"Aella, Miguel is here" my mom yelled, I smoothed my skirt, grabbed my bag, and walked out of the room. Today was my first day at West Valley High School, I was a little nervous but it wasn't too bad
"Hey Miguel," I said cheerfully walking out the door
"Are you excited for school?" he asked and I shrugged wrinkling my nose
"Not really but at least I'll have someone to sit with at lunch" I laughed and he gave me a small smile, he was nervous, I could tell. We got in the car and I started driving, I turned on Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo, it's currently one of my favorite songs
"Don't be nervous Miguel" I told him "you'll make more friends"
"Yeah but those guys from the Mini-Mart are probably going to our school and they are going to make my life hell"
"Don't worry about them, I'm sure they won't do anything while at school, they would get into trouble what's the worst that can happen at school? I mean there will be teachers all around"
"I guess you are right" he sighed looking around thoughtfully
"Yes thank you, Miguel" I playfully elbowed him in the ribs. We drove in silence for the rest of the time, I was nervous because girls can be really cruel and I would like to avoid lots of drama. Miguel and I stopped in front of the doors to the school, took deep breaths, and walked in.
There was no one there "where is everyone?" Miguel asked we looked around in panic. Did we come on a wrong day?
"Hold on" I pulled out my phone and checked the schedule, it was the first day of school but it started earlier
"Oh my god," I said in alarm "we're twenty minutes late on our first day, god we are so screwed"
Miguel started running "I'll see you after class, run" I nodded and took off running to math how could I be late, this is a bad way to start off the year what would my teacher think of me? I found my class and quietly walked in hoping that by some miracle the teacher wouldn't notice
"Miss Stone how nice of you to join us," the teacher at the front said "please take a seat next to Eli" was I supposed to know who that is I mean didn't she know that it was y first day
"Umm who?" I asked "I'm new this year" I fidgeted with my hands a bit, now I was nervous because all the attention was on me
The teacher took off his glasses "oh that's right well Eli is right here" he pointed to a desk in the middle row, I quickly threw my stuff down and took a seat. I looked up at Eli and gave him a small smile causing him to turn away, was I that hideous?
We were doing something in math that I didn't understand at all and I zone out most of the time. I have two more periods before lunch which went smoothly I had biology with Miguel right before lunch which was good, we could find a place to sit together
"Did you meet anyone?" Miguel asked hopefully
"Uh no, not really what about you"
"Nope," he said popping the P
I went back to my book, we were reading about fetal pigs because we were going to dissect one or something. The bell rang and I packed up my things while Miguel waited for me.
We walked down to the cafeteria and got lunch which consisted of a hamburger, pudding, banana, and chocolate milk. "Alright time to find a group to sit with," I told him and we both looked around dreadingly
"uh split up" he murmured "and then we can wave if we find a place to sit I nodded and went left he went right, I had looked for less than a minute before Miguel waved me over. I walked over and Miguel was seated next to two other boys. One of them looked up at me when I approached and I realized it was Eli, he looked away from me again, did I have a huge ass pimple or something
"Hey, Aella," Miguel said as though he hadn't seen me for a while "this is Demitri and Eli" I smiled at all of them and took a seat next to Demetri who looked pretty nice
"Eli is a man of few words," Demitri said and Eli gave him the cutest smile I had ever seen Miguel looked up and saw two girls walk past our table their perfume was so strong
"Dude don't torture yourself, those are the rich girls" Demitri informed him
"So do you ever talk to them," Miguel asked and Demitri scoffed
"Oh yeah all the time, we hang out after school make out, give each other hand jobs, Eli here is the homecoming king, gets laid more than anyone isn't that right Eli" and Demitri received another adorable smile "talk to them, you realize what table you're sitting at, right? you've basically signed away all hopes of losing your virginity before college" I laughed "so why are you sitting with us," Demitri asked me resting his chin on his hand
"why not" I smirked and he gave me a small smile, I noticed Eli looking very scared "are you ok," I asked gently
"Shit, Yasmin's looking at us" he groaned and I turned around to see the blonde girl looking at Eli with a disgusted face "probably just making fun of me" he mumbled lowering his eyes
"I don't think she's making fun of you, just because they're hot doesn't mean they're mean" Miguel commented
Demitri rolled his eyes and went back to eating, Eli looked up at me and that's when I realized for the first time how blue his eyes were. I couldn't look away and that turned out to be a bad thing.
"Well you don't have to stare at it" Demitri snapped and I was brought back into the real world
"Look at what?" I asked a bit startled
"His lip, it's rude to stare," he told me and I scoffed
"I wasn't staring at his lip Demitri, I was staring at his eyes" shit why the hell would I say that, god I'm such an embarrassment.
"Oh" Demitri mumbled and looked at the ground "I don't care if Yasmin is the meanest girl at school, I'd kill all three of you just to get her to spit in my face"
I chuckled and Miguel frowned "well if you never make a move you're never going to have a shot with her" Miguel told him
"True but I'll also never suffer humiliating rejection, I'm at peace with my depression the last thing I need to be is suicidal"
Miguel stood up and we all looked at him in horror "what are you doing" Demitri asked
"Striking first" he replied, I looked over at Eli who shrugged making me giggle, we watched as Miguel walked over and a girl with brown hair gave him a small smile, but then the boy whose name is apparently Kyler sat down before Miguel could.
Miguel walked back over to us in defeat "so how'd it go" Demitri asked and I burst out laughing, Miguel gave me a nasty look and I shut up. "So, Aella do you want to go to in-n-out after school?" Demitri said
"Oh, I'm sorry I really wish I could but I need to look for a job after school, "I told him and it was true I did need to find a job.
"Ok," he said disappointedly
"We can go tomorrow," I told him and he smiled
"That's good," he said happily
Eli's Pov
I don't know why but when Demitri asked Aella if she wanted to go get food with him it made me mad. It's not like I liked Aella so why was I so upset. I felt better when she said she had to work but then she said she could go the next day and my heart dropped.
"Eli, Miguel you guys wanna join tomorrow?" she asked and I almost cried of happiness
"I can" I mumbled and she grinned
"yesssssss" she clapped like a little girl, she said she was staring at my eyes earlier but why would she do that.
"I can't I have some stuff to do sorry guys," Miguel said and Aella smiled at him sadly but accepted it. I wish Demitri wasn't coming but it's fine.
Aella's Pov
After school I was walking by a skateboard park or whatever you call those things, I had no idea how to look for a job so I just walked around looking for signs that said help wanted or something. I was looking at the people skateboarding when someone bumped into me and fell on the ground.
"Fuck" the boy yelled clutching his knee
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," I said looking at him, he was very cute the boy had brown hair and green eyes.
"No it's my fault I wasn't watching where I was going," he said standing up
"Are you ok?" I asked and he smiled
"yeah I'm fine, I'm Robbie" he held his hand out and I shook it
"I'm Aella," I told him
"So what are you doing Aella?"
"I'm looking for a job but I'm not having much luck, I actually have no idea how to find a job because I've never had one before" I admitted making him chuckle
"Well I saw an ad that LaRusso Auto had some openings I'm sure they have more spots open," he told me
"that would be great thanks Robbie" he nodded and took out his phone
"We should swap numbers so I can text you about the interview," he said and I took my phone out too. After we gave each other our numbers we put our phones away.
"Well I have to go but it was nice meeting you Aella"
"You too Robbie" I waved and he walked away, he was a very nice boy.
