half way, I noticed a quick flick of movement as we slowly passed Brian and his victim.  Curiosity getting the best of me, I turned to witness Brian look away from the brunette and at me.  Too far of a distance, I couldn’t tell his reaction but whatever it was, it got him to take a step from his girl.

“Noah!  Can I talk to you for a second?” he shouted.

Noah stopped and didn’t bother to look back at his brother.  “I got to get to class, I’ll see you at home.”

I turned my head back to Brian who smirked and caught up to us, the brunette girl tagging along.

“Noah, come here,” said Brian.  I swear his right eye flinched for a second.

He stopped walking and kept his arm around me.  I forgot all about how close we were until now.  “What?” he snapped.

Brian let go of the red scarf girl and couldn’t help but smile at me.  “Hey, good morning Sleeping Beauty,” he said kissing my hand.

I smirked disgusted and tore my hand away.  “Don’t touch me, beast,” I spat, narrowing my eyes.

“I guess our shower together didn’t refresh you as I thought it would, love,” he joked, nudging me in the arm.

The brunette girl gasped and Noah turned to me with a blank expression.

My cheeks burned with frustration as I began to slowly crush the juice box in my hand.  The liquid squirted out of the straw and onto the brunette’s scarf.  She squealed and shot me an evil glare.

“I did not shower with you and I am not your love!” I said, ready to kill him.

“You showered with him?” asked Noah with a shocked look written on his face.

“No, not the way you think.  He pulled me in and sprayed me with cold water!  It was nothing like you think it is!” I stammered.

Brian chuckled and winked at me.  “I guess the Beauty woke up on the wrong side of the morning.  Did your alarm clock not go off?”

“Well, actually it didn’t.  How would you---” I eyed him carefully as a grin started to form on his face.  “You reset my alarm clock, didn’t you?  You wanted me to be late!”

He gave me a weird look.  “I would never do such a thing!”  I could tell behind his face was a smile.  That liar!

“You’re such a lying Beast!  Ugh, I hate you!” I said, poking his chest with anger.  It’s not like I could do anything to harm him. I could say far more worse but I promised Aunt Darby yesterday that I wouldn’t hurt the Daniel boys.

Brian chuckled.  “Love, as you know in fairytales, the Beast gets the Beauty in the end.”  He smiled and turned to Noah, “And the once the Beauty chooses the Beast, the prince dies, does he not, brother?”

I was about to interrupt until I couldn’t help but notice the look of hatred on Noah’s face.  Was he....no, he couldn’t.  Not over me.

“You know what, I’m just going to go.  I’ll see you guys in class,” I said, pulling away from Noah.  Just as I saw the look of joy on Brian’s face, I had to do something.  Just to push him over the edge.

I came back to Noah, grabbed him by the neck and kissed him.  Not full on make-out but short and sweet.  No tongue action, might I add.  I could tell he was surprised when I released my lips.  At the corner of my eye, I could see Brian curling into a frown as his eyebrows narrowed.

Ha!  Suck it in Brian, suck it in.

((Brian: 2  Rivyn: 2...it’s getting gooood))

“See you later?” I whispered to Noah.  A huge smile formed on his face.

“Yeah, catch you later,” he murmured.  I stuffed my hands in my pockets and walked away, biting my lip from grinning so much.  The funny thing was that I wasn’t smiling because of the kiss, I was smiling because of Brian’s reaction.  And maybe a little bit about that kiss.....Ah, sweet victory.

Just as I reached the top of the steps, about a big distance from the boys, I turned back, witnessing an argument break out.

Brian was yelling at Noah now and the brunette girl was watching with intensity.  Noah yelled back and pointed to me.  Brian yelled something else, pushing Noah’s arm away.

Oh, god.  What did I start?

Noah shouted something making Brian clench his knuckles.  Next thing I knew, Brian punched Noah in the face, making me scream.

I ran down the steps, witnessing the two continue to fight.  Brian caught Noah in a head lock and began to knee him the back.  Just as I reached them, Noah was grabbing Brian by the collar, punching him several times in the face.  The brunette girl screamed and backed away far as possible.  Everyone began to take notice and a small crowd formed.

“Guys!   STOP!” I shouted, trying to break them apart.  Why must they be so strong?  “Guys!  Stop it right now!  Brian!  Noah!  STOP!”  It was like I was invisible.  Taking a deep breath in, I stepped in between only to get a punch in the face from the right side.  Everyone gasped.

I stared at the ground, shaken.  A little dizzy, I touched my jaw.  Jesus, that hurt.  Slowly shifting my head, I swore to see Noah give me a shocked expression.

“Rivyn, I’m so sorry!  I didn’t mean to hit you!” he spluttered, trying to apologize.  My eyes lingered towards the little trail of blood that traced down his neck.  Oh my god......

Clearing my throat, I nodded my head and suddenly felt a pair of arms around my waist.  The floor being lifted off my feet, I slowly was being drifted away from Noah.  “Hey!”  I spun around and pushed my helper.  “What the hell was that for?”

Chris sighed and let go of me.  “So I could get you out of that,” he said.  I glanced back at the boys just as Brian threw his fist, right at Noah.

“Oh my god!  Chris, do something!” I shouted, pointing at the fight like it wasn’t obvious enough.

