𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 down the dusty path of your town, the fall air filling your lungs as you happily sighed. You carried a brown paper bag of flour for your mother who needed more for pumpkin muffins she was making. The feeling of fall was your favorite, the atmosphere seemed to be more relaxed in Marley though something seemed to always be going on here.

You chewed on your lip as you kept walking to your family famous bakery- the most popular one in all of Marley. Though you were Eldians this made you very respected by Marleyans, they seemed to not get enough of your family's recipes, but this did make you very happy for the only reason that you wouldn't get harassed like other Eldians.

Though Eldians used to be the former oppressors to Marleyans you never understood why they wanted to keep the cycle of oppression going. It seemed pointless to you.

Maybe even stupid.

You reached the dull pink shop with the wooden sign "Yum Goods" on the front of the building hanging by a metal rod. You happily walked into your family's shop as the small bell on the top of the door chimed. The familiar sound seemed to ring through your body.

Your mother rushed in from the back of the shop; white powder covered her apron and face, she must have thought you were a customer.

"Y/n, I told you to tell me when it's you! Scared me half to death thought I'd have to greet a customer like this." Your mother laughed, her smile could easily light up a room. "Sorry mother, I guess the bell distracted me." You smiled back as you walked to behind the counter. You handed her the brown paper bag, your mom quickly opened it as she saw two bags of flour placed in the bag.

"Oh y/n you're my lifesaver!" She gleamed as she rushed to the back where the kitchen was held. "You just said I scared you half to death, you have to make your mind up if I'll be the death of you or your savior." You chuckled, "Very funny young lady, now stay up front I need you to tend customers while I make these damn muffins." "Language, no swearing in the shop."

That was a rule your mother made almost three years ago when you started swearing though you didn't do it much- hardly ever she still made the rule because she didn't want the shop to think they would have some wild teenager running it one day.

"Using my own rules against me." You mother spoke, you could hear the clinging of metal bowls hitting each other as she moved stuff around in the back; most likely to make more room from her limited space.

You happily stood behind the case of baked goods, from muffins, cupcakes, eclairs, everything you could imagine. The sun hit the baked goods making the glazed ones gleam in the sunlight. This was something you enjoyed looking at, though it seemed boring you grew up in this small bakery so you couldn't help but love the tiniest details about the place.

From the one squeaky board on the floor to the left, the smell of sugary goods hitting you as you walked into the bakery, the light pink walls, everything about the bakery yelled home to you.

You peaked your head around the corner of the small doorway into the back, seeing your mom mixing things together as she looked into your family's recipe book. You smirked as you poked your head back to the case of baked goods. You looked at the glazed donuts and stuck your hand in the case grabbing one. You smelled the donut and it seemed to smell just like you would imagine heaven smelling like.

You went to take a large bite of your donut but heard the chime of the bell ring from the front door of the bakery. You quickly hid your hands behind your back hiding the donut. Your luck it was only your younger brother, who was also most likely coming in from playing to grab a snack for him and his friends. He walked to the case of baked goods and made eye contact with you.

You knew the look he was giving you, he was asking for goods. All you did was bring your pointer finger up to your mouth telling him to be quiet as you nodded. Your brother pointed to the blueberry muffins and held three fingers up. You quickly nodded and grabbed one, then handed it to him and you did the same with the other two. Your brother gave you a thumbs up as he began to turn to the door.

"What are you two doing?" You and your brother whipped your head to the doorway of the back to see your mom leaning against the doorway, her apron was off exposing her blue dress. "Oh hey mom." You laughed nervously. "Are you two stealing the goods?" She teased at the both of you. "What? Us? Never, that's not me and y/n." Your brother said with a grin. Your mom sighed, "Whatever you two, just at least tell me next time." You and your brother both quickly nodded.

Your brother seemed to fly out the door with his muffins as you took a bite of your donut, melting to the amazing flavor of it. Your mom surely knew how to make a donut.

