I roll over in my bed and check the time. The clock shows five forty-five. Only been five minutes since I last checked. I roll over and attempt to fall back asleep. Which is near impossible considering it's the first day of school. Then, suddenly, my mom comes into my room. "Sweetie, are you awake?"

"No, Mom. It's the first day of school and I haven't been up since three trying to fall back asleep."

"Well you can come down and start eating breakfast. You'll need a few extra minutes anyways."

With that, I bolt out of my room, trying to be careful on the stairs. When I get into the kitchen, I automatically go for the fridge to whip out the leftover pancakes my dad made last night. He always makes them before the first day of school, knowing I love them. I slide two cakes onto my plate and set it in the microwave. While I wait, I pour myself a glass of milk.

"Whoah there. Slow down Kaylee. You're going to start bouncing off the walls before you know it!" my mom says, smiling into the room.

"Sorry, Mom. I'm just so excited!" With that, I get my pancakes from the microwave and sit down. While I scarf down my breakfast, I mentally review my outfit, making sure its perfect. With my last bite, I decide it is and get up to go upstairs.

"Remember to brush your teeth!" my mom shouts after me.

After quickly brushing my teeth, I get to my room. I pick up my shirt and lay it on top of my shorts. Yup. Still looks great. I change into my outfit, and brush my hair. Looking in my full lengthen mirror, I straighten my shirt and run my finger through my hair.
When I get downstairs, I check the time. Six thirty-five. Ugh. Can time move any slower? Waiting patiently is not my best skill.

"Honey, get your backpack and come outside. It's time for pictures!" I laugh at her enthusiasm as go out the door.
"My, my. Look at my seventh grader! Now remind me again why your shirt looks like a jersey?"

"Because it's cool looking, Mom. Just take the pictures!" I pose for the pictures, trying to suppress my laughter.

"Is it time to go to the bus stop yet?" My mom shakes her head, and I groan. "I'm just kidding!" she says. I take off down the street. "Have a good day!"