He held up his hands and gave me an apologetic gaze.  “Sorry but it’s pretty hard to brake those two apart.  I’d probably end up looking like you if I interfered.”  I touched my cheek, feeling the bruise come on.

I tugged at his arm.  “Please, Chris.  You got to stop them, they’re going kill each other!” I pleaded as Brian hit the floor.  Noah was pinning him to the ground, continuously punching his face.

Chris sighed and rolled up his sleeves.  I smiled weakly and watched him enter the fight.  It took a little longer than I hoped for but Chris finally got Noah off of Brian and was now trying to calm him down.

My instinct kicking in, I ran to Brian who was still on the ground, probably unconscious.  I knelt down beside him and caught my breath.  “Oh my god, Brian.  Are you alright?” I asked, cupping his cheek into my hand.    His lip was bleeding and the bruise on his eyelid began to swell up again.

He flicked open his eyes and nodded.  “I think so,” Brian barely breathed.

“The wind must have knocked you out,” I mumbled as I could feel his pulse starting to slowly get back to normal.  “You went down hard.”

Brian chuckled.  “What’s not to like about brother love?”

I scowled and couldn’t help but smile.  He slowly got up on his back, sitting down beside me.  “Why’d you hit him?” I demanded.

He winced as he clutched his ribs.  “Feisty, huh?  Straight to the point?”

I rolled my eyes and sighed.  He flicked his golden hair, making me bit my lip.  I hate it when he does that.  Yet, his eyes gazed into mine, something clicked right there.  Something really small, tiny even.  God, I couldn’t even tell if it was real but it was something.  There was one reason why I felt this.  And I didn’t like it.

“Brian, I’m going to ask you again.”  Bracing myself for the answer, I hid a strand of hair behind my ear.  “Why did you.......”  Breathing in, I grimaced, narrowing my eyebrows.  “What’s the real reason, Brian?”  I let go of his face and tilted my head.  “Why did you really fight back after Noah punched me?  It could have all ended and you wouldn’t have been beaten up as bad.”  I trailed my eyes along his bruised up cheeks.  The crowd started to vanish.  School must start in a minute.  The show was over, curtains were closed and it was just me and him on the steps.

Brian licked his lips and gazed at me.  “Because, well, I......”  I gave him a wave of the hand to continue but he just sighed and closed his eyes.  “Because he hit you,” he breathed.

Usually I would brighten up and kiss my saviour for taking a stand for me but honestly, I wasn’t that kind of girl.

I took his face into my hands and turned him towards me.  His lips still looked kissable at this inch of distance and his eyes were still gorgeously blue.

“Why do you have to be so hot?” I breathed, searching his reaction.

He gave me a dazed look.  “What?”

I let my fist rip, knocking him out for a while.  How come all the handsome ones have to be stupid and selfless for the female?  I needed to teach him he wasn’t my knight in shining armour.  No one was.

            --- --------- -------------- ---------------- --------------------- ------------------ ---------

I slipped into English class, late by a long shot.  After leaving Brian, I quickly explained to the nurse a huge story that someone was unconscious by the stairs.  It took a lot of convincing but I managed to see her run out of the office with her first aid kit without talking about the fight.  No one needed to know about that.

I smiled and headed towards my seat beside Chris.  “How’s Noah?” I asked him as I slung my bag around my chair.

Chris shrugged.  “He’s fine.”  He touched my cheek, making me scowl.  “Nice bruise by the way.”

Ignoring his remark, I began to bring out my books and then my iPod.  Blasting the music as usual, I was ready to hear the stress relieving beats until I felt a tug at the back of my mind.  I didn’t feel right.  I wasn’t feeling the calm carefree vibe that I loved.  Something wasn’t right.

Mr. Gillian mouthed several things to me, probably telling me to slip off the headphones.  Surprising myself, I took them off.  “Yes?” I questioned.

He placed the papers down on his desk and walked toward me.  “It seems that your partner isn’t here, Miss DeLor,” he said.  I fought back the smile on my lips as I respectively nodded.  It was all going well, Brian’s still knocked out and I won’t have to see him...for now.  “So I guess you’re just going to---”

“Sorry I’m late, Mr. Gillian.”  The door swung open and in came Brian, looking....oh, you know how he’s always looking.  “But I did manage to get you something,” he threw Mr. Gillian an apple.  The teacher stumbled as he caught it.  However, I didn’t smirk or snort.  I couldn’t help but naturally smile.  Not a lot of guys give their teacher an apple, too bad I never noticed that in the beginning.  “I woke up dazed on the stairs with a terrible headache.”  True.  “And I saw the nurse running towards me with a kit.”  Also true.  “Then she helped me up with the bruises and scratches and next thing you know, she gave me an apple for being a brave boy.”  Not bad, Brian.  “So here I am, being exactly.....” he glanced at the time, “10 o’clock.”

“As always, you’re on your.....usual schedule I might add,” Mr. Gillian joked.  “And it seems that you’re just in time to be with your partner, Mr. Daniels.”

Brian looked at me with his familiar charming smile.  He flicked his hair, his black eye still looking even sexier and a handsome bruise by his jaw.  “Don’t worry, Mr. Gillian.  I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