Your mom walked behind the case with you and used a rag from one of the pockets in her dress to wipe off the cash register counter. Your mom hated things feeling dirty and this wasn't just at the bakery this was at your guys house too. It seemed to be spotless, not a speck of dust in sight.

"Have you heard?" Your mother said flatly, her tone falling serious as you could tell. "About?" You asked, swallowing the bite of your donut. "Those devils are coming here." Your eyebrows raised, Paradise people were coming here? "Paradise? Why?" You asked, "Some government business. I refuse to serve those damn devils in my store. To hell with them." You furrowed your brows at your mom's words.

"That's not what father would want." You spoke lightly, Your mom turned her head to you. "Don't go there y/n." she scolded, "You know I'm right, father wanted peace. No matter what past anyone had." "I have no sympathy for those devils y/n." "Well I do, they are people just like us. I'm not treating them like how we used to treat Marleyans or how Marleyans treat us." Your mother shook her head, "Here you go again about world peace."

Your mother threw her cloth into the pocket of her dress as she walked to the back. "Come back here and help me when you get that silly idea of treating them fairly out of your head." "Looks like I won't be helping tonight mother." You said bluntly.

Though you were a very kind and caring girl you valued your beliefs more than anything, you were willing to stick up for them even if that meant fighting with your mom over this. Or anyone in fact. You thought that everyone deserved to be treated equally, in this big world you knew horrible things were happening that little 'ol you couldn't change. But you hoped one day that maybe- just maybe you could help out in some way.

You sighed as you walked to the back to help your mother. Though you didn't get your beliefs out of your head you cared enough to help your mother with baking.

"Get up!" You heard being shouted into your ear making you practically shoot up like a bullet. You turned your head to see your brother with the dumb grin on his face he always has on.

"You brat." You chuckled, messing his hair up. "Hey! Hey! I just did it stop it y/n!" He laughed, "Maybe don't yell in my ear while I'm getting my beauty rest!" You smiled, "You know my friend told me people say you're the most attractive girl on the island because they pity you. Plus I think you look more like a bear!" He stuck his tongue out at you as he laughed. "Put a can of worms in your mouth!" You laughed as you shoved him gently; this made your brother laugh.

You cared for your little brother a lot, he sadly never got to meet your father so you tried your best to act like how your father did to you before he passed. You knew you would never be a father figure to him but you hoped you'd at least be the best sister he could ever ask for.

"Mom's making pancakes, just plain." He spoke with a smile on his face. "Geez what did you do? She usually makes three types." Your brother looked towards your cracked door then back to you. He pulled you down a bit more to his level to whisper in your ear.

"She's mad about Paradise." He spoke gently. You sighed, "Of course she is." He nodded his head gently. Your brother didn't like the idea of people being separated or in his definition bullied. "Let's go down there before she starts calling us devils." Your brother couldn't help but snicker at your words as you rose from your bed. Your white nightgown flowing over you as you stand up.

You shoved your brother forward gently, he moved to your door with you. Walking out of your door and shutting it behind you. Your small hallway leading to the dining area. You, your mother, and brother lived above the bakery your mom thought it would make it easier to run it which it did. As you walked into the dining area you were met with a small stack of pancakes on the center of the table along with plates, forks, glasses, syrup, and bacon. You took your normal seat and so did your brother.

Your mom silently sat down as she placed a gallon of orange juice on the table, you could feel her energy; she seemed like she was mad.

You reached out and put a pancake on your brother's plate, along with some pieces of bacon as he poured himself a glass of orange juice; his personal favorite drink. Which you thought was odd. Your mom didn't put food on her plate, she only kept her stern look as her chin rested on her palm. You side eyed your mom as you put food on your plate as your brother poured you a glass of orange juice.

"You ok mom?" You asked, she snapped out of her thoughts as she gave you a weak smile. "Yes. Eat up." Was all she said. You did as she said and began eating, you knew she would make a scene if members of Paradise came into the bakery. You knew she hated them but for what you didn't know.

But all you knew is that you would welcome the members of paradise with open arms.
